China wants to colonize Latin America, as they are doing to Africa, much like what europe did centuries ago. We can’t because our politicians are extremely corrupt, and don’t care about developing our countries. A poor country, is an easy country to steal from and to control. All these Chinese investments won’t do anything, they are just building roads, railways and ports in order to extract resources from our countries. In the maps of Chinese infrastructure projects shown in the video, you can clearly see how literally all investments in Argentina and Bolivia, and somewhat Chile and Paraguay, were connecting the lithium reserves (some of the largest reserves in the world of that mineral) with the port of Buenos Aires. South American countries should grow by themselves, but in a common way. We should invest in each other’s countries and integrate our economies more. That doesn’t mean simply closing ourselves to the exterior, but just doing it carefully. Our countries aren’t that strong nor have any leverage by themselves, it’s easy to take over us and manage every aspect of our economy and political decisions

Just came back from Mexico City and I've lived in China and Taiwan before. Yeah, DiDi and Chinese phones were everywhere. Not surprised. I've owned Xiaomi phones and laptops before and they're an amazing value. Apple, like in China, is still seen as a status symbol for the upper middle class who can afford it. Also Chinese metros are some of the best I've experienced. America doesn't produce affordable high quality tech or modern metro systems. Couldn't even pass an infrastructure bill. It's like watching a trainwreck in slow motion

You claim making business with the chinese is risky, but you do realize that major european economies and the US have China as their biggest trade partner right? It's really good to see the improvement about the life in Latin America. That place was not born as banana republic. People there have the dignity and have the right to surf the latest tech and products. Meanwhile China seems to do fair business with them, which means those countries will earn money maybe the first time since their establishment. Good to see China influence there. And there are still dark place in the world which wait the red star shining.

I don't want to end up like the middle east (Iraq, Afghanistan...etc) or south east Asian countries like Vietnam/Laos getting bombed to oblivion by the Americans. Or like Africa who's resources have been siphoned away by the West. I'd rather have a honest deal with China where infrastructure is built, my resources are intact, and I can visually see my own country improving, and standards of living go up.

Unlike IMF or western lenders, the money borrowed is NOT for payment of interests. The money China lends is for the building of infrastructures that is important for a country's development. How have they been ignored? The US is still the largest investor in many of these countries. Japan is also a huge a investor in many of these nations - for example japan has large manufacturing presence in many Mexican cities. China entering doesn’t mean others are ignoring it.

Sadly, China-India relations were poisoned by the war of 1962. I blame both Nehru and Mao for this equally, but I have to wonder if there was some US influence in shaping the absolutely pointless war. After all, sowing division and discord is a long-standing geopolitical strategy for the US. No one benefits from bad relations between India and China aside from the US.

The China "debt trap" narrative has recently been debunked by the British Debt Justice and World Bank data. They found that African countries owe 3x more to Western banks, asset managers and oil traders than to China, and are charged double the interest. 12% of Africa's external debt was owed to China lenders, compared to 35% to Western private creditors. .

Western countries intentionally keep under developed countries and developing countries on a horizontal path that guarantees the West keeps its legacies. If you keep them poor and promise them freedom, they will never become a threat. No country in the world operates a charity. They invest or loan base on profits. China providing these high risk loans are at least moving some of the countries ahead by providing much needed capital that no Western countries are willing to offer. Loans that at the least help modernise some of these countries. People say its a debt trap, but simply put....there are no free lunches. You sign on the dotted line, use the money wisely so that you can pay it back. Poor planning and corruption are your culprits. People love to neglect these facts. Its easy to blame the bank and not the borrower.

China is developing infrastructure and also creating employment opportunities for local people. All these years the US couldn't do that. If a country addresses the basic needs of the common people, then the people gives their whole hearted support in return. It is as simple as that.

This is a great opportunity for young Latin Americans to learn from the Chinese and grow their on businesses to compete. Latin Americans can also benefit if they play their cards right when negotiating between China and the United States.

As a Brazilian I like the painting business and the solid relationship that Brazil has with China! Brazil 35-40 years were not so far away and maybe Brazil was better, today China runs like a jaguar and Brazil is scoring. Brazil has the capacity for the same things that China did but we are on a side of the world where anyone who can be a rich country has to be above Mexico hahaha. If China helps Brazil to follow its progress I don't see any problem, here in the American continent the power is only a friend of the Europeans

Countries like Brazil have to negotiate with those who are willing to help bilaterally. In the end, business is what matters most. Here in Colombia the rise of Chinese has been astonishing, before you wouldn't see any Chinese company, now almost all the big infrastructure contracts are going to chinese companies. Didi has shattered Uber here, now almost everyone has a Xiomi phone and China is also our biggest trading partner now.

@@jatwangismyname900 Mostly good, Chianese companies build fast, cheap and good quality. Before with european companies the projects often took much much longer to complete than planned, with chinese companies that doesnt happen.

Xiaomi is the leading phone manufacturer with state of the art tech and competitive prices, which is why it's No1 in Europe too, it's not like it's a random offbrand targeting only developing countries.
