How Apple’s iPhone Overtook Samsung As The Top Smartphone In The World

Apple’s iPhone was first announced by Steve Jobs in January 2007. Today, research shows that the company has over 1.5 billion active users and controls 53 percent of the market share in the United States. The 2008 launch of the App Store was a pivotal turning moment for the company and now Apple has surpassed Samsung as the world’s leader of smartphones for the first time. CNBC explores how the iPhone became one of the best-selling products of all time.

I still have a working Palm and a working HTC Qtek 9000 (basically a tiny laptop/PDA/smartphone). brilliant devices to be honest and even more customizable with a modified Windows 6.0 installation the "modern" HTC device, but the original Windows Mobile 5.0 was already great and i even made Wolfenstein 3D to run on it like 20 years ago. There was also a lot free, from private persons handmade games to install, snake replicas, even super mario replica games or space shooters etc. People really tend to forget how amazing PDAs were. They were just complex and "inconvenient"... people rather had a Nokia phone, a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone or so because they were limited, but SIMPLE and small. Thats why i prefer iPhones, they are simple and i dont want a phone i have to care more about phone (costumizations, settings, safety, problem solving, etc.) than using it for the tasks i have it. I want a simple phone with usable and "tested"/"apple approved" apps, no risk of installing maleware or just a bad optimized app for the given device.

Nonsense. Whats the biggest change in S20-S24 Samsung phones, tell me! Oh wait i know it.... With the S23 U they finally fixed performance issues which people annoyed for 3 years, and with the S24U they finally got rid of the unreasonable 10x camera module in favor of a more reasonable 5x with high MP sensor instead. Innovation and changes or just fixing well known issues over 4 years? When i compare the development of lets say iPhone X etc to iPhone 15 lineup and Samsungs S20-S24 changes, improvements etc, i have to say Apple improved a well known and working/liked design and features, meanwhile, as said above.... Samsung just fixed issues they might intentionally created.

I am also one of those who stay 1-2 iPhone generations behind in order to keep things in budget. At this time I am using a iPhone 12, Apple Watch 7 and Air pod's Pro. Usually Verizon will offer pretty incredible deals if you pick a phone 1-2 generations behind, the iPhone 12 only cost me 8$ a month and the watch was like 12$ a month. At this point, it's all about personal preference. Some like Apple's simplicity and don't need a bunch of customization, others want it. The main *** vs *** argument between the 2 is about the camera. My friends that have all had iPhones think my S23 Ultra's camera is the best, but I personally think that Apple has better contrast. But when you consider that we now live in the social media era and that every social media app has a filter/editing feature, it really doesn't matter. TBH, I'm more annoyed with Samsung users who keep complaining about removable storage: they don't realize that having internal storage allows faster processing for pics and vids which allows better quality. Anyone who complains they need more than 512 GB of storage means that they're trying to put movies and 👉👌 on their phones. Keep in mind one thing though, this news doesn't shake Samsung in the least; when you open an iPhone, a good number of the components are Samsung lol. That's right, Samsung makes money from every iPhone. In fact, Apple is Samsung's biggest customer ($Billions) just from component sales.

This comment is more informative than the actual premise of the video. I do want to add that removable storage absolutely does not affect picture quality as it is all done in real-time in the phone's memory, not storage. While it's slow, it's still better than not having any expandable storage. Transferring files by removing the SD card is also a lot more convenient (for me) than using a USB cable since there is no chance of the cable accidentally being unplugged.

Still Apple relies on Samsung. Is it really worth $3 trillion? Is Tesla worth over $1 trillion? These are all market evaluations, not the true worth of a company. I would argue no company in the world is as diversified as Samsung with its divisions not only in smartphones but militarily weapons, advanced flat screens, ship building, medical devices, entertainment, construction, advanced chip and memory manufacturing, insurance, etc. Apple has all its eggs in one basket which is risky. But from a business standpoint, Samsung is a more stable, better company.

Until now, there was one Achilles' heel on the Android's side: short OS upgrade period. Now that Pixel 8 has 7 years of upgrade, which is about the same as that of iPhones, I don't think I would ever need an iPhone. Plus, it has a locked ecosystem and weird software restrictions like not being able to change the default browser or using a different web browser engine (Chrome on iPhone is just Safari with a skin). Security? Well, most of the shenanigans on the Android are because the user agreed to install some random software by ignoring warnings and actively clicking the install button. If they install only famous apps from the Play Store, I don't think the security of Android and iPhones is much different.

