Honestly the most fun I had was wandering around Tokyo at 2am drinking hot Boss coffee (the rainbow can was my fave) and going to 24 hour ramen shops. I really miss the hot drink machines from my time in Japan. There's something special about grabbing a hot coffee or cocoa to warm up your hands while out and about on a cold winter day. Of course, the food I miss most is ramen from a tiny place next to my train stop. One of those hole-in-the-wall places that are easy to miss, but I'm glad I tried it one time. Not a big menu or anything, just amazing ramen (typically got it with chashu or these thin triangles of slightly sweet, fried tofu) for cheap.

@@666Shinedown I've never seen one on the streets in the US (as opposed to in mall food courts and large office buildings, where I have occasionally seen hot drinks), but the largest city I've spent much time in is about 450K and fairly spread out. I imagine they may be more common in some denser city centers and places designed to encourage foot traffic, while the lower density areas discourage pedestrian traffic in general. In Japan where most areas are very densely populated, things are set up assuming lots of people will be walking, so the vending machines on the streets get plenty of business that they just wouldn't over here. It's a very different style of life; can't say whether it's better or worse since it has its downsides as well, but I do miss some things about it.

Dude the food from convenience stores in japan like 7-11 and Lawson is freaking delicious, oh they have hot food bars near the counter and the fried chicken there is hella good, problem is you typically don't stay in japan long enough to try all the food in the convenience stores since you'll eat out at restuarants too. Also food from different stores, area , and chains are all different apart from the staples so you can go to two store a block apart and find different things/specials. They're very big on variety over there. I've known colleagues who got transfered to a japan office for a month or two and they live of conbini store foods since its generally dirt cheap and better than what they could ever cook themselves.

Corporations in the US have trained Americans really well. We pay more than other countries and expect less in return. Just about every convenience store in the Philippines has great fried chicken and other hot foods. In the US you get questionable foods like hot dogs and pizza warmed by a light.

The U.S. simply doesn't have a high standards when it comes to food, so I doubt the vending machine foods in the U.S. would taste good. Unless those vending machines are own and operated by Asian. And defintely do not place vending machines in urban neighborhood, it'll get destroy and vandalized daily. Not worth it.

Bro America especially in Las Vegas has vending machines like this. You gotta remember that the US is HUGE compared to Japan so most of this stuff is only in certain areas.

@@pizzarollking4397 I live in Vegas and our vending machine here is crap. Vegas is known for buffets so it's actually more worth it to pay a little more for a buffet that offers wide varieties of selection than eat at a vending machine. Some cheap buffets are only $7.99 and you can eat as much as you want vs spending $4, $5 on a single item in vending machines.
