Agreed! There are some (not all) police officers who feel entitled to power and abuse it with tantrums (and sometimes violence) when they feel like they need/deserve absolute control over other humans. These people corrupt and make our society more dangerous for regular people, which also makes it more difficult and sometimes more dangerous for other police officers because regular people stop trusting them. Maybe your attorney can request if others have filed complaints on this officer, too? Horse Plus has a larger voice than individuals, but these individuals could potentially support HPHS if their testimony was needed. Please report that officer.

Here in East Tennessee sheriffs department won't come out unless livestock is loose in the road. Neither will animal control for large animals. You have to file a complaint online with Tennessee ag department and it's not anonymous which is why lots of people don't do it. Even with a complaint filed, TN livestock standards are low and much depends on which ag dept person gets sent out. The term "adequate" is subjective here instead of being well defined. For most of them, that means a little dirty water and moldy hay available. They also never follow up on owners claim that they just bought the animal. They don't ask for bill of sale, previous owner name or even vets name that has supposedly seen the animal. I've owned horses for 50 years and am not advocating every horse has to have ramm fence and an air conditioned barn. I'm fine with barbed wire and trees for shade/shelter. Things became this way because most animal control offices do not have a place for large animals even if they did seize them. Most are very understaffed and overrun with strays which is why they give warnings first for small animals. Rescues here are overrun with unwanted small animals and due to kill pen bailers horse rescues are too. People raise money for horses from traders, but after that most rescues struggle to provide aftercare and rehab. Most don't have the funding horse plus has.

It's ridiculous! He had a tantrum because you had legal counsel on the phone, and he couldn't bully you. He needs his power taken away from him cause clearly he abuses it. I'm glad you continue to stand up for what you know is right. And you know you're not breaking any laws. Keep doing what you're doing. You guys are awesome! ❤🐎

It seems that the criminality in our government has touched the highest positions to the lowest of the low positions! What horrible person could be against saving animals from suffering??? Never in my 76 years did I ever think this country would be in such a complete mess! Why is anyone in agriculture against saving animals from suffering and abuse??? How disgusting! The look on his face when your lawyer started talking was priceless! He wasn’t expecting that. Shame on them for their bullying tactics which were on full display for all the world to see. To interrupt a surgery in progress is an egregious and aggressive tactic that was totally uncalled for. I’m so proud of your maturity in dealing with these people who are negatively targeting Horse Plus. Yep. I've done research on a small, rural town in my county that has an unreasonable affect on our politics in respect to their population. Most ( around 70%) of the elected officials come from one family, through blood or marriage. Sounds like they're good citizens, right? Well, this family owns the majority of this town, and are near billionaire status. Going back through 25+ years of elections, the candidates with the most money almost always won. There are state campaign finance laws, but they aren't that hard to get around if you're experienced in politics.Rural politics are brutal, honestly.

The state agriculture officer is being unreasonable! Using having a Coiggns tests as an excuse when the auction itself sold you horses in the past that didn’t have proper Coggins tests for those horses. I think what’s going on is the buyout program is taking money from the auctions commissions also the kill buyers and horse traders. Keep up the good work, they’re just trying to wear you down; this is a contest of the wills! Stand firm! I have no doubt HPHS will prevail.

Maybe there in Tennessee. But here in the West, we don't have ANY Big Lick horses. When I see a Tennessee Walker, it's doing it wonderful gait. But then, I've mostly seen them doing competitive trail riding on North American Trail Riding Conference rides.

There needs to be a lawsuit against the AG. These guys are out of control, and this good old boys mentality that makes them think they can break the law for no reason is ridiculous. It needs to stop. They need to fire whoever is doing this mess.

Actually, an internal affairs complaint against the Agriculture Officer may be appropriate. He should know better than to add his external germs to the surgical environment and endanger the animal being treated.

Butt hurt cops are dangerous. Egos get in the way of common sense and ability to perform their jobs respectfully. Seems its the method of operation no matter the type or state or place we are trying to comply with. In the mean time again the victims are the animals. I appreciate and support everything the folks who working whether they are employed or volunteers in support of animal welfare. Your efforts and dedication and sacrifices are honored and admired. I admire all agencies but Horse Plus has center stage in my heart. I love you all.

