Horse Shelter Heroes S5E18 - Making a Huge Difference
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
This week at the shelter, it's a whirlwind of emotions! Angela, our former Shelter Manager, is moving up as the new Director of Operations. We also celebrate with two heartwarming adoptions - a special horse and a furry canine companion find their forever homes. The vet barn is buzzing with activity as two of our horses undergo major surgeries, requiring all hands on deck. Meanwhile, the farrier arrives to keep our hooved residents healthy and comfortable.
But the surprises don't stop there! We welcome a new batch of adorable - but unexpected - residents: a herd of surrendered goats! And to top it all off, we have a huge surprise in store for the dedicated team at the Navajo Nation! Tune in for an episode filled with second chances, heartwarming moments, and the unwavering dedication of the Horse Shelter Heroes team!

I’ve heard how the indigenous nations are selling their equine brothers to slaughter at massive amounts. Some folks are sending their equine brothers to slaughter to earn a living and keep the atrocity inhumane suffering continue. So hoping this will improve the communities overall!
Your ferrier is a super star! Optimistic, no nonsense , gets the job done. Patient & knowledgeable. Good job.

Don't forget cute.
Today I found out about this judge in Painsville Ohio who's name is Michael Cicconetti and he is an amazing man when it comes to sentencing animal abusers! It was on youtube so you should be able to find the same video with no problem. You will have the biggest grin on your face when you hear his sentences for people! We need more judges like him on our side!!
I live 4.5 hours from your facility. I would drive that distance to have Dr. Lydia take care of my Service dog and best friend. Dr. Lydia, it's been a long time since I've seen such a talented vet with so much love and caring for animals. I love that there is a site where I can watch you work your magic!

I live in SC and I took would drive to Tenn if my beloved dog needed help. Dr. Lydia is one of a kind, she has a full plate being married and with children and she just works to hard she gets my respect for that alone, but as you said JMiller, the compassion and care and talent she has is outstanding. I think all of us fans should be sending little care boxes to her and also to her sidekick Dr Gina who is getting the best on the job training alongside Dr. Lydia. If I am not mistaken , I don't think Dr Gina had been out of Vet school too long before going to Horse Plus. Whatever....these ladies rock and Horse Plus is so blessed by them being on staff. As to little care packages for them, I bet if we call there, the office people can make some suggestions that are personalized . I know I am going to do that and it will be fun when they open them as whenever a fan sends stuff they generally give the opening of them a short inclusion in an episode.

Poor Dora, can't believe that tracheostomy site was so gross! Guys please stop worrying about the novice rider situation, it has been said that the adopted horse has gone to a trainer and the boy is learning on an older more experienced horse. Can't wait to see more of the Navajo nation trip 💜

I love Dora! I’m so glad she was purchased by HPHS and now she’s going to get the care she needs. ❤️
Thank you for being boots on the ground so quickly after the tornadoes in Tennessee. As a horse owner, fires and tornadoes were my two biggest fears. I can't imagine how terrifed the owners of the horses at that boarding stable must have been, knowing a tornado was bearing down on their beloved horses and not being able to do a thing about it. I'm so thankful they all survived. I hope their wounds will heal quickly and fully.
Such wonderful staff at Hplus and the Hopi and Navaho nations. I don’t know who you are Louise, but you have a kind heart! What a generous gift.
Before I was born, my parents taught on the Navajo reservation for several years. The home movies they took show an unrelenting tide of underfed horses and dogs. It is heartening to know that there are people who are working to alleviate the suffering.
Ive seen so many sweet horses watching these videos but there is something so special about dora to me. Her sweet face just melts my heart i just want to love on her and give her all the cookies
I'm so glad Dora got the great care she needs! ❤ She's so thicccc and beautiful, and I'm grateful she is safe.
Thank you for listing all the ways you are treating Dolly. I saved one of my horses with gastro-sponge. I hope Dolly gets strong and it is so sweet to see her nursing... I enjoy Horse+ Vets too- I am an obstetrics RN so NOTHING GROSSES ME OUT, though I am glad I do not have smell-a-vision. I hope Dora does well
Dora seemed to do really well with the surgery. Elija did an amazing job on her feet. They look so much more normal. I imagine it feels a little weird to her walking on them, but hopefully she's a lot more comfortable long term.
For Huey, you can get heavy plastic/rubber shoes and glue them on. Seen this done on the Hoof GP, he does cows feet but will occasionally use 1/2 of one of these for a cow. He uses Hoof Grip Pro glue it’s neon green and stays on for a long time
So glad you were able to help Dora with both her trach and feet. I hope she can now find her forever home.
Thank you for helping these animals and helping the Hopi people with their animals ❤️.
If you are talking about commercials, KZread chooses those-HPHS has no control over what is shown.
Elijah is very talented.
I love love Horse Plus and all the great work they do to get the animals back in good health. Dora is so beautiful and sweet. I'm so happy Dr. Lydia was able to get the trac out of her neck successfully. Poor little donkey with the tumors, so glad the doctor's were able to remove them. Poor baby Dolly I hope she survives ❤️ it will break my heart if she doesn't 😢
God bless you for helping out the Hopi and Navajo Nations!! You are all so amazing!!
Your blacksmith is so chilled with the horses what a lovely bloke.
Awww look at sweet Dora’s bottom lip just dangling cause she’s tranquilized all a little Dora or should I say Big Dora I’m glad they got that trach thing cake taken care of. ****** Dora sure has a good body condition. She is a big girl. ❤
I enjoy watching the vets & farrier doing their work… so interesting & educational! 👍
Dora is GORGEOUS!! 😍 my god what a face she has! And her coloring! So glad to see she’s doing well after trach removal and that her feet aren’t as bad as I’d feared ❤
Wonderful donation Louise!!!!
As far as Huey's feet, we had a horse just like him. Our farrier used a type of hard rubber shoe (sorry I can't remember the brand name) that we ordered the first time and then the farrier store he used started carrying it. It can be glued on or nailed on and it was wonderful. It saved his hoof because he had a super hard hoof that didn't grow and was hard to maintain. After finding this shoe in a horse magazine, our farrier tried it and loved it. It was the perfect solution for long term care of his hoof. We almost lost him due to a coffin bone infection that there were no signs of where it came from. After being on the surgery table twice, he was given only a 5% chance of survival. With over a year of stall rest his foot fused itself and although he didn't walk quite right he was out of pain and happy to be a 16 hand pet and lived out his life with us. If it wasn't for that shoe, we don't know how things would have turned out.

