Great video. Never occurred to me to fish Tahoe. Such a massive lake, but watching you be successful out there gives me a desire to go out there and give it a try. Did you try a Kastmaster while you were out there? What do you think about a sinking bobber with a streamer or a wholly-bugger tied on??

@@Memo-nd6fj I've fished all around it for years but never fished in Lake Tahoe itself until my videos. I guess too massive! Going to hit it a lot more! I saw a local using a Kastmaster. He told me he gets big Mackinaws, Browns, and Rainbows from shore on those and spoons when it's cold.

@@Memo-nd6fj I don't know how much snow is in the mountains. Going to give it a shot next week. I got fish in Tahoe right off the 89 about 4 miles from Tahoe City but a lot of snags and tough to land fish due to rocks. Donner Lake is Easy. I'm just going to start hitting nearby reservoirs this year.

you seem to be one lucky son-of-a-gun.in summer I see very few fish in that area on my fish finder. congrats you make it look too easy

I typically avoided Tahoe in the middle of the Summer. This clip was the second week of October. This was the first year I even tried fishing Lake Tahoe from shore. Fished all around it since the late 80's but never in the Lake itself. So far, it's been great with a couple of exceptions. I have clips up for all 7 or 8 attempts I've made. Got fish in 6 of them. Spring and Fall were nice. Winter is good too if you can find a spot where you aren't crawling around on giant ice covered boulders! I have a lot more exploring to do this spring!

I have fished from shore -Cave Rock and Rubicon Point caught nothing.throwing cast Masters and panther Martins.I guess I need to bring the bait and the beer and wait it out.ha

Hey, there's nothing wrong with lounging! I actually plan to throw lures next time if the bait fishing isn't producing. I have found the best action comes when the sun if off the water.

The truth is, I only started doing that recently because I had a half of a spool left over because I tried it as my main line in rivers and it simply was too stiff to give me the range I like when I was whipping my jigs out there on me light tackle. I should mention it because the 6lb fluorocarbon leader works great with the 8lb mono I use as my main line.

I know a lot spawn in the tributaries but I do believe some are and have been stocked. There are a lot of nice rainbows to be had right off shore. You just have to earn them because of the mine field of massive boulders under the water! I have a bunch of Lake Tahoe clips on my reservoir and lakes playlist. Glad you subscribed and all of the content situated on my playlists is just the beginning.

I believe the only native trout is the Lahonton trout. Rainbow is definitely introduced to Lake Tahoe.

You basically have to pay attention the entire time while you are out there or else there could be a disaster! No matter how hot the fishing gets or if your rod is getting bit hard and you want to get over there, you can't rush! Frustrating at times!

I want to get back down there only after I know there is no ice! That was tough to balance on when it was dry! Thanks for checking it out.

I was paddling at chimney beach in July and saw a huge trout surface near my kayak. When I paddle through there next season I plan to troll a spoon behind me and see what I can get!

Great vid. as always, glad you got your dinner. I struck out getting up to the Eastern Sierras all season due to Covid and fires. Was wondering if you could answer a question? Never fished Tahoe and was planning on heading up there, have you fished areas around the lake with a little easier accessibility my wife had a procedure on her knee, and the rock hopping around Chimney Beach would definitely not fly for her, although I probably could park her in a casino and she probably won't get to mad. Any info would be greatly appreciated, keep doing what your doing, stay safe, tight lines.

I have only explored and fished the 4 spots I have clips up for. My clip up that I shot off the 89 wasn't bad as far as access goes. There Is a bike path that runs along the lake there and it is only feet from the road. The spot I was fishing, there were still large boulders to contend with but you could walk right up to them and the lake was on the other side. That spot was about 3 miles down from where the 89 begins to follow the lake. I saw a spot with a little beach and parallel parking before that on the 89 but people swim there so it might not be an option until it gets really cold. I think you could work something out with a little scouting for an appropriate spot. I have fished the lake 4 times in areas far away from one another and have had success. Every time I go, I'm not sure what I am going to find. If you can find a place with easy access and at least 10-15 feet a water, I say give it a shot. Just get out there at the crack of dawn before people show up. Good luck I want to hit the Truckee off the 89 again soon. I need to make sure the Campgrounds are closed and the rafters are gone before I do though.

As mentioned never fished Tahoe, or surrounding area. Time to expand my horizons after fishing the Eastern Sierras and So. Cal. lakes for so many seasons. Another good spot with easy access is Cave Rock State Park. It is paved, has a boat ramp, and you can fish from the sidewalk.

