Campbell is spot on, Everton are in a similar situation as Spurs a few years ago. They have a strong starting 11 but a weak bench, if they want to compete they have to have depth

Fair play to Moyes, he gets memed but his Everton record is very good over that many games, and now he could get champions league football with a team that was floundering at the bottom.

Newcastle? How many years ago were Leicester worse than Newcastle? Leicester have thrived because of a consistent recruitment policy and stability. Everton have probably finally got similar in place - but took a few wrong turns to get there. Brands as DoF was always going to have to oversee a very slow overhauling of the playing staff as inherited so many long term, big wage contracts for shite players brought by Koeman and Allardyce under Walsh. Sadly, Everton have been ravaged by injuries all season with our "first choice XI" being fielded in only 6 games (5 wins, 1 draw)....the business we did last summer was brilliant, but Rome wasn't built in a day and fans have to be patient. This summer we can go again with Bolasie, Walcott, Besic all leaving and probably Bernard, Tosun, Delph as well....that allows a lot more business to be done that simply was not viable last summer. Patience toffees, it's coming...

He’s living off his reputation but I find the games genuinely are less entertaining when he’s commentating as crazy as that sounds. Carlo just wants to play defensively and we've had the most injuries in key areas, missing Dcl, Allan, Doucoure, Gomes, mina, Pickford, King, Gbamin (again), Richie, James , Olsen, Holgate, Davies & Digne have been injured too

Kean was a great signing when it occurred and looked good on paper. If he had gone on to provide the goals Lukaku used to they could be doing very well right now.

Moyes did a genuinely great job at Everton. Those last three years of stagnation really left a bad taste, as did the derby results. But Generally, he did great. And when you compare his accomplishments with Martinez, Koeman et al, he did much better with a a lower quality squad during a more a difficult era. The Moyes Respecter Squad has logged in

The question is if they even can. I mean who can they realistically sign to improve the squad enough to be battling the likes of City, Liverpool, United and Chelsea next season? I don't think their midfield is drastically better than their options in different positions on the field. Can Everton realistically get better striking options than DCL and Richarlison? Can they improve much on defensive options such as Digne, Kean and Godfrey? Lets be honest. Everton's competitors in the PL are in the market for a player like Håland while Everton is in the market for players like Callum Wilson. In my opinion a lot of this comes down to club stature and big, big money to invest not transfer strategy.

They have a genuine world class coach who can add 20% to any squad or team. Next step = transfer budget. Simple! It's all about $$ for cups and top 4. Even that won't be enough under some managers.

Right manager , at least 2 transfer windows to compete for top 6. Another window to compete for top 4. Need specialist players for their respective positions.

Everton need a Zouma like Centre Back. Coleman like RB and a top DM and a Left Winger.

The equivalents to Everton in Spain and Italy etc like villa real and Seville and Roma etc do compete better in Europa come to think of it. Carragher has stumbled on a point.

Agreed, though you're off with the teams you named a little. They are a little higher in the pecking order of their respective league. But if you look at spain, smaller clubs that qualify for the europa league like villareal, bilbao, granada etc. tend to do better than english clubs outside of the top 6. Everton, Leicester wolves, with the squads they have should do better in europe.

The stadium is being built in order to stop the club from being restrained with the FFP regulations. If anything, with the owner that they have, it’ll allow for more spending on the squad.

In my view the stadium will make things worse for Everton, at least to begin with, will add pressure to succeed while robbing them of that rocking Goodison magic. Sure west ham are doing well but ask any fan where they would rather be playing or if they think they would be better off at upton park and you will get the same answer.

Very different circumstances though, West Ham moved into an Olympic bowl a with stands a zillion miles from the pitch.... Everton will be moving into a custom built football stadium with big steep stands close to the pitch. It's magnificent and the atmosphere could well be much better in the new stadium - the revenue certainly will be as there'll finally be some corporate boxes!

The next step is getting into Europe by winning games and do it without attacking other team's busses and fans and by having their fans not cause two stadium disasters. I would say that is the next step for them.

Cara is full of it with sneaking a few "LFC superiority in the city" comments in. Notice how he also started on Everton's record in Europe after the ban that Liverpool got for all English team was lifted. Everton were actually champions the very year that Liverpool got English teams kicked out of Europe for 5 years (1985) and won it again in 86-87. They would have been at Europe's top table during those years and who knows where they would be now. However. w/o Europe, rather than building and consolidating, that Everton side gradually disbanded w/o being able to attract equivalent talent to replace them. In effect, Everton was the team severely punished for Liverpool's infraction and have not been back at the top since.

The problem is when teams sell a young superstar like Lukaku they don’t look to get another one. If they reinvested that money into young players like Wolves has done then the money is always there when u need to sell

Lukaku wasn't really young but I know what you mean, but at that point we had no other choice. It was cash in now and get the £75-£80 million or see what happens in the Europa league and most likely lose him next year for nothing. The problem wasn't selling him, it was the Director Of Football Steve Walsh not communicating with the manager and just signing whoever. We spent the Lukaku money on 3 number 10's, Michael Keane (our only ok signing) and then a 2-3 inexperienced strikers and wingers who were never good enough.

Everton need CL football with the investments they have made or they will go through a rough time in a couple of years
