Horse Shelter Heroes - Episode 41- October 8-14

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this episode of Horse Shelter Heroes:
Buddy and Neptune go to their new forever home. The family has adopted from us before and are so excited to welcome two more beautiful horses into their home. You won’t believe the little girl’s huge smile when she finds out she gets to adopt two more horses!
The farrier gives several horses a much needed trim while Toffee’s evaluation was well underway; Toffee is available for adoption and we cannot wait to see the rest of her story unfold.
Four miniature horses from the last auction rescue were transferred to another organization to finish their quarantine. Xena, Parker, Trigger, and Flash are all so cute and will be very happy awaiting a forever home.
Ever wonder what a weekly vet visit looks like at the shelter? The vet (more commonly referred to as “Doc”) accomplished wellness checks, X-rays, and much more.

I have binge watched your videos for 8 hours straight. I love the before and after. Scared, emaciated and abused horses to beautiful, healthy, and kind horses that all have their own personality. They just crave love and affection. One of my favourite parts is when they are ready to run in an open field or pasture. They pile out of the truck with so much happiness I can feel nothing else but pure joy for them.

I just bought a 3yo buckskin filly off a slaughter buyer. She's was crazily emaciated when we first got her and head shy but we're working on it and she's now letting me take her halter off and put it back on easily 🥰 I put her out in the big paddock for the first time yesterday with two other horses and she just looked so happy. It's crazy to think how such a stunning horse would have been dog meat the next day if not picked up and although I know it doesn't change the world to rescue one horse, it has changed that one horse's world.

I was able to purchase a few items off your wish list and saw them on your desk, so I’m glad they arrived. I went directly to Amazon and hunted for over an hour to find the wish list and gave up. I did find it through a Google search which is funny. So people may want to be buying items, but like me, had a very hard time locating the list. The second thing was, Amazon would not let me purchase some of the triangular feed bins for the stalls as I would get a message that they could not be sent to a “hidden” address. There must be a way to do it because on a prior video I saw that one was purchased and donated. I know your staff is super busy, but I would hate to see the rescue do without items because people cannot find the wish list on Amazon, or items cannot be purchased. So maybe someone can check with Amazon. Thank you for the wonderful work you all are doing, and thanks to the adopters that make room in their lives and hearts for the lovely horses.

Omg your trainer Jessie is incredible... I'm an Eventer & let me tell ya- I have ridden multiple horses thru preliminary/CCI1* did the NAYRC-aka the northern hemisphere jr Olympics & done a few Intermediate level horse trials & schooling advanced- have show jumped& competed thru 4'6"... And my horses will blindly leap off banks with 7ft drops into the water, jump pirate ships, terrifyingly bright fruit stands almost 4ft tall with nearly 10ft spreads, CARS... All sight-unseen- just by trusting me & being ridden correctly & positively & assertively towards the jumps at the right speed & getting them to right distance to take off from... But OHHH LORD- those horses would have PISSED THEMSELVES if they saw some of those "desensitizing items" you guys use for these horses... Bahahhaa. The ONLY horse I ever jumped or rode around scary things on like that was my first big-time horsey, who was just a $4,000 15h anglo-arab PaintX gelding- he ended up being my junior Olympics horse even- and WE jumped the craziest things at the barn- we would tape Christmas wrapping paper to the poles on our stadium jumps- totally blowing in the wind in the outdoor arena- or lay metallic space blankets over the top rails, hang polyester, loud/flappy banners from the back rails on the oxers, wrap party bunting around the rails even infront of the fences on the ground, wrap sparkly tinsle around narrow "skinny" fences with barely 3'6" wide rails... But my little Borys was like the ONLY horse in the entire barn who jumped all these loony things without even flinching... Girls on their $50-75,000 imported horses who had competed at the CCI2* or advanced level?! Ah HELL NO! they wouldn't go NEAR those things without some, ahem, EXTREME "encouragement" with spurs and a whip & a VERY strong ride... And often with a "lead ride" by following me over them, hahaha. Which is just proof that a super expensive, fancy horse DOES NOT MEAN it will be anywhere NEAR "bomb proof," vs. my little $4,000 mutt I leased, who reminds me a lot of a lot of these rescue horses (he was actually bred for his color & temperament mostly- he was a beautiful buckskin tobiano paint- but he also jumped the MOON, was fast as hellllll- we put 17h thoroughbreds to SHAME with our speed and stamina! And was actually a very talented, very high scoring dressage horse, too!) I wish I could find another little guy like him... I see some horses on here that u guys rescue that honestly remind me a bit of little Borys... Obviously never quite as PLUMP as he was- and rarely have his amazing build with his super short back& neck, great uphill build (although, I guess a lot of those- especially the uphill build- are conformation attributes much more highly coveted and looked for in english sport horses like dressage/jumpers/eventers... western ppl seem to LIKE the downhill build? Two VERY different styles of riding I guess! And we look for big HUGE movers with TONS of suspension & lift & ground covering strides in all of their gaits- the more they bounce you out if the saddle at the trot, the better!!! We also love a smooth canter but one that's got a LOT of uphill movement that u really have to work your seat to stay with... it always blows my mind how flat& short stepping & smooth western horses are compared to english horses lol. My dad literally bounced out of my saddle when he tried riding my little Hanoverian/thoroughbred baby in the arena the first time cuz he was a "cowboy" & Obviously just NOT expecting my horse to have ai much BOUNCE in his strides- and my dad is like 6'4 & my lil guy was only 15.2- which is pretty small especially for a preliminary Eventer... But omg I hoooowled with laughter when he just went BOOOING right out of the saddle after barely five trot strides into the canter! Hahahhaha. I told him he'd better stick to his old western quarter horse plug Cortez& leave my poor Atticus alone before he hurt his back!!!) But Borys just had all these wonderful conformation attributes & amazing angles in his shoulders & perfecty angled joints in his legs- well set head & neck... all added up to make an extremely fast, cat like, very talented & Scrappy little jumper!!! But I could totally see some of the horsies I've seen on here that u guys rescue filling out & building muscle to look a lot like my little Borys- and if that was true, heck- maybe I could find my next Intermediate/cci 2 or 3* horse from a horse rescue like this, which is INSANE because even just an Preliminary or intermediate eventing "prospect" will usually set u back MINIMUM $30,000! I'm so impressed with how these horses look after some time and tlc, you guys are incredible at what u do!!!

