Aegon smashing his father's model was extremely symbolic: A disregard for the efforts of those who came before him. His father painstakingly committed hours to build it, and it's a strong parallel to the same energy he put into keeping his family and realm together. And a willingness to destroy and act without thinking.

Viserys didn't try to keep the realm together. He ignores the brewing succession crisis when there were many good solutions, marry aegon to rhaenyra, name aegon heir, don't remarry. But what does the king do? Plays with Legos while tensions brew in his court and the few times he bothers to address the issue he just screams at them to love each other.

This episode was top-tier acting, from the whole cast. Rhaenyra and Damon's argument, Otto in disbelief at how wrong he was for choosing Aegon, the twins heartbreaking fate; also, Phia is stunning as Halaena. A nice parallel scene in this episode was Daemon telling Rhaenyra she was not "chosen" for what she believes while Otto tells Aegon the same thing. Obviously, Rhaenyra was not chosen on a whim (she knows about a song of ice and fire)- but the way each episode presents us just how similar of a situation Rhaenyra and Aegon are in, is brilliant. Doomed siblings, perhaps.

Tom is slowly taking the spotlight this season and I love it. He vividly captures the internalized rage, trauma and conflict within Aegon's character so well that he always hooks my attention in every scene he's in. I especially love how Aegon is using his position as king to compensate for his inner conflicts. Treating Jaeherys with love and familiarizing him with politics to make him experience things he never had. Trying to be fair and generous to the commonfolk to not only receive praise which he only seldom experienced, but to also convince himself that he's on a path of redemption despite the abhorrent shit he did. Exerting power over Otto and Alicent since he always felt submissive and powerless towards them and etc. It's the coping mechanism he desperately needed but didn't want nor deserve.

I disagree on two things so far: 1) I don’t think Daemon wanted to choke Rhaenyra again. I think he wanted to touch her and she recoiled because of the trauma. I saw a flash of regret on his face when he sees her reaction, not that it matters much, but I don’t think he wanted to choke her. He can’t believe she doesn’t trust that he’s on her side, he cares about her not trusting him, but who can blame her. 2) I don’t think Rhaenyra sent Baela because she doesn’t care if something happens to her. She sent her because she trusts Baela will keep her distance and not do anything rash or put herself in danger. Jace is grieving and I believe that if he ran into Aemond or his dragon, if he saw any opportunity to hurt the greens, he would, no matter how ill-advised. He would 1000% react emotionally.

He definitively didn't want to choke her, I agree. He touched her face. To be fair, Rhaenyra reverted to a spoilt teenager and took her anger over bad PR on Daemon. When married people argue and fight, they often say things they don't mean, and I don't see what the big deal about that fight is, except that a queen should know better, especially if she needs to prove herself... and what did she do? Pushed the person most loyal to her away. If anything, in that moment she demonstrated that she doesn't care about Daemon's feelings, but mostly about what he can do for her. If she didn't, in all those years, notice how sensitive Daemon was about his brother and how much he craved his approval, then ser Crispin was right about her at least once - "selfish c**t", though not in the way _he_ meant it.

I believe it was the other twin that killed his brother and knew he made a horrible mistake which is why he said “My queen, forgive me” and falls on his sword. The leg wound was telling! Clearly you don't understand Daemon at all. Even Matt Smith said that Jaehaerys' death was a mistake and that Daemon's full loyalty is to Rhaenyra. Daemon didn't care about Jaehaerys' because in his eyes he didn't order the death so it's not his fault. And as for how it hurt Rhaenyra's claim, Daemon is a Targaryen Supremist. He doesn't care about what the other lords think because he sees his house as above question and the law. In Daemons eyes all Rhaenyra has to do is kill the greens and take tge throne which is why he was ready to attack Kings Landing after they learned of Viserys' death. To him the rest of the realms opinions doesn't matter because they are lesser due not being Valyrian dragonriders. Daemon does not want war but he does understand that Rhaenyra will never get her throne back without spilling green blood and he sees all the negotiations as useless. To him war is inevitable and all that talk was just the calm before the storm. And Daemon was right. He always saw Otto and the greens for who they really were and he knew that they would never give up and bow to Rhaenyra. Plus Daemon is angry that Rhaenyra was showing the same weakness Viserys did that allowed the greens to gain so much power. He is also mad at all the missed opportunities everyone had to kill the greens and end the war before it started. Honestly if Rhaenyra had just let Daemon take charge from the beginning when she was in labor, the war would have ended before it began and there would have been way less casualties and destruction. But they wasted so much time playing the long game to keep up the pretense of peace only to divide the realm and cause even more death and destruction and the extinction of dragons. Plus Daemon is also grieving as well and he thinks that the greens murdered his brother who he loved the most and he also lost his child. He is also in pain and wants revenge. He was lashing out at everyone because he was restless and he hates not being able to protect his family. Daemon is not good at expressing himself. He is blunt and violent but is not a liar. Daemon was always brutally honest even at his own expense so if he said he's loyal to Rhaenyra and that Jaehaerys' death was a mistake then he's telling the truth.

