The Atreides could inspire loyalty, the Harkonnens just induced fear. The Atreides is higher quality. They did not want the throne. The emperor provoked them into fight. Sometimes it is not a good idea. If the once oppressed enemy is talented and overcompensate, the former ruler is crushed. The tatars learned that from Russia, half Europe from Prussia.

@@mikloscsuvar6097 yeah it had a gang that barely worked together and hated each other in both world wars. Austria and Germany had fought multiple conflicts prior to WW1 and were really only allied by the fact they both hated Russia and the French.

As a Scots gal, I immensely enjoyed hearing bagpipes in a big film. I've never felt a surge of energy like that before at the pictures. The pipes are such an undervalued instrument, especially for this type of effect.

Which is basically what the Setting was but it does lean on the Islamic part, the Empire in Dune is what happens when you combine the HRE, The British Empire, the Persian Empires and the Ottomans together and put them into Space in the Middle of the Rise of Islam.

​@@julienamand4472 Its kinda funny, Since It tells that the atreides brought disaster, and then the later books Inform you that they were better than the alternative, which was extinction. Its a paradox that Leto the 2nd was Incredibly noble and willing to sacrifice himself, but also anyone else.

@@julienamand4472 I don't think there is an obliged moral in Dune. I read the first tome a few years ago and just saw historical politics with serious stakes. Dune isn't the Bible. If someone want to read it in a nationalistic way, they can and they won't necessarily pass by the meaning of the book. Really sorry if my english isn't correct...

Interesting that the Atreides color scheme seemed to relate to Islamic dynasties. Black is usually synonymous with the Abbasid Caliphate. Green was used extensively, particularly by the Ottomans, Safavid, and Mughal. The red eagle of House Atreides seemed reminiscent of the Eagle of Saladin which if I'm not mistaken is red on the background of yellow.

Canonically, House Atriedes has always "claimed" to trace it's ancestry back to the ancient Greek warrior Agamemnon. The truth of this claim is unknowable, as the location of Ancient Earth has long been lost since the War of The Machines and the Butlerian Jihad. In real life, the Latin name for Scotland was "Caledonia", and in Dune, the Atreides homeworld is called "Caladan". Finally, the bagpipe in one form or another has existed across almost every European culture since the late Bronze Age. It is believed that the Imperial Romans brought it to Brittania when they conquered it.

Interestingly bagpipes actually appear in many cultures, including ancient Greece, to which the Atreides trace themselves. Sadly we never hear bagpipes in historically themed music for them, because it doesn't fit the hollywood image
