Ratings are out. Most viewed US Open since 2013 nearly doubling the viewership. Highest was 5.9 million viewers peak in 2013. This time around, it was 11.4 million and peaked again at 11.3 meaning the peak lasted longer than 2013. That is insane. For reference, last year's US Open drew 3.4 million viewers and they were raving at how viewership had increased 20% over the previous year.

I don't know anyone in the real world who hated Bryson. 99% of the hate was propaganda made by the media to sell his story. He was box office for being different and out spoken about his methods, and the media jumped on it and spun a yarn to sell. Even the Bryson vs Brooks was blown up to be bigger than it was. Bryson has always been a nice guy. 👍

I remember watching a PGA tournament and two young men (one probably twenties and one much younger) standing all by themselves and held out their fists for a fist bump from Colin Morikowa between holes. He acted like they were invisible. The two young men were obviously disappointed. Contrast that with DeChambeau signing a hat and shaking hands with a man who was wheelchair bound and had some form of severe disability between holes at the recent US Open. The disabled man had the biggest simile you can imagine.

I clicked on this video because Bryson Dechambeau's name was in it. I play golf, I don't really watch golf. I couldn't care less about the PGA or LIV. We are in the era, where we can chose athletes for what they are and not what as they are sold as by the media. Second point,, The days of watching an athlete doing stuff on screen is done. We all want to know how the sausage is made. I want to see my athletes explain and teach me how to get to get better with my game. We used to get glimpses of it when some "Pro" tips were included in a tournament coverage but now with YT, we get channels like Bryson's that actually give you the entire lesson. We don't have to watch 10 hours of TV or a semi-pro on YT to get to the best content.

@@yoholmes273I think you're missing his point. Bryson is taking the game to his people, just like Arnold did. More young people probably are familiar with Arnold than know Jack, because Arny's face is on an iced tea can. Bryson's face is on KZread, playing other KZread golfers using kids clubs as a handicap. He legitimizes both the other golfers and the space, as does the Bryan brothers, Grant Horvat, Garrett Clark, Luke Kwan and a handful of others. Tiger could stay very relevant if he tapped into this arena, but people will advisors will tell him it is beneath him. John Rahm has dipped his toes in and appears to really enjoy it. Getting to know these guys puts an entirely different perspective on watching these guys play. Remember the Shell Oil series? What a record of the older giants. Someday, far in the future, people will watch Bryson and John and Brad Daulke and Grant Horvat and be happy for the opportunity. I'm happy to watch them play now. Have a great summer, Holmes.

Bryson is compelling to watch. The tension and drama when he was standing over that bunker shot on 18 needing an up and down was palpable. The TV camera from behind wasn’t able to provide enough clarity so when he first hits it you go “where is it?” …which immediately kicks your heart rate up a few beats a minute. Then they switch cameras and you see it arcing down not far from the pin, then it hits the green and rolls out less than four feet and if your main guy is Rory its a sinking feeling, but it your main guy is Bryson its euphoric. Nobody who watched that moment gets away without experiencing a deep emotional feeling for one guy or the other. Holy smokes, it doesn’t get better than that. None of that “oh, it’s just Tiger beating the field again for the umpteenth time”.

From Bryson's interviews, his videos with KZreadrs such as Grant Horvat where he does goofy stuff like play in knickers with hickory clubs, and his interaction with fans on and off the course I think it's pretty evident that he's just a quirky and genuinely good person. For me, at least, I kind of started rooting for him as a middle finger to the haters when he got all the crap during the Koepka "beef" and the LIV stuff. People shouting "Brooksie" when he hit his drives and junk like that and saying he was taking "blood money" (as though the PGA players don't endorse stuff made in sweatshops and companies that do billions in the Middle East). So at first I was just going against the grain, and I thought he was just interesting with his math and his equipment tinkering. But that has come around to rooting for him because I think he's just a really likeable guy and I think Karma should push the winds of fortune to someone like him over a spiteful puppet like Rory.

He’s playing some great golf I don’t like how he plays but it’s effective. If that us open was at any other course he wouldn’t have won you can’t hit it all over the course and consistently miss fairways and win on a course with legit rough. Again he played well and did what he needed to do to win but his game isn’t golf and shouldn’t be rewarded for how far he hits it if he can’t hit fairways all the time.

bryson has helped change golf into the novelty version desired by those who own the novelty sport and sell overprice novelty equipment that has no place in tournament golf. it has ruined the game by changing it from 'shot making' into 'bomb and gouge', with limited competition, since there are only so many gorillas who can hit 350 yard drives into the rough on every hole, leaving wedges to every green... since when is that golf? since the novelty club makers made a deal with the pga to alter the game...bryson is one of the few lucky benefactors of playing against a limited field on courses designed just for their novelty games. when was the last time that a u.s open champion missed every fairway and won? twice now with bryson, since so few others could be competitive on the stretched out novelty courses. 500 yard par 4's...that's not golf, that's novelty golf, and it has reduced the game from real mastery of the swing, to something measured in meaningless metrics like, club head speed and ball speed. who cares about ball speed...golf is about mastery of the swing as demonstrated by shot making ability, which was always measured by FAIRWAYS and GREENS in regulation.

Bryson is NOT "changing golf". What an absurdist take. Bryson is simply a man taking advantage of technology to amplify his personality and reach to the audience. You know, something Bobby Jones did a 100 years ago in his "How I play golf" film series. Like John Daly before him, Bryson is personable and a big bomber , which always brings a crowd. However this idea he is somehow "changing golf" is absurd. Golfers have been making videos for years and years and years (at least 100). To say this is somehow new or groundbreaking is erroneous & juvenile at best.

A downhill left to right slider on extremely fast greens is hard to commit to, that would be a 50/50 putt for the field if it was on the first hole of the first day.