Very nice catches! I have learned a lot by watching your videos. I wonder whether you got all three fishs from the powerbait or big one from the power bait and smaller ones from the jig? Were you doing the sink rig for the powerbait because I don't see you have mentioned a float or bobber? How much length do you keep between the hook and the sinker? In another word, how would you know the depth of the zone where you can get most baits for lake Tahoe. I am very new for fishing hence have a lot questions. Appreciate you have put out lots of informative videos out.

My clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "my general strategy for deep water reservoir trout" both have overlapping information and go into detail about how I approach cold weather trout fishing in general. The difference here is, it's not that cold yet but Lake Tahoe stays cold enough to have the fish come in still. In those videos, I talk about using a 4 foot leader but for Lake Tahoe, the 4 spots I have tried required very far casting so I shorten my leader for powerbait to around 3 feet and only around 2 feet for the full inflated crawler. I get big fish on both. For the powerbait, I use a tiny size 18 treble hook and use a small piece of powerbait just big enough to completely cover the rigidity of the hook. I feel it makes a difference when it comes to getting the larger fish to take it. I have a number of "how to clips" that are aimed at taking people from the store to the water's edge. I also have several reservoir fishing clips where , sometimes, I discuss my strategy for the given situation. I hope this information helps. My clips "My general technique for deep water reservoir trout" and "Rigging up for reservoir trout" both show in detail how I rig up when I'm bait fishing for trout. Both clips have overlapping info. I have a clip "building a trout tackle box" that will feature all of the tackle you need. For Powerbait, I prefer to use a tiny size 18 treble hook to keep the presentation as small as possible. For Lake Tahoe, I use larger 1/2 OZ slip sinkers and shorten my leaders a bit because you usually need to be able to cast of far to reach the deeper water. I did not get snagged in the rocks other than have larger fish swim me right into the ones close to shore! When reeling in to check your bait, hold your rod up high and reel in fast. Do not pause! When fighting a larger fish, keep your rod tip high and hope they don't swim you into the giant boulders. There are a lot of boulders in this area but the fishing is really good. Chimney Beach probably has a lot of ice on the rocks right now. I did not try the beach area though so I'm not sure what that is like. Cave Rock State Park has fairly easy access. Basically, try to find a spot with no ice on the rocks so you don't fall in or get hurt. Good luck!

How I rig up, what I use, it's all on my fishing tips playlist. I fish inflated crawlers on one pole and powerbait on the other. Very early morning is best. All of my luck there has been down the shore from the actual beach because it's really shallow there. Look at my clip "rigging up for reservoir trout" and then bump the slip sinker up to 1/2 OZ and shorten the leaders as needed to allow for far casting out to the deepest water. If you haven't fished in water with a high amount of giant boulders in it before, my clip on avoiding snags might be useful. The best time to fish that lake is when the sun is off the water, preferably when it's at the crack of dawn. I figure there is less disruption and noise on the lake from boats, swimming, etc. Good luck.

I show a shot of the chimney on the beach to give you an idea of where I was. I also show a bird's eye view of the rocks I was on. I went to the left from the parking lot, away from the beach, when I hiked down so I ended up a couple hundred yards to the left of the beach. Sorry I couldn't be more exact. It was the first time I checked out the area.

6 year old boys you will problem want to go somewhere with fairly easy access and hopefully a good chance of fast action. The easiest, find a local pond with blue gill and throw out a worm and a bobber and let them catch one after another! If you want something a bit more scenic and adventurous, I'd go to the Bishop area and try Southlake or Lake Sabrina. Fishing should be open there until November 15th. Understand, you would most likely have to hike down to either lake over boulders from the trail but if you take your time you should be able to do it safely. If you can rent a boat at Sabrina, you could probably pull up on a sandy bank at the back of the lake and fish from shore if the rental people allow that. I wouldn't recommend hiking back there with young kids. You could simply walk a few hundred yards down the trail and then head down to the lake when you get to a spot you can access. Both of those lakes have fishing opportunities close to the dam areas where you drive up so it might be good enough simply to park and go to an easy spot to access. It is getting cold at night up there so the bigger fish should be moving in closer to shore. My clips "rigging up for reservoir trout" and "My general strategy for deep water reservoir trout" should give you a winning strategy if you don't already have one. There are streams up there but for 6 year old kids that might not be your best option if you are fishing with them. To technical and hard to get around. Highest percentage chance of catching fish will be from shore. Bishop is beautiful this time of year but be prepared for cold temperatures at night and early in the morning. I would start fishing around 10am so the temps can creep up a bit and your kids don't freeze! If you have any more questions just ask and I will do my best to guide you in the right direction.

