Chola empire family tree?
To think one author just imagined all of this in his head and now we’re here talking about it as if it was real history that can be picked apart and studied, it’s honestly impressive

He didn't really "create" it though--GoT is wisely known as a kind of European history mash-up. If you want to read something that was wholly created by it's author, try LoTR. Or anything by Tolkien.

GRRM's story loosely follows England's "Wars of the Roses" and prior history. He laid that over his own detailed worldbuilding skill and the dragons made it extra spicy. The Red Wedding was based on a real event as well.
I will finally be able to know how close the Targaryens are to the Habsburgs.

Correction: Jon Snow is sent to the wall but since he had been killed and brought back to life, his "watch has ended". So in the end he moves North of the wall with the wildings. So technically, the Targaryen line might continue among the Wildings.

really cool, but missing a lot of the adjacent descendants, like many of the jaehaerys's children and the great bastards (bloodraven, bittersteel, shiera seastar etc) who played a massive role in the blackfire rebellions

Came here to find a comment like this, or make one if needed. Aegon III married Jaehaera, but she died tragically similar to her mother, Helaena, while still a child. Aegon then marries a Velaryon cousin of Baela and Rhaena (who became an orphan from the Dance) named Daenaera. Aegon and Daenaera are the parents of Daeron, Baelor, Daena, Rhaena and Elaena.

Jon doesn't rejoin the Night's Watch. He goes to live with the Wildlings in exile beyond the Wall.
One thing- it is heavily implied that Aegon IV made up the accusations of his wife's unfaithfulness and the legitimacy of his son, because he hated his son for disagreeing with his actions and preferred his bastard son as heir. Daeron II was probably legitimate
5:55 small note: the Rhoynar are exclusively in Dorne, which Aegon failed to conquer, so one might call this title "aspirational"

Aegon I had a dragon do some wheelies in the Sunspear parking lot, had half his army die in the desert, called it a victory and refused to acknowledge otherwise until the wife he liked was shot down and [insert ominous tidings here].
One, Laena died while still pregnant, we don't know if the baby was alive or dead but she wasn't going to die like her cousin Aemma did and so chose to go like a true dragonrider. She stated earlier in that same episode it was how she wanted to go. Two, it wasn't both her daughters that wanted Vhagar, Baela already had bonded with Moondancer who came from the egg placed in her crib at birth some years ago. Rhaena's egg hadn't yet hatched and so she was planning to claim Vhagar.
I NEEDED THIS I didn’t know I did. But you did and now it’s here and my heart is happy. Surprised happy. Thank you sir
one thing. Aegon III kids mother is not Jaeheara. The mother is a daughter of Vaemond Velaryon

What would have been a cool addition is Rhaenys mother Jocelyn Baratheon, who had dark hair - like all Baratheons - and where they claimed the 'Strong' boys' darker hair came from. And she's either granddaughter or great-granddaughter of Orys Baratheon Edit: spelling.

Another amazing video
Your videos are always an excellent watch.
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
thats so funny I was just watching the other video to get a recap. lol now we got the new video. nice work
Matt, I am a geek when it comes to your wonderful charts. especially the ones with royal lines. I am a huge GoT fan and it makes me so happy that you have made a chart depicting the family trees for this fictional story. As a fan, I most humbly thank you!
This came out of nowhere and I was sooo happy to see it! As someone who's deep in all the theories about the whole things, i think you did a great job. It would be cool to see a book version of this tree and also to see one with all the important families in westeros and essos. It will be infinitely more complex but so so cool! Also, if you include some book happenings, i think more people would see past the superficial portrayal of what happens in the show (I say this in a totally neutral way!) And would totally get hooked on all the theories. Some theories are backed by so much book evidence, that it's sad nobody knows it when just watching the show. Anyways, I love your videos, especially this one!
I vote you add Daenys, the dreamer to the chart. She is the confirmed daughter of Aenar, the exile and sister-wife to Gaemon, the glorious, (but might not have the same mums as it is hinted Aenar had multiple wives). Plus, Jaehaera died mysteriously after the war (might have been thrown of a balcony, might have killed herself) when she was between 9-13 (can't remember), so didn't mother any children. Daeron, Baelor and sisters (3 all kind of important and worth listing on tree with their offspring) are the children of Daenaera (I think) Velaryon, cousin to Baela and Rhaena, who are the ones who introduce her to their little brother/King (Aegon III, Dragonsbane). Then I think you should add Daeron II's sister, Daenaerys and her marriage to Myriah martell's brother. The double marriage is how Dorne joins the seven Kingdoms (& could be one of the causes of the OG Blackfyre rebellion). And I want to see the Great Bastards of Aegon the unworthy, not just the Blackfyres. One of Daemon I Blackfyre's daughters married Bittersteel (children unknown), plus Sheira Seastar & Bloodraven are all v important to era. Then you skip a whole bunch of people. The lore is so vast, if you're going to do a tree, you've got to do it justice.
This was so amazing I needed a refresher before starting house of the dragon season 2!! Thank you!!!
Yea! So glad you did another one of these but new and improved
I literally just finished rewatching the show like half an hour ago and just saw this hahaha

