Really long road trips would be much less enjoyable if we paid what you do for fuel. I just checked current prices, and once you convert capacity and currency, you are paying an average of $6.96 for a gallon of gas, where our average today is $3.15. I love a good road trip, but I wish we had better public transport so we had a viable option for long distance travel.

This Betty White series was awesome. In 1978 I went to Senior Prom in my dad's 70 Caddy. Pretty much the same car as yours except it had the 500 motor and was a light gold color. Fender skirts were present and a kinda tall fella and a fellette could almost strettttttttccccccchhhhhh out in the back seat for a "nap!" That rig would get up to 90 without even trying. The best riding car I've ever been in, seemed like you were literally floating down the road at 90+ (sorry dad!). Looks like the Hot Rod Power Tour was awesome!

Derek, Jessica, and boys, thanks for taking us along on this tour! Very enjoyable. Lots of cool vehicles everywhere! Betty White is sure remarkable, although I cringe every time you smoke show, and burn off layers of rubber, on those nice old cars you resurrect. Seems like uneeded wear, tear, and stress, on the old machines. Will we see Betty White, getting repairs on those chunked out body spots up front? Oh, and I hope there are plans to fix or dress up those front lights on old red, white, blue? Thanks again! That was kind of you to take us along. Great idea with passing out the hot wheels et al, to the kids, along the way! Betty did great in the drag, that was fantastic too! Cheers from Southern New Hampshire!

One relay trick that I do when those old relays go bad is just convert it to the newer style Bosch 5 pin relay. They're very cheap, reliable, and readily available. You can even buy the pigtails at some part stores. Either splice it in and get rid of the old relay all together or get a small pack of 1/4" male flat terminals and you can plug it in without cutting into the factory harness

@@majcrash the 40 should do it but you won't have much room left over. Id say they draw about 7-8 a per window so about 30 then have a spike of 40 when the windows go all the way up. That factory relay was probably only rated for 30a

It has been so much fun to see Derek and his lovely family on this roadtrip. A nice guy with a nice family and a good old car on a roadtrip and for 4 entertaining episodes the world is all right again. Just experienced the loss of my step father who was also my best friend from leukomia after a long and painful sickbed, and this roadtrip cheered me up and gave me some hope again. A big thankyou from a fellow USA car lover from the country of the Netherlands and the beatiful city of Arnhem. God bless Derek and his family and god bless America. Kind greetings from Henry.

I gotta hand it to a feller. Your wife and kids are real troopers. Had I taken that trip with my crew, there would've been a few death threats and at least one threat of divorce. And I'd need therapy. Enjoyed taking the trip with you Derek(I'm only kidding about ALL the threats. Are you paying attention KZread?)

I had a 1941 Chevy and drove it from KS to St. Louis MO years ago. It made it all the way to the outskirts of town when it started cutting out on me. I had it towed the rest of the way. There was a brand new filter in the line near the carb, but in the back by the tank was the original filter, and it was in there for a long time. I bypassed it with a rubber hose and all was good.

The number of times my parents piled my siblings and I into a '63 Studebaker Lark Daytona ragtop for extended trips proved to me that the modern farkles take away, rather than add to the trip. Dang, a fella misses his folks and trips like that. Boys, cherish these times.

"There's no NOISE in Illinois." There was an antique tractor show going on 15 miles north of Champaign your family would have enjoyed if you'd have showed up a day earlier. Kids get in free. We toss out club badges to little kids as our tractor drive passes their driveway. What a memory you just made with your family. What a hoot to get a picture of Betty White sitting in the driver's seat of this car....

I caught up on this and I have to say what a beauty! I kept thinking, there she was neglected and abandoned in a muddy swampy field to being a show piece everybody wanted to see. These were the cars from my era, my parents owned some tuna boats when I was a child. Theses are the classics in my opinion.