I would also add, if you are camping up in the Bishop area be prepared for temps around 30 or lower at night. Good sleeping bags are a must or throw a couple of blankets over everyone's sleeping bags in the tent. Too warm is better than being too cold all night. If you stay at the Forks Campground, there is a bathroom with running water/plumbing and it is situated in the fork in the road that goes to either Southlake or Lake Sabrina. There is also a stream that flows next to the campground and there are some trout in there to mess around with. Browns and Rainbows. If it's too cold for the kids, a hotel room in town is doable because the lakes are only a 10 mile or so straight shot up the mountain. I also think you can rent Cabins in Cardinal Village up on the mountain.

My dad took me and my three older brothers up there fishing when we were kids, we would all go our separate ways at the start of the day and meet up at a designated time to see who caught the biggest trout, total competition...LOL It's time to introduce my little guys to that area. I use the original scent orange, green, yellow. swirl. My general rig up is on my fishing tips playlist "Rigging up for reservoir trout". For lake Tahoe, I up the sinker to 1/2 OZ and shorten my leaders as needed for farther casting.

It's a beach on the side of the road off the 89. This spot at Chimney Beach was sketchy climbing around on the rocks but the spot I fish below Logan Shoals Vista Point down the way a bit was even sketchier!

It is my understanding that you can fish from shore as long as it isn't private property. You can also have either a Nevada or California fishing license since the Lake is on the State Border Line.

That's the best of them that I have tried on the Lake so far. Dealing with those massive boulders under the water seems pretty typical but I wonder how the beaches will fish when it gets too cold for most people. We'll see!

I try to end the fight as quickly as I can in these conditions because of the giant boulders all around that the fish will swim under and saw you off on. There is also the issue of large trout on those tiny size 18 treble hooks I use for power bait. Somehow, they always end up on the edge of the fish's mouth which tells me they don't hold very well! I always try to end the fight as early as possible when I'm fighting larger trout on barbless jigs in a river. I have a lot of that across my two rivers playlists. One jump and the fight could be over as that jig comes whizzing past my head! If I'm standing on a regular bank in a lake or fishing from my boat, I can let the fish swim around all day. Out of all of my Tahoe clips on my 'lakes and reservoirs' playlist my success rate for landing larger fish on those difficult boulders to navigate is fairly high. I get your point from a viewer standpoint.

It depends on the size of the crawlers but on this occasion I was using size 8 bait holder hooks. For powerbait, I use tiny size 18 treble hooks. If you are curious as to exactly how I rig up, go to my trout fishing tips playlist and check out my clips "Rigging up for reservoir trout" or/and "My general technique for deep water reservoir trout". One of the clips would probably do it but they both have overlapping information with slightly varying insight. For Lake Tahoe, I bump my slip sinker to a half OZ and shorten my leaders as necessary to enable farther casting. I hope that helps. get on out there and get some of that action before the warm weather crowds arrive!

The crawlers have been more tricky because they get stolen!!! I started using a smaller one to try and prevent that. It’s helped a bit. Appreciate the tips.

@@michaelwahlander2076 Yeah, I believe the small pirce of powerbait makes a difference in getting the bigger trout to bite it. The large crawlers can be tricky for smaller trout to bite. As long as they are floating, smaller could be better. If there is too much hook in relation to the crawler it's harder to get them to float without fully inflating them. I always try to get away with inflating half to keep them more lively but sometimes you just have to blow them up!

There's no room for them on that rock I'm balancing on! I got that fat 17" at the end. I ate that fish for dinner that night. Meat was a dark reddish pink. SOOOOO GOOOD!

I appreciate all of my subscribers! I figure all of them who are watching are already fishing with me! I typically have so little time to create, edit, and post my content heading out alone is simply easier and is how I roll. In fact, I've been going alone for years since all of my long time fishing bros have gotten hitched and had kids. Now that I'm used to going alone, there's no going back with the exception of family and old friends. With that said, I have 3 clips out of hundreds where I am actually fishing with other human beings. Many subscribers have asked to fish with me. If I wanted to be fair and fish with all of them it's all I would have time to do! I do the next best thing, I give them ideas of where to go and how to catch trout when they get there on my various playlists! Thanks for tuning in.

