House Tours: A Couple's $2,300 Apartment in Brooklyn, New York
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Name: Amanda Heald & Josh Hull
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Size: 300 SQ FT/28 SQ METERS
Type of Home: Apartment, 1 Bedroom
Years Lived In: 3 years
Amanda and Josh weren't prepared for the amount of work they would have to put into their 300 sq ft apartment, but with creativity, and some compromise, they turned this space, which was an eye sore, into a home they can call their own. From ambitiously creating a lofted bedroom structure to completely upgrading their kitchen and balcony space, though this space may be temporary (due to their expecting bundle of joy), they assured that it will be more of a home that they love than just a place for the moment.

I like that in such a small space you took the time to talk shit on previous tenants and workers.
@healdbydesign7403
9 ай бұрын
@@sarahcook895We tried not to speak negatively about the previous tenants’ style but rather describe what the space looked like before we moved in as we were asked to do. However, our landlord’s workers did do a horrendous job (painting over a picture instead of removing it and leaving globs of dripped paint on the counter for us to clean up, splattering paint on our furniture when they used them as step stools while they painted, etc.) Any negative language used to describe their work was completely warranted and I stand by my criticism.

I'm really impressed by how much you were able DIY for this small space to make it functional! Just wondering, logistically, how did you do it? Were you building in the space or did you have a workshop you were able to go to?
@healdbydesign7403

@@elijahlee6265 Thank you! Great question. Some of the building was done on our balcony before we put the grass down, of course (cleaning up the saw dust would have been a nightmare!) And some of it was at my husband’s warehouse. But because of the size of our place, everything had to be assembled in our apartment.

It's too much. This would make me want to shriek!!!! I think the previous owner/tenant, was onto something, when they had a lot of white walls....I wish I could have seen the previous place with furniture in it.
I was so glad when she mentioned she was a nanny, and actually has a very realistic view that once the baby starts crawling, they're going to have to seriously rethink their apartment. (if you guys read this, congrats, hope all is going well and you're loving parent life). I absolutely love everything about their place, if I was on my own I'd move in in a heartbeat without changing a single thing.

One of the most creative living spaces I’ve seen in 60 years. Unique, clever, and resourceful use of color and furnishings resulting in a lovely home.
wow this is one of the best decor makeovers I've seen. So much thought and improvising to make that space theirs. Everything is practical and of course VERY stylish. I love it. The flap in their bedroom for water!!! genius and so cute. I wish this couple and their baby so much life and wellness. As a former kitchen designer....Bravo - standing ovation!
They feel like they've really prioritized safety and comfort in their lives. The true definition of a home. I am so in admiration of how well they work as partners, they both seemed very heavily involved in the making of this beautiful home. True partnership, a true merging of ideas-- and that baby is so lucky to have parents who are in tune with their values.
This baby is super lucky to have such creative parents!!!
Oh my goodness, such a stunning Victorian home. Your baby furniture is truly beautiful.
This space will be my go-to video to demonstrate that one can have darker colours in a small space, and it actually makes the room feel larger. Such talented people!

It's as though they have created their very own Hobbit House! It's simply otherworldly. She must create many other things in life which I would love to see. The bedroom would make me so claustrophobic I couldn't stand it, yet they are so at peace in it. There would be no air to breathe, yet they are unfazed. It's just amazing. They seem perfectly suited. They are sure to be lovely parents, but I do hope they are able to find a larger apartment soon...and please show us the next creation when they do!!

Such an innovative space! It's truly unbelievable how you managed to get everything to fit so well in the space! I love the outdoor space as well!
What great ideas you folks have had! Enjoy your space and CONGRATS on your new baby. 😊
Victorian core for the win. They did a great job it doesn't even feel like it's 300 sq ft.
I think the land lord owes them money at this point
Oh I love what they did with the place! 😍 So whimsical and cozy. I like how they came up with ideas to use every little corner and the height of the ceiling to store things and have furniture with multiple purposes. I hope they won't have difficulties with raising their baby in that small place though. That's the only thing that worries me. Besides that, it's a beautiful home and incredibly creative couple. 👌🏾

Man I LOVE this home. So unique, vibrant and electric!!!!!
One of the more inventive, playful, and charming responses to space I've seen. (Dig the roundish living room). Interesting and lovely young couple, and soon-to-be child. Wishing them continued beauties and delights.
This is incredible. Although personally it's not my style, the amount of creativty and genius space-solving solutions this couple came up with is awe inspiring. They should have their own show where they transform small spaces of other people! Genius.
WOW, that’s what I must say about you both in creating an utterly charming and beautiful and PRACTICAL tiny house in Brooklyn. Your creative ideas and execution show brilliant imagination and skill to be able to actually build in the shelves and doors and the balcony and paint and colors and loft space so that it works for you and your soon sweetheart arrival. A most charming and beautiful result. Thank you both for sharing this. You are a great duo with one of you with the creativity and dreams and the other of you, such fine gentleman of your dreams who is so skilled and loving to want to please you. Best of luck and I think you two should open a small business to help others implement their tiny home designs in tiny house living spaces or for that matter, large spaces as well.
the bubble machine made me love them even more.
I love how you made the space work and the beautiful decor. Please record and share your next space with us. I love how your minds work and the gathering of materials and ideas. Bravo
I really adore getting glimpses into people's lives that let us see love.
I would be claustrophobic in that small space, but the *style* of it is absolutely gorgeous, creative and adorable.
I’m so glad to see the comments here, as a lifetime New Yorker I am blown away by this space. I love your style, and I have to say the use of space is phenomenal. I live in a studio, but I don’t do DIY projects, just decorating, creating storage and rearranging (constantly) to make things work. Kudos. The colors are beautiful, the outside space, the sweet nursery. And I think you can definitely get away with being there until you have a toddler. Normally I would say “stay in the apartment”, but I can understand it might be a bit tricky once they’re moving around! All the best. 💜
This is one of the most innovative spaces I've ever seen! What a great use of space, plus it all looks intentional, rather than "we'll settle for placing this item here awkwardly, because there's no place else" (if that makes sense).
I'm really rooting for this couple. They've put so much effort into this space and I wish they're able to find somewhere bigger.
Not my taste but I'm very impressed with the creativity, hard work and execution.
WOW! My favorite Apartment Therapy tour ever! LOVE this couple's ingenuity, creativity, and design. Innovative AND beautiful!!!

These people need to write a book of space saving ideas. This is awesome.
I am so amazed by this insanely creative apartment. Stop being a nanny and be a decorator! You're INCREDIBLE!!
Here I am living in Ann Arbor, Michigan in a 1160 square feet house with my husband and my 16 year old daughter, our little cat and dog, thinking I am a space saving queen and then I watch this video haha! Amazing job!

You guys have probably been the most creative in the use of space I've seen. I can't put my finger on it, but I'm reminded of November of 1920, when my grandmother immigrated from Scotland to marry my grandfather, coming thru Ellis Island. They originally had a tiny apartment in NYC, before they moved due to the fact that my grandfather was in the US Navy. They went on to live in Long Beach, CA, Oklahoma, and the New Orleans area, before coming to settle in the Norfolk VA area. But your apartment somehow put their story in my head.😊
