I must be wrong, because all the positive feedback below suggests that I am. But, seriously.... awful camera work, awful acting, awful plot, awful eveything. 10/10? Best short film ever? Had me crying? Were you all drunk or drugged up?

How are people not seeing that he pushed him in the water to intentionally kill him. He was standing between him being the other guys best friend. He says he can't swim, over and over, but pushes him, then, when he's caught, hesitates before even jumping in. That was no accident, he murdered him.

He DID say he couldn't swim! WTF? Why did he push him anyway? Or at least where's the torment and anguish for what he did?

That wasn't an accident, he realized that he was in the way of being the other guys best friend and intentionally pushed him in, knowing he would drown.

So let me get this straight. The guy who can’t swim did tell you he can’t swim. He even explained why he can’t swim and you what, didn’t believe him. Blaming the other guy who would have to predict the future, for not giving you a heads up before the hike up? Really?

At least that would have added a surprise twist to the story. As it is it was too predictable. Chris should have wondered more about what had happened - and we shouldn`t have known what had happened - until they finally talked, and Chris confronted Spence about his suspicions. From the scene where Spence pushed John, it also appeared more like Spence intentionally wanted to kill John because he felt he monopolized Chris. So I am still not sure if Spence is supposed to be full of regret over what he did - or if he just pretends to be, while in fact he has gotten away with murder, and now has Chris all to himself. The latter would make him a psychopath - the former for the scene and lines where John got pushed to have to be re-written. And if the gay element you mentioned had been included in Chris` suspicions - and the scene that here was the actual incident, instead had been one of many scenarios Chris envisioned in his head, wondering what had happened - that would have added another suspense element to the story - of what Chris` reaction would be, should he discover Spence was sexually attracted to him. And that he possibly even killed John because he was jealous of the time John spent with Chris. As an idea this wasn`t bad at all. But the script needed a little more tightening and structure, the camera a proper tripod and a few more angles and distances to enable a better editing process - but the sound was remarkably good for such a shoestring budget amateur production.

You are not making your living as a casting director, are you? Neither am I. But I still know that this was at best okay. Non of it was remarkable, some of it worked - but other parts left a lot to be desired in regard to interaction and exposing true emotions. Not saying that these lads don`t have talent - only that they both should have polished the script a bit more, rehearsed the scenes better and included a few non-verbal facial reactions to help bring the story forward. Like when Chris accused Spence of deliberately having pushed John, or when he accused him of not caring, a reaction in Spence`s face. Either fear of being exposed and accused, shock his friend could accuse him, hurt Chris could think that about him - any little non-verbal expression that helped us viewers get a little insight into Spence`s true feelings, would have improved the dialogue parts massively. It is also unclear (to me at least) if Spence is genuine when he claims to be troubled about John`s death - or if he just says what he think he has to say, and in fact has gotten away with murder, and John`s death was not an accident, but an intentional act. Spence`s quite hopeless attempts at administering first aid after having gotten John out of the water, suggest the latter. Which again brings us to the question of motive. Why did Spence see John as such a threat he decided to kill him? As it is, this short leaves more questions hanging in thin air, than it answers.

this story doesn`t make sense at all ... the pusher wouldn´t be out there to reminisce on what he did because he would be in jail for manslaugher at least ... but there are quite strong indications that this wasn´t an accident ... ! the acting is a bit over the top but pretty good for kids their age ...