@@vinogr00nko93 Daemon never said he didn't kill Rhea. When he was accused by her cousin he threatened him for daring to accuse him eventhough everyone knew he did it and inquired about his inheriting house Royce but he never said he didnt do it. Daemon denied killing Laenor because he didn't. Rhaenyra was the one who proposed to Daemon knowing very well that they couldnt wed with him alive. And they knew that Viserys would never grant them a annullment so together all 3 of them agreed and Laenor willingly ran away with his lover for freedom in Essos. Because they all knew that Rhaenyra needed to wed Daemon for protection from the greens and to build up her strength. With Mysaria, he was desperate for Viserys' attention and once Rhaenyra called him out on his bs, he conceded without rebuttal because Daemon isn't a liar who would hold on to fib like that. He only said those thing to get a reaction from Viserys. Clearly you are the one that's watching a different show.

I don't understand how Aegon is a bad person, I don't feel that the character was ever stablished as evil. It's only in this episode that we actually see how Aegon do terrible things out of grief but I don't think that makes it necessarily evil.

Rhaenyra didn't give the order, but she is ultimately responsible. As Star Trek likes to say, "The captain is responsible for the actions of her crew." It was enacted by her nominal subordinate in her name. Perhaps Viserys' greatest flaw is he understood this too well. He knew he was responsible and it led to indecisiveness.

Okay but hear me out. What if Rhaenyra offers King Amon Damon's head for what he did to jaehaerys. Because you're right technically she is responsible, so her saying" I had no part of this I'm not the Kin slayer Damon is." Might be a good start to negotiate peace with the greens. I don't think the show will go in that direction but it would be interesting.

I dont understand why theres a whole section of fans who think alicent is not like first season. Her personality is the same Getting worse with time infact She used to hit aegon even as a teen, and dismissed aemond when he would say he was bullied. For her, her kids getting insulted was a matter of ego, always. And not her feeling angry out of love. Even when aemond's eye is out, or when he gets vhaegar, alicent is more hellbent on revenge and scared about aemond outing her for calling the kids strongs Only person she seems to have affection for is helaena. And i do think partly is she feels some synpathy towards her as she was also forced to marry someone and have his kids to give the kingdom heirs. Also, her being SA'ed by her husband, of course her disdain towards her kids is very natural

Yes, I do believe Alicent has displaced and projected all her distain and contempt for both Visarys and her father onto her children, specifically her sons. I think you're right that she feels sympathy for Healena as she has done the same thing to her daughter that was done to her.

Did Aegon really love Jaehaerys? He couldn't tell his son apart from his daughter, used him as a prop to play loving father in front of the council and to humiliate Tyland. After the murder Aegon raged about himself as king being attacked, not because of injustice to Jaehaerys and his own parental loss. I think Aegon felt even less for Jaehaerys than Otto.

Aegon could tell apart his son, he did it last episode when he was picking up Aegon from Helaena, he was going to reach for his daughter but realised upon seeing her face she wasn't his son. And the whole point of it was that he wanted to bring him to the small council to learn to rule unlike his own father. And what do you mean "prop"? He didn't bring him there to put on an act. And wtf is that last comment comparing to Otto, Aegon was the only person to object to Otto's plan to parade Jaehaerys' corpse He is a terrible person, sure, and an even worse king but at the very least the show did make it apparent that he tried to be good to his son to make up for how his own father treated him like shit, which is more interesting and realistic than a one dimensionally evil dude

I think Aegon wants to be a better father than Viserys was, but he doesn't know what a good parent is because his own never paid him any attention beyond yelling at him, slapping him in the face, ignoring his existence, etc. He's childish and naive. He became a raging alcoholic even as a teenager and was a cruel rapist of servants and an enjoyer of child pit fighting. He was desperate to be seen and loved by his parents but it never happened.

Funnily enough, Rhaenyra technically IS guilty of the murder of Jaeherys. She called for Aemond's head, thereby giving royal authorization to the attempt on his life, regardless of the outcome or what Daemon authorized for a contingency. She shot a bullet at Aemond and it doesn't matter if it hit achild instead- she did, in fact, kill that boy.

  • @ingen_nate_kenny6588
    @ingen_nate_kenny6588Күн бұрын

Thing is that Rhaenyra, by not punishing Daemon, does become complicit in his crime. She could have seized him, announced his crimes to the realm, and executed him. But Rhaenyra's quest for the throne (a legitimate one) takes priority, and Daemon gets off scot-free. It's the same (albeit not as clear-cut morally evil) with Aemond and Lucerys, though the show didn't cover that. There's a lesson in this show: when you are the leader, the people who follow you do evil things and you let them get away with it, you sink into depravity.

If Rhaenyra gave Daemon up, she would've been giving up a value ally and more importantly a dragonrider. The Houses that turned their backs on Rhaenyra's claim were already against her. If Daemon was turned over, Rhaenyra would still be in the same position.
