In this quick tip, I'll go over how to quickly select the first and last primitive, point, vertex, etc. using a group node. If you've been trying to figure out how to use $N in Houdini without any luck, this video is for you.

wouldn't be easier to just use a Group Range sop with: Start 1, End 1 and Invert Range active?

Yes. That is another way to do it. However, this is mostly for people who are used to $N and want to continue that workflow.

Actually, that wouldn't be procedural, if you were to change the number of points before it, using a resample for eg, it wouldn't select the same points/prims as if you used `npoints("0")-1.