Although iPhone is an excellent smartphone, I find a bit disappointing that Tim Cook may not be visionnary enough to understand how to create an amazing user experience for Apple devices… For example, in terms of user experience Witricity/Airfuel wireless charging looks so much more convenient than Qi wireless charging, and seems to scale well across different type of devices. Another example is multi 10Gbits/s, low latency 60Ghz WiGig (802.11ay) wireless connectivity / docking which would allow to connect wireless to all the I/O (USB-C, Ethernet, HDMI,…) for an iPad, Macbook, iMac,… One more is Tim Cook stubborn refusal to integrate touchscreen in Mac computers : although touch is not convenient everywhere, it is still one more option to interact with the UI that is more convenient in some cases. It is frustrating not to have the option as users are so accustomed to it with iPads and iPhones… And the list of things like this goes on…

@@user-sj5ju4jb7t The Apple Watch and Vision Pro are products pushed by Tim Cook, and the Apple Watch is not a groundbreaking success (although leader in its category), neither will be the Vision Pro. When launching the iPad, Steve Jobs clearly explained that for a product to exist, it needs to much be better/easier at a sufficient number of things to have a reason to exist : The Vision Pro is worst at most things, and marginally better maybe to watch videos, and some professional usages. It will be a failure… Tim Cook lacks vision of what people really need to help them in their life. My belief is that there are so much more opportunities in home automation (as prove Amazon Alexa sales volume) : Apple could refine the experience, to make it better and easier, and could sell a small device a big bigger than an iPhone, with different type of sensors (temperature, humidity,…) and an AI assistant, that can be controlled through touch or voice, and that would be installed in each room of a house and be well integrated with iPhone/iPad/Macs,… So much more opportunities there with the right ecosystem (Matter,…)

Apple's focus on utility, starting with three devices in one in its 2007 iPhone launch, is its winning edge. It doesn’t have to be known as the having the best of any particular feature, say its camera or keyboard, but having the best overall experience. Stay mad 😂 you seem really salty about iPhone’s success. It is not only the best selling smartphone, but it absolutely dominates the high end smartphone market IPhone is only company that sells high end smartphones exclusively. Most other companies like Samsung get most of their sales from low end or mid end smartphones So Apple being number one while having the most expensive product line speaks volumes about the quality of their product

First of all since it's only a single tap to unlock iOS, my phone frequently gets unlocked in my pocket. Second, no option to schedule a text (seriously apple?) and third, so many features are buried behind useless menus. Why do I have to do multiple things to enable the flash always on for the camera?

As someone who exclusively uses Apple stuff, there is something I find extremely interesting about Samsung users... And I swear I don't mean this to be smug sounding. They feel the continual need to point out iPhone's issues. They usually attempt that, "last bastion of choice" argument by citing customisation or trying to point out Apple's "strict" policies on things, but it's usually moot. I probably cannot encapsulate the quote just right, but a few months ago I read a quote like this and it just clicked with me on how I feel whenever I'm approached by a non-iPhone user ranting their mind off about how much they hate the iPhone. "I know you're fighting a proxy war and don't know it, but I promise you I legit never lose sleep thinking about how much Android users dislike iPhone."

An impressive video that presents the story of how Apple phones overtook Samsung to become the top smartphone in the world. It's a very interesting topic and I was impressed with the breakdown of the factors that contributed to Apple's success. The video highlighted a few key aspects that helped Apple surpass Samsung. Firstly, innovative design and high quality products were some of the key factors in attracting consumers. Apple has always worked to create beautiful and elegant devices that offer a flawless user interface and a wide range of features. In addition, the powerful processors and advanced technologies used in Apple devices ensure high performance and excellent user experience. This makes Apple phones attractive to users who need reliable and powerful devices to perform various tasks. The video also emphasized the importance of Apple's ecosystem, which includes the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud and other services. The integration of all of these services allows Apple users to get a complete feature set and user experience, which also contributes to the company's success. Overall, the video provides an interesting overview of how Apple surpassed Samsung to become the global smartphone market leader. Thanks to the video authors for their research and informative content!
