I moved as a single person to San Antonio for a job 14 years ago this April from Los Angeles. I would not move to any of the communities mentioned in this video as a single person. I still never go out there because there's nothing special about it. I moved close to downtown where all the action is. My house is inside Loop 410. I met my husband downtown and we still live near downtown. Where we are is the best place to live when you don't have kids. So many places to enjoy in Southtown, St. Mary's Strip, etc. Everyone I know who lives at Loop 1604 or outside never goes downtown and knows very little about all the great restaurants, bars, and happenings downtown. Out on 1604 and beyond it feels like any other place in the country. To really experience what makes San Antonio unique you have to live close to the heart of the city.

I’ve lived in San Antonio my entire life and I can’t agree more with you! I grew up in a suburb that he talked about . Yes it has its perks like schools. However I chose to buy a house inside 410 closer to downtown and I’m so much happier. There is less traffic, getting around the city is so convenient and a lot of San Antonio culture and history is centered around downtown and neighborhoods close to the city.

I think you’re seeing San Antonio through rose colored glasses. I first moved to San Antonio in 1996 and loved it. It is unrecognizable now. There are just too many people and too much development which lead to killer traffic. You’re enamored of the far west side and it looks wonderful in your aerial shots and it sounds ideal to have all those shops and restaurants you rave about. But there’s so much traffic it’s hard to get in and out of those lovely shopping centers, especially near Alamo Ranch. And as far as getting to work in 30-45 minutes, you better work pretty close to home to accomplish that. Every weekday morning it takes a good 15 minutes or more just to go from Bandera Road to I-10 on Loop 1604! It’s only 7 miles or less. I got fed up and fled to the coastal bend 5 years ago and only go to San Antonio a few times a year to visit family.

If you're use to a slower paced environment than yes you are right. San Antonio is not as bad as other big cities though as far as traffic and population.

I like your informative videos. I'm surprised that you didn't include the NE side up by Walzem. We've been here since we had our home built during hurricane Katrina, and pride ourselves for staying alive as long as we have. I can finally distinguish the difference between the sound of fireworks and firearms. I just can't figure out why you're keeping the Glen a secret from all the people interested in moving to San Antonio. I mean, you haven't really lived until you and your dog have been mauled by pitbulls. There are good emergency veterinary hospitals in this town, but who knew human rabies shots cost as much as a new truck? The past 16 years have been an eye opening adventure, and the people of San Antonio make it all the more special. LOL Keep up the good work. ;)

I know people who reside in Castroville or the Medina Lake area and commute to S.A. for work thus you better know how to navigate your way around bumper to bumper traffic along Culebra, Alamo Ranch and Highway 151 intersection by the shopping centers. There's hidden gems places to live in Bexar County you just gotta look outside the box. Don't be a individual that follows trends, good informative video by far.

I've lived in SA my whole life, and for younger buyers I'd really recommend some of the condos being built in the Alamo Heights area. It's an older neighborhood with a lot of prestige where it can be hard to find new homes for sale for a reasonable price, but the new condo developments provide a great way to still get in on the lifestyle inside 410. I've spent most of my life in this area specifically and it really is a whole different feel to being outside 1604. That being said, if I had to live outside 1604, I'd probably pick Helotes as I feel it's got the most culture.

Major point on your first choice - the Far North Side. Yes - it’s all of the things you mentioned - but it’s also the WORSE traffic in all of San Antonio. Don’t believe - drive on 1604/281 anytime between 4-6. What should take 10 minutes - can take an 45 minutes. LOTS of construction, lots of cars do not make for easy traveling. 1604 is going to go thru a major update south of 281 all the way to I-10 - Expect the next few years to be hell (just like it was from 6 Flags to Boerne. Eventually, they will fix it - but while they are doing it - it’s an area to avoid if you need to commute.

  • @SanAntonioTexasLiving

Yeah, traffic is definitely wild on 281 right now and that stretch on 1604 between 10 & 281 feels like rush hour no matter what time of day it is. I know it'll be great when it's done, but for now we wait...

  • @SanAntonioTexasLiving

It's tough to see that far into the future, but I'd bet money that TX will be a hot spot well into the future. The crazy competition and appreciation we're seeing in the current market definitely isn't sustainable though, so I do expect prices to level off at some point, but even the timing on that is hard to predict. It'll be interesting to see how thing play out!

In SA It's more about choosing the right school district than individual schools. The Northside ISD, Northeast Side ISD, Alamo Heights ISD, and Judson ISD's are some of the best in San Antonio. If you're in any of those districts I'm sure you'll be very happy with all levels of schools there, although some of the most notable high schools in the city are Harlan HS, Reagan HS, Clark HS, and Johnson HS. We'd be happy to have a more in depth conversation anytime if you'd like to connect. Happy to be a resource😎.