I don't consider anything from the GOT show as cannon. Technically the first 4 season were based cannon material (which is why they are fantastic seasons of television) but even their changes are often weird. And of course, everyone knows how bad season 8 was, but season 5-7 weren't great either. The plot holes were consistently ginormous
Robert Baratheon isn't an "illegitimate Targaryen because of his ancestor Orys". He is a completely legitimate Targaryen because of his grandma Rhaelle Targaryen.
I wasn't going to watch any spoilers but the video was so interesting that I didn't resist and watched anyway.
Oh you’re so real for this
Great job
Excellent !!!
Daenerys wasn't mad, she was angry because her friend died, city burned down because her friend's last words were to burn city down.

I kinda took the end as John Snow going to live north of the wall, with ghost and his wildling friends
good work, appreciate the content. Unlike most ancillary contents that is just a time waste.
Awesome
ok I think it’s brilliant how you worked an advertisement into a genealogical chart presentation.
Other changes that should be added are the following: 1. Aegon, Visenya and Rhaenys were the children of Valaena Velaryon 2. Aenys was married to Alyssa Velaryon thus she was the mother of Jaehaerys and Alysanne. Alyssa remarried to Rogar Baratheon and they had 2 children - Jocelyn and Boremund Baratheon. Jocelyn married Prince Aemon and thus the mother of Princess Rhaenys the Queen who never was. 3. Aegon III indeed married Jaehaera but she died young and without issue and thus he later married Daenaera Velaryon who waa the mother of Daeron, Baelor, Daena, etc.
Rhaegar also married a Elia Martell and had 2 children. There was a lot missing from the books from this tree... Still enjoyed the video!
Yay! Season 2
I hear that the next GOT series will be about Duncan & Egg & I'm looking forward to that!
This is cool
As soon as you said “let’s see how all this connects” all I could think was “circle.”
I think I memorised the list of targaryen kings from wtaching this content a lot , and they're not much only 17 kings , plus some princes and pretenders like Rheanyra & Blackfyres , btw team Green for the one true King Aegon 💚💚👑
THANK YOU! This was such an informative and clear explanation! I haven't read the books and I was kinda confused. So if Maester Aemon hadn't died and WANTED the throne, was he indeed the rightful heir to the throne over Daenerys? I really liked this and hope you will continue adding to it. Are there other households you've done? Subscribing to check out any other videos. TY again!👏
Nice
This is great, but there are two minor mistakes that I noticed: -Lyanna doesn't just disappear. She died (later revealed to be from giving birth to Jon) and was buried in the Crypts under Winterfell, which is actually a pretty big deal because Robert is introduced visiting her grave and she's literally the only Stark who wasn't Lord of Winterfell to get a statue down there, because Ned loved her that much. -Robert *does* have a tiny amount of Targaryen blood from the founder of his house being Aegon I's bastard brother, but he also has a much stronger link through his grandmother. Robert's father Steffon's mother was Princess Rhaelle, daughter of Aegon V Targaryen.
It will be amazing if there would be a prequel to hotd where it shows the valyria
Greatest video ever for the fans of song of ice and fire
Just a note, Heleana and Daeron have dragons too. Helaena have appeared once on the background and we will yet to meet Daeron's.

It would be really interesting if you made a video examining the two different lines of succession at the point where Viserys dies, based on the succession laws each side advocates for (agnatic primogeniture for the Greens, and absolute primogeniture for the Blacks).
Jaerharys and Alyssanne had like 13 children not just four. That's why it's so crazy none of them succeeded him.
Wow! Just when I'm starting on GOT.
A fun addition would have been to include Brynden Rivers (Bloodraven), bastard son of Aegon IV, who would eventually become the Three-Eyed Raven.
Excellent video, as usual. I'd just add that aegon II had a third child, maelor.