To me and my husband, our animals were our family. We went out of our way to make sure they were well cared for and happy. We got a lot of remarks from people saying Mickey was useless and needed to be put down. That was never in our vocabulary and if there was a chance he could have a happy, pain free life that was all it took for us to give it to him.

@@stacey_h I love that philosophy, and think as you do 😊
In U.K. they introduced silicone hoof molds and use Epoxy to create an adhered coverage of the hoof. Could work on the horse with thin hoof.
We need a nice, cool farrier facility with a bench, stands, and tools. I'm worried about his hunky back
If that glue doesn't work out Elijah could try some Hoof Grip Pro? It's made for cows, but I get the impression it basically does not peel off at all.
Everyone involved is so Awesome, kind, and generous!!

I LOVE seeing horses adopted, but could we have some disclaimers that novice rider who is **just** learning to ride and an unstarted colt are not generally a recommended combination. Wanting kids to have a foal to grow up with is a red flag that most sellers and rescue orgs shy away from because the chance of safety and long term success is slim. Just putting that out there so it doesn’t become a popular trend.

@@keojiabrown6807 green + green = black and blue. I got my own horse at a young age, but he was already started and I had been riding for a number of years and was the general "barn rat" that couldn't be extracted from the stable, and didn’t think about anything but horses. It was still a dubious, and at times dangerous, combination. He was my heart horse and taught me a lot about life, but the smarter choice would have been something older with more mileage that I could learn from and enjoy, rather than white knuckling and losing my confidence a few times. I'm sure he would have been happier if I was more balanced and skilled.

@@myssakay I wasn't meaning them or that specific adoption.... I was referring to glorifying/romanticising the notion of "growing up together".
@HughLlewellyn
21 күн бұрын
That idea has been popular since before I was born. But it's not something Horse Plus would consider when looking at adoption candidates. They insist on experienced riders, or adopters with trainers in their screening process before they'll match green horses with them. So maybe the adopter is a novice, but they most certainly have a trainer who will be working with the horse and rider if Horse Plus approved that adoption.

I believe that the boy has a older horse to ride for now, and has a trainer giving him lessons, and eventually for pilgrim. I think that the parents wanted him to have a horse that he can grow and learn and bond with, while learning from a experienced horse trainer. I do understand your concerns, but my parents did the exact same thing. I had a older horse to ride and a yearling to grow with and a awesome trainer. And after 2 yrs he trained the younger horse and then me with the younger horse. We on to ride in horse shows, trail rides and just enjoying our time together ❤️

Just a suggestion, The Hoof GP has a product called Hoof Grip Pro, I believe, which he has also used to build up a block on cows that couldnt get a proper block/shoe on. That might be more durable as a temp shoe for the TB with the bad feet that cant take shoes. Its a green glue...pretty tough stuff and dried much faster than the product used. Might be worth looking at for that TB.
May you all be Blessed, your hard work and love for these Animals is beyond Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Praising God that He is using people to supply the need of the Hopi peoples. Blessings from OKC.❤
Prayers for Dora to have a healthy complete healing 💕🐎🙏
Tawnee , I am sure you already know this, but I will comment anyway. I follow a nice family channel in AZ who live in Joseph City AZ along the interstate. They do some rescues on the Res' out that way and the man of the family works for a church ministry that goes to the various res' so he has come to know many residents throughout the years. Most res' have too many horses running wild . Of course we know that having feral stallions running with Mares is a recipe for over breeding and even poor health due to not enough forage to accommodate too many horses. So, this man has offered to buy some of the colts IF the young men will go out and catch them. He also will buy some mares who are not doing well because of the conditions and the repeated pregnancies that have weakened them. Awhile back , not sure if it was the man I am speaking about or someone else, but it became known that the really poor residents on these res' will often do a round up and then the wild horse are sold to traders.....and well.....we pretty know that happens then.....they are going to auctions and into the slaughter pipeline. SO, it will be WONDERFUL if more vets can get to these res' to geld as many as the young men are able and willing to catch and get them to the area where the vets will be staying. The man I am aware of says that it should be really brought to the attention of the horses catchers that sell to traders, just what these feral horses are going to endure until they are shipped to slaughter. The tribes for the most part hold the horse in their traditions and for the most part they are respected and cared for when the young men bring some in to be ridden and in various events they have. So, the man I know says that he really believes some education even if it must be graphic as in undercover videos so be it as he is pretty darn sure that they will stop doing that and the herds can not keep growing by having special events for the feral horses on these res'
Love the horses, donkeys, and goats!