Go for it! I was going to wait until colder temperatures cleared a lot of those people out but I figured I would try it anyway and it paid off. My car was one of two in the lot when I got there but when I left, the lot was packed and there were cars lining the side of the road for a mile away. In that isolated spot, I was on my own little island but you could hear and see people walking around everywhere on the lakefront trail. I am interested to see if I can get fish off a sandy beach when the cold weather scares most beach goers away. We'll see!

That was. My rod was OK as long as my drag released properly. I think I can go with a few upgrades in the size of my gear though. A longer, stiffer rod is certainly up for consideration. In addition to definitely moving up to 8lb test for lake Tahoe, I believe I might need a larger net. The ring on my net is only 17" wide and that fish was clearly wider than that as I watched it flop right out. If I was in a boat, I could have let that thing run all day and tire out but from those rocks I needed to cut that fight short if possible. I tried, but failed miserably! That fish had several runs left in it when I tried to end the fight early but sometimes the decisions you make in the heat of the moment come back to bite you! Win some, you lose some. From what I have experienced in the few times I have fished lake Tahoe, there are a lot of large fish there and I don't even think I have come close to seeing how big they can get. I need to reconsider a few things on how I approach that lake, especially when it is getting colder and more larger fish will be cruising the shallower water.

I think your using an ugly stik on this video. Clear tip. New subscriber here. I like your videos. You should string your fish up before showing off just in case it wiggles its way out. I've seen videos that fish have wiggled out of the catcher's hand. When I catch my striped bass, I always land it and string it before showing it off.

I kill the fish before I do the close up shot. My problem is that net I have is only 16" wide and has a shallow scoop. Big trout flop right out! It happened in this clip with the one I lost and in the clip "Bruiser of a brown in the Truckee river", the fish flopped out but I was able to grab it and show the viewers before I released it. Thanks for subscribing. I have around 170 clips of backpacking trailheads and fishing locations from the Eastern Sierra up to Lake Almanor. If I finally get more free time, I'll be going farther, longer, and more often to continue to give my viewers ideas of where to go and how to catch fish when they get there. Thanks for tuning in. I hear that! That fish still had a few runs left in it and I figured my line was about done after watching that fish pull it across the rocks several times. Would have liked to have tired it out and eased it in head first but I took a shot to end the fight early and struck out! I think I am going to have a slightly larger net when I roll out to Tahoe next time. That net only has a 17" width to the opening and that fish was quite a bit wider. I don't want to be stuck in that situation if I have a 10 pounder on the line. I will say this, the 17" trout I did land was absolutely delicious! Thanks for checking out the clip.

You would’ve gotten that fish, only if you would’ve grasped the handle of the net. It was the difference between your hand and the handle of the net that lost that monster trout. Because your net placement for the fish was short. Next time, grab the line, drop your pole, and net that fish!!! 😃 Yeah, all those lakes, and reservoirs out there are loaded with trout. The thing is, no one ever goes. It’s the changing demographics of society that doesn’t encourage it. Besides, most people just go to Tahoe to be social, and only do social things. That’s why they go to Tahoe to relax 🤔 but fishing, bah! They merely just sight see and take pictures. Fishing? No way! Not us. Lake fishing is always fun. It’s the thrill of catching those really big trout that won’t fit in the cooler. 👍

Grab that 6lb test frayed line? In general, grabbing the line is a sure fire way to lose a big fish. If I had a bigger net, that fish was in it. It popped out of the ring. Opening was smaller than the fish. Balancing on that rock was no picnic either! I failed to guide it in head first simply because I didn't have full control of the fish yet on my light tackle. I was trying to end it earlier than when the fish was done fighting because I saw the fish rolling around on the other side of the boulders, fraying my line. You win some, you lose some. I win a lot but that time, I fell a little short. It happens.

You don't want some of the nasty people I've had to delete having our email accounts. I try to keep my channel family friendly so their profanity filled rants and lame threats had to be taken down and this stuff isn't something I want heading your way or mine. From what I gather from one loser's veiled threat, I should be prepared for a potential lakeside fight! Loser thinks I gave away his spot. A spot with campgrounds full of people sharing pictures on Facebook and Instagram as well as a bunch of info on it online. That loser isn't aware that the secret has long been out. I simply drove to the dam at Jackson Meadows Reservoir to fish and I'm going back soon!
