When a popular band loses its singer, it rarely bounces back to reach the level of success it had prior to the lineup shift. The most remarkable exception to this rule is Australian powerhouse AC/DC, which released the legendary album 'Back in Black' on July 25, 1980.

The thing about acdc's singers is its not a case of who is better. Its a case of a guy who put 110% into the music, and unfortunately passed away. But when Brian came in, it was like a passing of the torch and making sure that it burnt as bright as it did with Bon, to carry on his work to someone who was more than capable of filling his shoes. ACDC is classic rock, and its wonderful that they have the history.

FUN FACT: AC/DC has sold more albums in the U.S. than any other band besides The Beatles, The Eagles, and Led Zeppelin (source: RIAA).

Powerage, Let There Be Rock and For Those About to Rock are my personal fav AC/DC albums, but HtH and BiB being released within a year of each other considering the circumstances may be the greatest achievement by any hard rock band ever. PERFECT Mutt Lange production. A guitar tone and feel that countless bands have tried and failed to replicate. Riffs, choruses and solos so iconic that they’re all still blasted worldwide at parties and sports events despite being 45 years old. Two of the most unique vocalists in music history. Without a doubt, Back in Black is the goat of music comebacks. Great vid 🤘

Back in black was the first AC/DC album i ever bought. I remember being a metal loving teenager in high school in 2003 and went to wal mart with my mom. I was in the CD section and that was the first album I saw and I immediately bought it. Highway to hell was the 2nd one I bought.
Brian Johnson said it best: Bon Scott did not quit nor was he fired. Brian was brought in as a replacement because Bon died.
Allman Brothers - Eat A Peach. Skydog, the greatest slide guitarist of all-time, died and not only did the band recover to release arguably their best album but Dickey did the unthinkable; filled Duane's shoes.

Brian is one of the greatest singers and is amazing, and Bon was a genius lyricist, amazing frontman with a great stage presence and magnificent singer. Brian had big shoes to fill, and yet he did so AMAZINGLY. Its not often that a band successfully incorporates a new singer and can carry on; and for that AC/DC is truly incredible. Back In Black was able to follow up 2 of the best albums of all time (Powerage and Highway To Hell) and managed to get its own stance up there too!
as a big fan of AC/DC I still think that highway to hell was the band's best album, on the other hand back in black is a masterpiece and was the best possible way to get back into action after the tragic loss of bon scott, simply 2 incredible hard rock albums

Bon Scott became immortal because of Brian. If they packed it in 1980 they would be largely forgotten today.

After his return to the music industry (since 1983, the musician was undergoing treatment for alcoholism) with the successful "The Nightmare Returns" tour, Cooper had sought assistance from Desmond Child to create a comeback album. Trash became one of Cooper's biggest albums, accompanied by music videos for "Poison", "Bed of Nails", "House of Fire", and "Only My Heart Talkin'"... "

Their lead singer died then they released an album with a new singer. It's absolutely a comeback.
The Greatest Comeback Album of All Time? 23.12.23 Joseph Alton Byrd was only 5 foot or so..andhe was a pro basketball player.... the bands i like either carry on plodding along or just fold. this is metal, though, and exploding drummers and people being left to get home via the vile odes of canada... well..... hmmmmmmm... you can't see motorhead making a come back and if they tried that i think a few dead people would be strewing the various highways and byways of the tour bus route.... lemmy still alive? wow. imagine... the beatles gettin back together would have been cool circa 1975.
