Guard player here, same goes for our current Index Detachment. Only affects Artillery most of the time and doesn’t effect Overwatch at all. Our faction rule is also missing from one of our best units that is supposed to have it.

@@thingwithteeth the key word is situational. Way way to situational. It was been almost zero use for me with the good benefit not kicking in until 3 when the game is mostly decided. Battleshock is joke and having all your faction bonuses tied to a test your opponent has to fail or can spend a CP to negate is a bad joke.

I consider "easy" to be based off how many things u have to remember. Meaning my imperial knights list with only 2 different datasheets is about as easy as it can possibly get

I agree with your point complexity is based on one's personal criteria. If you have easy datasheets, but have to be very careful with movement will change complexity of an army to me versus how many combos the army needs or has

@@jaysonguerin8036it's clearly all about cognitive load. All kinds of things can add to that, but the least number of datasheets possible is imo the most weighted variable to use if you're trying to lower the load And I find that regardless of your skill level, being able to focus more on macro play instead of micro play results in a much higher winrate

12:47 the best thing I can say about imperial guard is there an experience army. No matter how good you think you are you’re probably going to get question first handful of games. But after you figure out what the things that you like about the faction do and figure out how to use them well you are going to run over an opponent.

Dont forget the Tau's army rule only lets half your army befefit from it and discourages spliting fire. So getting rwice as many units in possion and hyper fixation on units being good into one type of unit really add to rhe complex

Thousand Sons is the poster child of a “Johnny” playstyle. I have to do all the whacky things to do a cool thing, but it’s a lot trickier to pull off rather than what other armies do to pull off their tricks. And I love them as my main army, but my brain is cooked after two games. Someday I may start a chaos knight army. I do have my space marines but it’s so hard for me to be excited for them when there’s so many space marine players in my playgroup and I’m not as fond of the Imperium on Imperium game state for casual matches

Been diving into the hobby for a couple months now and GSC is my first army, loved the look. The first three models took about a month to get painted because of the learning curve. But after that I've definitely found it far easier and can finish a model in a few days of work now. Not bad for a few months haha.

The downside of the Necrons is that they struggle against tanks. They've got the big doomsday gun, the little doomsday guns, and the C'tan.

Are we defining by difficulty to learn, or difficulty to reward player skill. Bc yes, Custodes have limited options for top level players to show off the wrinkles in their brain, but a new player will have a much easier time starting with Custodes than most other factions. They're forgiving unless you tec into them and their playstyle is just standard play the game stiff every army needs to do. Plus, they're simpler in melee than most other melee armies too bc you don't rely on wild pile in shenagins as much

Thank you so much for this. I started playing 40K 18 months ago, piloting Black Templars. My typical opponents at the LGS (also newbies) play DeathGuard and Necrons. I lose more often than I win. I was beginning to suspect that the game was stacked against me. Now I know why I struggle and how I have to play smarter. I will keep on crusading.

I am wondering if it's complexity to use their rules in a satisfying way, or use the rules to win a game. Genestealer Cult is on top of the list, but they also have an easy time to get the jump on the opponent.

  • @rickrivers2021

    @rickrivers2021

    14 күн бұрын

The thing about GSC is getting the jump on the opponent doesn't win them games. Getting the jump on them in the absolute ideal way is how they win games, and if they do it wrong they'll be punished. GSC is very vulnerable to counterplay. If you control the board state, you can lock them out of primary, minimize the murder blobs, and with some armies even turn off their army rule by erasing blips. Bc they're a beta strike army, their opponent has a chance to properly control the board before they even get rolling, which means even the half of your army that is on the board has to be positioned perfectly to stall the enemy from locking your entire game plan down

I wonder if there should be an explicit divide between major factions and minor ones. Like, the armies that lend themselves to giving and taking a a lot of allies, or feel like a really weird distinct thing inside another army. If we moved things like knights, divergent chapters, agents/inquisition, kroot, quins, maybe tempestuous scions etc. Into a seperate category, it'd tell new players "hey, you can play these by themselves, but they won't get the versatility and support of a proper faction." Then they can pick up an allied major faction to round things out if they want. It'd also allow them to be mechanically distinct from thier allies without requiring a full-fledged codex, and make closely allied factions distinct and clear.

I play Necrons, tyranids, and I;m just starting thousand sons. I find that what makes Necrons fun and effective right now is the ability improvise and adapt when I plan falters. In addition, I don't feel tied down to one style of play in order to perform well. I can be deadly from afar or in melee, I can teleport, I can tank, I can run an adaptable jack of all trades army and still make things work. With thousand sons, I feel pressed to scry the rounds and come up with and execute plans that pay off EXCELLENTLY or dash me to pieces. I love the feeling having my decisions feel like the clincher on how I'll do and it's very thematic too! With Nids though, I feel like I have a limited way I need to play them to do well, I have to put a lot of work into making that play-style work out, and still it feels like I'm under duress and likely to founder at any moment with a number of bad rolls. It feels the MOST luck heavy of my three. I'm hopeful they'll update our Nid rules well so I either have more variety or can rely on monsters to play their role more.

Thousand Sons have a really high floor and a really high ceiling. You need to be on the ball with them or you’re going to be sad. Once you figure them out though it’s so much fun. Hands down my favorite army to play (I have thousand sons and a black Templar force, but it could easily just run codex marines too)

You are going to discover that there’s only a handful of Thousand Sons lists that really work, but the good news is with the last point update it’s no longer “here is the one list archetype”. Your choices are: - Magnus and rubrics en masse with loads of characters (the “all in on cabal” archetype seen before last MFM) - Magnus and the Scarab Death Star (previously point nerfed into oblivion but viable again) - Magnus and rubrics who brought friends - this list type is also newly opened to us because the point cuts in things like Helbrute or daemon prince. It’s similar to the first archetype but now we bring more high strength shooting instead of relying solely on obscene cabal point generation. I’m currently dabbling in this list type now and having real fun

I like this type of tier list, but I highly disagree with the list itself. It seems you are talking more about how difficult it is to be good with the faction, rather than how easy the rules are. Tau are far easier than Deathwatch, since Tau is basically all ranged and has a very simple Army rule, and like Space Marines they largely don't mix weapons within a unit.