So true. Angry Law Enforcement Officers can be very dangerous!

I don't understand how anyone could think your facility is subpar in any way. And I don't understand why law enforcement is so wishy washy. Sometimes they come to you for help, and then they act like this. But if you weren't there, they wouldn't provide anywhere near the help you do! I'm glad you have an attorney, and got all your paperwork and everything lined up.

You should file a restraining order on the office who was so confrontational stating you do not feel safe when he is at your facility.

Holy Moly! We know exactly what is driving this law enforcement behavior. Hold on tight to your convictions and manners. We are all behind you 100%!

Every time you show and speak the true of what is really going on at that auction and in that county's law enforcement, you shine the light of truth and evil can't stand the light!

Your conversation with the State Vet reminds me of a conversation I was having with an official over the phone. WE went around in circles so much that I was dizzy. In the end, I asked if I was talking to a robot. Stay strong guys. You have the higher moral ground. That sheriff was on a power trip. Hate to be marries to him.

If a complaint was sent in about the auction and their coggins would they do the same thorough investigation? And it be recorded so the ENTIRE world would see that they were holding everyone the same accountability? I doubt it!! Again why has this not been brought up? If this rescue is held accountable then they should be too. Period!! Everyone i have ever seen that goes to auction knows they pull any coggins for a horse. Doesnt matter if its theirs or some random horse. Some the wrongs color 🤔. Amazingly swept under the rug but ONE rescue has to be totally transparent or theres a legal issue. A 2 yr old can see the BS that is happening

Horse Plus has bought many horses from the auction that do not have matching Coggins. They come from out of state. The kill buyers move horses from all over the country to these sales to get the most money they can.

Let’s just face it - Tennessee is a suck state. I really admire you guys for setting up your shelter in one of the states that needs it the most, and for fighting for your rights as well as for the animals.

As long as there are irresponsible owners of animals there will always be animals suffering. There needs to be stronger enforceable laws against animal abuse!! Period! Auctions aren't responsible for the condition animals are brought to them, BUT there should be better oversite at the auctions and laws upheld against allowing animals in poor condition to be accepted by the auction houses.

How do we find them and their owners and criminally, legally punish them. Wouldn't or shouldn't the local humane society be involved?? If I kept any of these animals in this condition I can promise you, neighbors, friends, good-doers would have turned me in multiply times. How do we get this done??

This is why we have federal courts, because states and state/local officials can get so very incestuous with local business interests. My guess is that big lick and the owners of that auction are acting together in this. I note with interest that you are getting almost no big lick horses at your buyout, and you used to get them at auction all the time. And it’s not like that industry reformed itself.

Your answer to the officers should be that all requests need to go thru our attorney. Here is his card.

The behavior of the LEO (Tennessee Department of Agriculture) is appalling along with the people of Cookeville and the auction house!! I applaud you for your professionalism in this matter. I hope that your organization prevails. You all do such an amazing job there to help animals which involves making some really tough decisions sometimes.

I’ve been following ya’ all for a few years…. You are all angels!! I’m so happy Dr. Lydia is back… her knowledge is phenomenal and her explanation is so helpful to someone, like me, who has a few teens and mostly seniors. I really feel so bad for the suffering horses and donks…. At the same time, it’s such a hard thing to put your older horse down. I also commend you all for partnering with other rescues - your experiences are invaluable for all the new rescues out there. God bless all of you!

That law enforcement officer was rude beyond belief and needs to be reported immediately to his superiors. Pretty certain that the auction guys are paying hush money under the table to at least two of the law enforcement officers on a regular monthly or quarterly basis. Doubt that the auction would be stupid enough to pay them by check. Who knows? Maybe money transfers? Or, straight out cash in-hand. But, the officers, not thinking that anyone would want the illegal payments traced in such a small, tight knit community, are probably depositing the money into one of their bank accounts. Would be great if there was a way to legally have access to their bank accounts and have them explain where some of their deposits come from.

Tawnee mentioned that HPHS had a good relationship with him/her until the incident with the stallion being gelded by someone who didn't know what he was doing. And HPHS has mentioned in previous videos that there are lies being spread about them when they have the buyout program in Cokeville (?). Several good examples were mentioned in this video.

