Horses who aren't comfortable tend to sleep standing up so that they can run away but when they're happy and comfortable and well loved, they much prefer to lie down.

I've always hated fart jokes, but for some reason watching a room full of farting, snoring horses is the funniest thing I've seen all day.

Nap time. :-) Do they all lie down like that every day? Mine generally all sack out at around the same time. They never sleep that close together though. That is a happy, relaxed group of horses...if somewhat gassy lol

Wow how amazing, I have been brought up with horses for 20+ years and I have never seen such content and happy horses, have never seen horses be so close laying down like that before without it ending in a punch up, I think modern society horses are raised to the extent that they forget how to be horses together.

+Ro Pi most horses don't lie down because they don't feel comfortable around their humans or their situation.

I thought horses slept standing! Them cowboy movies.

Colic???!!! Don't be ridiculous. These horses are blooming with health happiness and contentment. There's no way they'd be that relaxed and contented if there was ANY sign of physical or mental distress. Absolutely beautiful, horses cared for the way they should be!!!

Horses lay only when they know for sure it's safe. Usually at least one is standing and guarding.

I have had horses all my life.....but I have never seen such a group of lovely, contented,comfortable & very relaxed horses in my life. Not 1 of them has the flight instinct....totally amazing...WOW ! ! !

They all have the flight instinct, they are still prey animals. They just feel safe and happy so there's no need to be alert :)

is this normal horse behavior in a herd? are they extra comfy for some reason? i thought horses slept standing up/rarely and were too on edge to drop there guard and chill out like this. if anyone wants to educate me ! pls do so

Lovely video! There's such a sense of pure relaxation in this barn and I love the open concept. Glad to see someone else who understands that horses are herd animals and don't like stalls! My two horses are happy and healthy living outside with a simple run in for the weather.

Can't film mine sleeping because the minute they hear me walking to the barn, they think I have treats or have come to feed them or the weather has gotten better and they can go outside. The house is near the barn and they actually come up when they hear my alarm clock go off. "Hey, what's going on? Get out of bed!"

That's pretty funny. If you can ,open up your barn, take out the stall walls and fill it with sawdust wall to wall. The horses have shown me that they prefer to come and go and in summer they sleep out in the pasture at night and come in for the shade in the day. That way they can live as they would in the wild. I never lock them in the barn...the 12 foot front door is always open.

Same I can't record. I keep my horses at my grandparents house and they're paddock horses. The have three paddocks to graze in (one is locked up so the grass has time to grow) and they have trees in each paddock and have a one water trove in the connection of all the paddocks and the feed shed is in one of the paddocks. We don't get much rain and it's not super cold so they don't shave rugs for that and if it's super hot they just keep cool by laying in the a big bitch of soft black sand under the shade. I also have no idea where they sleep. (Ones a quarter horse cross Arabian and ones a little Shetland pony.)

Horses are just beautiful animals. Love them so much. I wish I could have at least 1 or 2
