How a PROPER putter fitting can improve your putting

Спорт

Check out how getting a proper custom fitting for a putter can dramatically improve your putting.
Before my trip to Precision Golf I was pretty sceptical about putter fittings and, in all honesty, thought they were a bit of a gimmick; after all, putting is a relatively straightforward motion. My mind has been well and truly blown having now been through it - there is so much more going on within a putting stroke that I had never even considered (that might be down to amateurish naivety).
The fitting I had with Tom, from Precision Golf, was so thorough and in-depth and, when combined with all the technology they have at their facility, was completely eye opening and highlighted how much of a difference getting fit for a putter can really make to your game!

That was a great putter fitting video. You’re so knowledgeable about what a small difference in a putter’s shape can do and you demonstrate it using the laser. However, I have found that in a fitting, putting indoors with a dead straight putt helps you get your aim right with different putters, but if you buy the one that worked great but you didn’t love the shape, it’s a disaster on the course. That’s why I liked how you said even though that putter worked for him, since he didn’t like it, it would never work. Great video!

Great Video Joe. Really enjoyed watching. I had a couple putter fittings myself and it’s always an eye opener to me. I know from all these fittings what kind of putter I should game.

Very interesting points. What I would like to know is if these optimizations would be confirmed if you did the same trials / measurements three or five different days for the same person. Is it really independent of “the form of the day”. Is it repeatable from one session to another for a same player ?

Been using PG for my fittings for about 13 years and had my current putter since early 2000's. However, due to injury, age and just general changes in my swing etc, I've recently been back for a review on my putter. After about 15 putts with mine and then changing to some options that the team at PG handed me, it was clear that my current one was just in need of alterations to loft, lie, shaft length and grip. We also tried different makes, models, neck styles, head styles and narrowed down the choices that I could go for if I wished to purchase a new one. There was no push for me to buy new as the team at PG felt that a new longer shaft and altering the lie and loft would accomplish what I needed and the results were clear to see on the scree and with the balls rolling into the cup time after time. Unfortunately my putter is so old that getting a new shaft wasn't actually available any longer and so we've reverted to one of the other options that we went through on the day. Just got to wait for it to come through and pop in and collect it. On the flip side, maybe my son will want my old one as it's still a really good quality putter.

I am a good putter, but I use a low end putter. It’s a bit of a sand bag move. I just don’t want to show to the course with a Scotty camoran. I like the idea of spend on used putters with proper weighting for me

What’s more important - aim or speed? I’ve found different putter heads affect my speed control. For example, I switched to a mallet help lengthy putts but ended up losing all speed control on short ones.

The only thing that confuses me is if you find a putter that you aim dead straight, but the stroke you've got used to is a pull stroke, won't you then miss everything left? Do we just naturally re-adjust the stroke or do we have to retrain to get rid of the pull?

i just bought me ER6 evnroll to try.my miss is a pull i pull all my shots just my natural golf swing.an the ER6 has 12 degree toe hang very little is what the guy made putter said if your miss is left i could benefit from just a little toe hang.i picked the ER6 my study i found out this putter pushes the rules of pga to the max.an design of the face the lines brings the ball back to whole with in 15 feet i think this is best putter that ever will be in the world..nothing else can be done to putter.Evnroll owns the patent to this tech just.not just grooves on a putter that does nothing but hit ball shorter but helps with off center hits

Once you are fitted if you ever change your ball position how can the data stay the same ? You would have to get re fit with the new ball position. This is what is so hard to get right and I bet many great golfers have changed many things to get it absolutely aimed and rolling correctly

Go with your gut not your head...respect by the way ...so the answer to your question ABSOLUTELY NOT! and BTW you have a choice in the end anyways and also BTW IF your that serious and you want to get this analyzed then why would you even care what you pay????

Was the whole session just on finding a putter you aimed correctly ? You could have sorted that with your own putter for a few quid ; just draw a line on the ball and line that up correctly ! Alignment at address is overated anyway -Steve Stricker and Brad Faxon don't have their putters aligned to their start line at address and they're two of the best putters ever .

Steve N not at all; we went into the best lengths of putter, head weights and touched on grips as well (annoyingly I didn’t have the time on the to get it all in) but they can also look at different shafts as well as counter-balancing of the putter etc. It can be more tailored to what you want out of it - I just know that my issue is alignment, so we focused on that!

Steve N it’s not all about alignment when it comes to putting. U can have a perfect line but u can push it to the right. For me I don’t need a putter fitting bc i can just go to a putting green for a hour and find out what im doing wrong.

Great use of data and technology but the only problem with this methodology is it isn’t a blind study for the student. Once he knows he is aiming right of the hole, he will instinctively correct to aim more left when faced with the same set up, even if he is trying his best to be un bias. Your methodology would be perfect if you didn’t allow the student to see his aim on the laser and kept that data for yourself each time so he couldn’t correct his bias

I would have walked out the moment he tried to make me use a putter I can't stand the look of. I'll pick up a putter & know with in 5 putts whether it's a putter I would want use.