@@cynthiacarter514 20 horses come off of one of those trailers they unload and that is $10k in horses. Tawny is buying 3 or 4 trailer loads so figure one month she had 38 horses at $19k and one month was 54 horses? at $27k so in two months she ate $46k plus what those horses would have brought in being taken over the border for slaughter. It's not just slaughter because many end up in kill pens and the skinny ones make great rescue stories so people pay lots of money to "rescue" them and it's why Tawny doesn't buy from kill pens and one that people were linking me recently that was a body score of 1 went for almost $2k for a horse that might not make the trailer ride to a vet to be saved. A local kill pen buyer maxes out what he buys at $500 for a horse, a good horse, and he flips them for $1100+ in his kill pen or he ships them down south. It's a lot of money you are talking about for people and even 1/10 of 2 mo of what Tawny has done is $4,600 and let's dbl it since there has been 4 buyouts. . . and just round the number. . .$10k is a lot of money to mess with!!! That's 1/10 of what Tawny/HPHS has bought in horses (approx) so far this year. Kill buyers aren't big on Credit Cards. They like cash and when horses are $500 ea or less you can afford to pay cash for a horse.

I’m from Australia so not sure how it works in USA but they way those officials behave on whose order not even really sure is bordering on harassment. This is easy to prove as the amount of time they are spending without provocation from HRP to try any catch you out is appalling. When the job you do is so amazing and selfless they need to have a long hard look at themselves. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤯🤯🙀🙀🐴🐴

Over the nearly 50 years of owning horses, including many rescues, I can't count how many times my initial assessment of the horse's prognosis was wrong. So many times I didn't think a horse had a chance of survival, much less a return to comfort and was proven wrong. There were just as many times when I thought a horse looked perfectly treatable only to find a devastating diagnosis once a full exam and diagnostics were done. Horses are large animals that can not have any quality of life with certain injuries that a smaller animal maybe could. There are also fewer options available for larger animals verses smaller animals. On the positive side, there are illnesses and injuries that may cause terrible, but temporary suffering that can have a happy ending. I think you guys do a great job of showing and explaining this emotional roller coaster. You give every horse the best of care with thorough exams and diagnostics in order to make the best, but often the most difficult decision of the best course of action for each individual horse. No matter the course of action, every horse is treated with respect, love and kindness which many haven't experienced for awhile, if ever. I always think how so many of these horses were very much loved at some point in their life and had the rug pulled out from under them at their weakest moment once they were sick or injured. It's disgusting how people can be so cruel.

Jason, if only he had come over the counter! On video, with your lawyer on the phone, with multiple witnesses, you could rescue a whole hell of a lot of horses at the state's expense!

I dont understand why so many ppl are against you all saving/rescuing horses? Why are they so intent on stopping your work and purpose? How much money are these assholes getting from the sales of these poor animals in the auctions? They all seem dirty.

My guess is that HPHS is too outspoken in too many "old boys' clubs." I haven't watched for very long and haven't seen all their videos, but it sure seems that the abuse of the Tennessee Walking Horses with the desire for the Big Lick gait and then after they're all used up and broken down send them to slaughter are connected. The incident with the stallion that was gelded without any proper care so that it's intestines came out was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. HPHS is shining light on the darkness of not only the slaughter pipeline but also the abuse of the Big Lick horses. My guess is that generations of people who have done this think it's just part of their heritage and have no idea how destructivel it is to the horse. I was unaware and had never seen a horse doing the Big LIck before finding HPHS. As a horsewoman for 50 plus years riding trails and having my horses going barefoot most of the time, the Big Lick gait is nauseating to me, especially since I found out that the horse breaks down so quickly from this inhumane treatment of them. I've know people who have Tennessee Walking horses and they looked like a pleasure to ride on trails. So there is a market for the ones that DON'T do the Big Lick.

