How Beckham Mastered the Freekick - Step by step Tutorial
In this video I show you How to Curve the Ball with added power & whip without compromising on accuracy. I hope you enjoy!
Still the most successful freekick technique in the premier league, Beckhams iconic freekick style has been admired by many. Whilst it's been almost 20 years since he's last appearance in the top flight, he still holds the record for most freekicks scored - Quite incredible considering he's spent the majority of his career outside of the UK.
His technique can be applied to passing, shooting & crossing of the ball. I've broken it down to 6 steps that you can follow along too and practice in your own time. Some of them might come more naturally to you, whilst others might need some time to wrap your head around. But with time and repetition, you too can Master the Curve :)
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers Folks,
Tony

Other tips I think might be useful are: 1. You can bend your standing leg for better control and power if need be, because you can move your body more smoothly 2. Angle your torso slightly downwards or at least straight if you don't want the ball to fly away vertically 3. If you feel uncomfortable performing a technique in a specific way, adjust your movement until it's both effective and sort of natural

The only part that's useful is where he hits the ball with what part of the foot. One thing is not mentioned is about the torso. The more power you put into your shot, the more your chest should be pointed to the floor, if not the ball will go to the moon. Beckham keeps his chest at a 90 degree angle with the floor, balanced, in control. Other thing to pay attention too is how much you should bend the knee of your shooting leg, bend more for more power. cheers from brazil

Hey 👋 thanks for the lovely feedback :). What position do you play as that will play into it. But essentially, you’ll want to look where there is space so you can move into it ready to receive the ball. Also, if a team mate has a ball and there is defenders between you and that team mate, try and move to a position where there is a clear path of sight so that you now become and option :) I’ll try and make a video about soon 👍 I hope this helps

Juninho has the greatest score, but have you heard of Rogerio Ceni? He scored 59 free kicks being a goalkeeper
Beckham's technique was beautiful. The other person who could take a free kick better than Beckham was, in my opinion, Maradona. Maradona taught Zola how to curl the ball from a free kick. Watch the video of Zola explaining it when taught the yougsters. Maradona's technique was out of this world.

Yea sure thing. Although it happens after the ball has left the foot, the drag happens naturally if you’ve created enough momentum with the other steps. If the momentum isn’t created, this step will feel incredibly unnatural. So by thinking about the drag, when you’re striking the ball, it will encourage you to shift your weight across the ball, causing more spin 👍 I hope that makes sense