Not confirmed in the show yet
Great chart. One point for book readers…Stannis Baratheon is still alive in the most recent book.
This seems like a dare i say... Useful Chart
Jon wasn't the last Targ, nor is the line over with. Gendry is the last, and being a handsome, strong, young ruler of the Stormlands, no doubt he had children.
I was thinking, do you think you could do a chart of the history and types of sausage? Like the German lines and the Italian lines, creole? I would love that chart.
Error at 06:36, Jaehaerys (or the Lords at the council of 101) had to choose between Viserys and Laenor, not Rhaenys. The show just worded it strangly to make up an conflict of female and male.
I want a more in depth tree video. I sat down the other day and traced where cousins could be in other houses etc
I once tried to put them into Ancestry, out of curiosity. I think I just about broke it.
There's also hints that the Blackfyres didn't go extinct and that the POV character in the books (that did not appear in the show) Aegon (who is claimed to be the son of Rhaegar and his wife Elia Martell) is actually a Blackfyre descendant (possibly by his mother and Illyrio Mopatis), some theorize that Varys may also be a Blackfyre.
@JaredB027
10 күн бұрын
this video seems to focus on the show version of events (although including history that isn't exactly explained in full in the show from the books). So aegon in the books doesn't exist here and thus no info about the blackfyre's surviving (although ofc i agree with the theory that aegon is a blackfyre)
CORRECTION (SPOILERS below): Aegon III was betrothed to Jaehaera, yes, but she kills herself two years after the Dance ends. Only age 10. Aegon instead marries Daenaera Velaryon, granddaughter of Vaemond. They produce Daeron and Baelor.

I can remember more about the ending of Game of Thrones through sheer cultural osmosis than I can about shows I've actually finished.
I don't think Jon actually rejoined the Night's Watch. He, Tormund and Tormund's folk are seen going through the gate in the Wall and walking off beyond the Wall into the North. I'm pretty sure that means he joined the Free Folk, not the Night's Watch.
The blackfyres died out by the male line, but still surviving from the female line.
CAUTION: This video had inaccuracies. Aegon the Younger married Daenaera Velaryon because spoiler: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jaehera ends her life. Otto's line basically becomes extinct after the dance smh people
I swear, you'd need a PhD in Underwater Basket weaving to unravel the Targaryan line.
Lyanna Stark didn't just disappear. It's explained repeatedly in both season 1 of game of Thrones and the first few chapters of the book by the same name that she died 15 years before the events of the main story. It's also hinted at a lot in both books and show that Jon is the child of Rhaegar and Lyanna. Additionally, Jon is no longer bound by his night's watch vows and may well father children north of the wall, who will be legitimate if he has said marriage vows in front of a weirwood tree to their mother.
Yes!!!
15:08 One mistake here: in the show they skipped the generation of Jaehaerys II, so Aerys II is the son of Aegon V, instead of the grandson. Also, from what I know, it's never made clear precisely who's siblings Rhaelle ends up being, more likely Aegon V's.
Can you do a video on the knuckles the echidna family tree from Archie comics?
It’s also worth mentioning that Aegon IV legitimised all of his bastards on his deathbed, including Daemon Blackfyre, which is why he was able to justify his rebellion. There’s also another character who I think should be on this tree. One of Aegon IV’s many bastards was actually in the show. His name is Brynden Rivers, aka Bloodraven. He later becomes the Three Eyed Crow who Bran meets North of the Wall. His rivalry with his other half brother Aegor Rivers (Bittersteel) is part of what caused the Blackfyre rebellions. Bloodraven stood by Daeron and Bittersteel convinced Daemon to rebel.
You forgot Baratheon had the dragon blood thanks to Egg's daughter
Aegon III and Jaehaera were married, but never had any children. Aegon III had children with his second wife Daenaera Velaryon. And in the books Stannis and his daughter Shireen are very much alive. Let's were George R. R. Martin will take us in the next parts.