They are losing money period. That's the whole reason. The Auction house is losing business because they are cut out of the equation now People are selling directly to Horse Plus . They did it to themselves by banning HP at the Auction. Smh

@@alycewich4472 I've seen many claim that they're reselling horses back into the pipeline, and that most are just killed and buried while the founder go on 'cruises' all the time and stuff. While the numbers going in seem higher than the adoptions, there's always a few that need to be put down AND shelter transfers happen too. One person claimed there was something fishy going on because on one photo you could only see two horses standing at the fence of the (what, multi ten acre facility?) main road. 'where are the others??' they claim. Like... horses dont stand at the fence all day dude.

Might be time to reach out to the Governor's office. Or reach out to the Federal Agriculture Department

I can't believe that officer was that nasty. He was pulling his authority card and he should be reprimanded for his actions. It was uncalled for. Police are not supposed to be one sided. You have three sides both sides and then the truth. I hope the people that are causing you problems get fined for false information and harassment and what else they can get them for. Bully tyrant L.E.O. He didn't get his way, so like an immature child, he storms out. Jason, you 'should' try to respect the L.E.O.s,, . . . . hmmmmm, I'm not too sure about that. You should always stay alert & keep your senses when dealing with them. But in saying that, you also need to remember that most of those L.E.O.s don't even know the law. I laughed when he came in & spoke these words to Tawnee, "Hey look Tawnee, you & I know (I'm kind'a lost on the next few words, but they were something along the lines of the following) we were on the same phone conversation that Dr. (someone) explained every bit of this to you. You know by law, what the law is. You probably know the law as well as we do." This is where I burst out laughing! The majority of police officers DON"T know any laws! Don't forget that! They do not study "any" in-depth laws when they go through their training. Yes, they learn the basics. Most of them can't even offer a statue code to any law that they state. You darn well had a right to ask them to leave. To get off of your property & come back in 24 hours when you would provide the Coggins. Now, having said that, just because you had a right to, doesn't mean that you have to, or should take such a firm step. However! If I was Dr. Lydia, or Dr., Gina, there is no way in heck that I would have let them in during the surgery! Contaminating a surgical site, etc.! I would have demanded that they wait outside until the surgery was over! You can push without pushing over the edge like they are obviously doing. That kind of 'push' is called standing up for your rights, for what "is" right & not letting bullies walk all over you! And the entire topic of the beginning of this whole fiasco is so extremely childish on the part of the auction house! The seriousness of not having a law against castrating your own animals is disgraceful! Allowing an unlicensed person to be able to cut open any living animal , sedated or not, is almost like attempted murder! You are literally taking a knife, scalpel, . . whatever, it is still a sharp blade & injecting it into a living being! This is the childish point! I don't remember any of you EVER saying that it was the fault of the Auction facility. Correct me if I am wrong, please? The entire point of your mention, fight, cause, is to make everything that I previously typed in this paragraph illegal !! It should be a common sense law! The childish aspect is that they are taking it as a dig, or jab against themselves. Can you tell? I just don't like bullies & I am so sorry that you have to go through all of this. I'm also sooooo glad to see how well you are handling it all, that you have a great lawyer, and that you are so educated on all of the legalities of this! HUGE HUGZZZZZ !! 'nother point, or question Jason. if any of those phones were personal phones, but were being used in the course of their duties (while they were on the clock), then they have now become public record & 'are' part of the F.O.I.A. Without taking it to a district court, it 'is' hard to prove though & it is your word against theirs.

Long before the organization or even the possibility of saving horses came to fruition, it all started from the love & compassion from a huge heart within. Within 'You'! Personally, I think holding future low cost vaccination, spay and neuter clinics would cool some heads. It brings people to your facility and they see how you operate and get to know you. It shows your worth to the community instead of only hearing the bad gossip and lies. OR Have an open house. Use visuals (media) to explain your beliefs, mission, experience/past and some great success stories. Like Black Beauty. You know the other side like Agriculture, some LE, city councils, mayors all have contacts and the dirt is flying cause a lot of them have contacts with the auction and Big Lick. So the goal is to get more people to believe in YOUR mission. Get the masses on your side. Educate the low income pet owners. I hope the best for you and your extraordinary organization. Keep your recorders on and your records updated daily. Evidence, evidence, evidence.

