"You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave"
This song literally saved my life. Growing poor in Mexico, we didn't have much, but my dad kept a temperamental Ford Mustang that was way past its prime. On the night I got a scorpion sting on my neck, was the one night the car decided to work. I was losing consciousness and in full-blown panic attack, when my mom started playing this song. To keep me calm, my mom started singing this song because she know I would sing along, so I did. I managed to keep along until I fainted, just in time as we arrived at the hospital. That was 25 years ago. I still thank this song for saving my life.
I can't believe this song doesn't have a music video. The lyrics are perfect for a story told through a music video.
People don't realize how much of a compliment saying "you have an old person's music taste" is
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. You can never go wrong with the Eagles.
My Dad used to listen to this when I was a kid. He had been in Vietnam, and he was hurting during those years trying to put it behind him. He told me this song was about the war, and for years I believed that. Some of the lyrics made sense and the way he explained it seemed plausible. I found out years later that this song was about different themes, mostly with "the high life in Los Angeles" as the Eagles themselves said. It just goes to show how song lyrics can mean different things to different people, and no way of interpreting a song is wrong. Listening to it seemed to give my Dad some measure of peace back then, so I'm glad that's what he always thought it was about. So thanks Dad for introducing me to this song. Every time I hear it I think of you and what you went through over there for our country. RIP Dad....
My dad said I have the music taste of an old man and that’s what lead me here I’m not even disappointed
One of the greatest songs of all times. Henley’s vocals, lyrics and one of the greatest guitar solos ever performed. CLASSIC!
Without a doubt, this is one of the best songs of the 70s. The depth and beauty of the melody; and if we add the lyrics; they turn it into a masterpiece. The electric guitar solo towards the end is something masterful.
The song with the best solo in the history.
Welcome back, this isn't your first time here.
This song was written during a time when artists poured their heart & soul into their craft! A timeless classic that will outlive us all. RIP Glen.
The greatest Guitar solo of all time. Simplicity of the music and story telling😊 is a masterpiece.
350,000,000 BC anyone?
The guitar solo is so perfect that it gives me an explosion of emotions when listening to it
On a dark desert highway
My mom told me that she played this song over and over and over again when I was born, she told me I changed her life from that moment on. My wife just recently gave birth to our son and I can't stop listening to this over and over and over again.
Eagle is still standing strong and still rock on
Coming back from viewing my fathers body at the morgue this song was the first to come on. It’s what I play when I feel empty. He died at 3:15am. Woke up out my sleep with these lyrics in my head at