Somehow, I new this was coming...
The show cut Jaehaerys II (I think they folded his short reign into Aerys II's, making 'Egg' the father of Aerys, rather than his grandfather- & thus Aemon was generationally closer to Jon & Dany in the show, than he is in the book) - personally, I prefer to ignore that change...
Love the video but in the show universe, King Jaeherys II doesn’t exist. When Aemon is revealing himself to Sam; he says that Aegon (his brother) became King and then Aegon’s son Aerys. I guess you can say that he was misremembering things, but still he says it. Fantastic video, love your channel.
It would be great to add a section on rumored connections .. there are several who believe the Tully line (via Katlyn’s mother’s side the Whent family) are descendants of Aemond (Alicent’s son) and a woman named Alys Rivers who’s son’s lineage is eventually House Whent. If that’s true then the prince who was promised prophecy ends up being true as Arya would be descended from Aemond Targaryen 🤯
Note: while the Baratheon line descends from a Targaryen bastard, Robert's Grandmother was a legitimate Targaryen (Daughter of Aegon 5).
19;06 just as he planned to happen when he became the three eyed raven.

Alicent Hightower's Moders name have been reveled on the official website and in season 2 episode 1. It's: Alerie Florent
Ancestry style percentages: Aenar had Gaemon and Daenys, who married. Gaemon and Daenys had Aegon and Elaena, who married. They had Maegon and Aerys, Aerys took an unknown wife, but it is almost certain he would not have married outside his house at this time, similarly his son Daemion. Daemion had Aerion, who married Valaena Velaryon, whose mother was a Targaryen. All of this line therefore was 100% Old Valyrian. Aegon had children exclusively with his siblings, so they shared his genetic heritage in its entirety. This means that both Aenys I and Maegor I were 100% Old valyrian Aenys married Alyssa Velaryon, who was 100% Old Valyrian through exclusively Targaryen and Valyrian descent. This means that Jaehaerys I was also 100% Old Valyrian His children, Baelon and Alyssa married, and had two children, Viserys I and Daemon, both of whom therefore were 100% old Valyrian. Aegon II was 50% Westerosi and 50% Old Valyrian. (half Hightower) Rhaenyra I was 25% Westerosi, and 75% Old Valyrian Aegon III was 87.5% Old Valyrian and 12.5% Westerosi and he married Daenaera Velaryon, who was 50% westerosi and 50% Old Valyrian This means that his children Baelor I and Daeron I 31.5% Westerosi and 68.5% Old Valyrian. The throne then passed to the brother of Aegon III, because of the youthful deaths of his children, once again we find ourselves at 87.5% Old Valyrian and 12.5% Westerosi. He married a woman of fully lysian family. His son, Aegon IV was 50% Lysene, 43.7437% Old Valyrian, 6.2563% Westerosi, as was his sister wife, Naerys. Daeron II therefore was also 50% Lysene, 43.7437% Old Valyrian, 6.2563% Westerosi. Daemon Blackfyre, the legitimised bastard of Aegon IV from his first cousin, Deana Targaryen, was 25% Lysene, 65.6217% Old Valyrian, 9.3781% Westerosi. Daeron married Mariah Martell, meaning that: Aerys II was 25% Lysene, 21.8718% Old Valyrian, 3.1281% Westerosi and 50% Dornish. The throne passed to his brother, Maekar I, 25% Lysene, 21.8718% Old Valyrian, 3.1281% Westerosi and 50% Dornish. He married Dyanna Dayne, who had mainly Dornish ancestry Aegon V: 12.5% Lysene, 10.9359% Old Valyrian, 1.564% Westerosi and 75% Dornish. He married Betha Blackwood. Jaehaerys II: 6.25% Lysene, 5.4679% Old Valyrian, 50.782% Westerosi and 37.5% Dornish. He married his sister, Shaera, meaning that his children shared his genetic heritage. Aerys II: 6.25% Lysene, 5.4679% Old Valyrian, 50.782% Westerosi and 37.5% Dornish. SPLIT IN SUCCESSION: Danaerys Targaryen: 6.25% Lysene, 5.4679% Old Valyrian, 50.782% Westerosi and 37.5% Dornish. Robert Baratheon: 1.8068% Old Valyrian, 1.5625% Lysene, 9.375% Dornish, and 87.2557% Westerosi. Aegon Targaryen (Jon Snow): 3.125% Lysene, 2.7339% Old Valyrian, 75.391% Westerosi and 18.75% Dornish.
Chapters would’ve been nice, just sayin’.
We finally got our Targaryen family tree, boys.
Robert is also grandson of a targeryan
Just to point out that the Targaryans also married a cousin Velaryon when they did not have a sister available. Aenys Tarygary married a Velaryon and also the father of Aegon the Conqueror. So it is pretty much Cousin-Sister-Cousin-Sister and so goes on until Viserys II (who probably married a distant relative because she was also Valyria descendent). I believe they only married a not relative 3 times in history.