I have watched this video several times and the more i have watched it.... I am so much more upset. One would hope that the law enforcement woulld be apprehending criminals, but no. Harassment of a rescue foundation seems to be high priority. How the officer's actions truly upset the whole working staff is unacceptable and a lawsuit should take place. Harassment by Law enforcement.

What you SHOULD be doing is your job & helping these horses BEFORE they get in the health they are when Horse Plus steps up‼️ I'm so damn mad. Wonderful news! I have loved this Horse Rescue and Animal Shelter since I found this Shelter on line and I don’t have horses, but I am lover of Rescue Shelters for Animals.. Yep, some "good" ol' boy is definitely harassing you guys. Either auction or Big Lick or maybe one of each. Film & record every single thing, have your attorney on the line every time you speak to them so he can hear exactly what they are saying. And I think we all know why white-hair was so made---next time offer him a cup of coffee & some male enhancement supplements, I'm sure he'll calm right down!

Department of Agriculture needs investigated for fraud, corruption and breaking the law themselves, then the person prosocuted to the full extent of the law. We need to make this more public, and higher powers brought in, even if it goes all the way to DC!

By working to change laws you are liable to hurt someone's pocket book, that is unacceptable in THEIR eyes so they will gather together to try to stop you ANY WAT THEY CAN , it is WRONG but they don't care. Unfortunately corrupt individuals and corruption in high places isn't uncommon; that is what you are facing, sad but true. I hope your legal advice is the best and you can win. Might be worth trying to find out what connections the officer has with the auction house e.g. are they related through marriage or close friends. If you find a link then maybe you could get him barred from dealing with you as there would be a conflict of interest. Great strategy to have the lawyer on speed dial it’s one way of dealing with those who think they can bully and hide behind their badge. You know you are on the right path when others are feeling threatened and are getting agitated and defensive in their actions.

I am so sorry some misguided officials place this kind of stress and harassment on your incredible organization. HPHS is laudable and beyond reproach in its rescue, shelter and rehab practices. While those unsavory officials may individually have narcissistic control issue it is concerning that they may reflect a more widespread, nefarious “understanding” among agencies and organizations within the state. We hope that is not the case and send our prayers from California for your entire team and all of the animals who depend on HPHS. How could any human go out of their way to prevent saving even one precious life? 😢

Also have your legal team to look into maybe a restraining order or some other type of order in place to protect your privacy and security reasons and safety concerns

Jason, glad you are following through on the possible relationship/$/family connection among agri guy/law enforcement/politics and the auction house. As lovely as small towns are, power partnerships exist to keep toxic businesses going. The auction people are not the sharpest knives in the drawer; they could have calculated the commissions they would lose by excluding Horse Plus. Pure ignorance and backward thinking. You will help to clean things up and raise the consciousness in TN. Thank you!

I fear you are experiencing a version of lawfare. It's becoming prevalent. Totally respect your handling of it. Your transparency and integrity are your best weapons. Where are so many destroyed horses coming from? It hasn't changed in the years I've had eyes on through you. The pipeline is fed by those humans who own horses, and those who make money at it.

Those officers as they like to call themselves were caught out and it angered them. Its nothing but harassment toward Horse Plus and everyone got to see that. No wonder the cruelty is rife with those kind of enforcement people trying to keep control. There were only 2 officers (one at the auction and the other at HPHS property). As Jason mentioned there only seems to be these 2 that they have difficulty with. There may be others, but the FOIA isn't coming up with answers either. So obviously there's something else going on. Maybe further up the chain of command?

The cop that got mad didn't happen to be a state police officer by the name of Bob Barker? I had dealings with him when I lived in Tennessee and he is a real piece of work. In Crossville and in Cookeville (I lived in both places) the cops were more interested in taking care of the criminals instead of the victims. I spoke with a cop when I moved to McMinnville and he even said that there were a lot of corrupt cops in both Cookeville and Crossville, including some who would make deals with drug users in exchange for drugs. I finally moved to Central Florida and every cop I meet in my area is friendly. My Sheriff is Grady Judd and he is the absolute best

It amazes me how hard the city/state works to get you not to be able to save horses instead of being the voice for the horses who are suffering so much. It makes me wonder how much unlawful things are being conducted in that auction house. Who is forcing them to stop caring these horses.