I had Arabians years ago . But right now where I live it’s not zoned for horses😩. I always wanted a mini horse . When I was younger I was so allergic to horses that I ended up in the hospital when I would go near them . I had horses in my back yard so I was in the hospital a lot . I got tired of being sick when going around or riding horses that I gave up after 20 years . One day a friend needed help with her horses to exercise them . I told her that I would do it knowing that I would be sick . I got there and I couldn’t believe it ! I was Not Allergic anymore . I could for the first time rub my face against theirs and kiss them . So now that I’m not allergic I keep hoping that I could get a mini horse and or a regular size horse . I rescue dogs but would love to rescue a horse someday.

Yes, we used to be located in Northern California. The most animals we rescued back here in Tennessee at one time was over 70 animals you can watch that episode at this link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJaoydVxfM_dgqg.html We placed nearly all of them in 24 hours very thankful for the great networking to help animals in need.

In Canada there is a horse slaughter plant in southern Alberta. It’s just one of Canada’s dirty little secrets. Generally the carcasses get shipped overseas. It’s cheaper to ship a carcass and easier to have it fly under the animal advocacy groups.

I have said this before. Im in uk but am now aware of what happening your side. I think best form of action is to lobby that all horses must have the equivalent of an owner record that travels with them from birth to death. Any sale of each one & before being allowed to be bought for slaughter or put through process - all ex owners should have to be notified & given oppotunity to buy back for price slaughter & outstanding expenses. Obviously proven medication travel expenses etc. Im positive that most ex owners would want to save them. At least this way the amount going to slaughter would reduce dramatically. Its appalling that a horse is worth less than a car which has a log book from time of manufa ture till it ends up in a breaking lot. And giving up a horse just cause its old - No way. If you feel its their time put your hand in pocket & have euthenised at home with you there at least .... dont put them through that aweful process. If you dont know what horses go through take your head out of sand & watch. The vids are out there. Noone wpuld let their babies go through that alone & unloved if they did. I lost my last boy to navicular 30 years ago & to this day i miss him badly ! With email & mobile phones free texts etc theres no reason you shpuld not be aware or given option to save them . I thank anyone for reading this plea & hope it will start something yo thos end.. Heather

@@gentlechaos5911 honestly if they are raised for slaughter that is different. These are people's pets that they have given up for one reason or anouther. Injured and sick animals that need treatment. I doubt the slaughter houses will even treat them and if you look at the condition of many of them they are far too skinny to even be worth the slaughter no good meat one them of any kind.

  • @gentlechaos5911

    @gentlechaos5911

@@JBCBlank I agree that their condition and how they are treated are absolutely horrible and should definitely fall under the jurisdiction of animal protection laws. But how are animals different just because they were raised to be food? And don't get me wrong, I watch these videos because I support what they are doing but I can't really wrap my head around the fact that horses are supposed to be different just because they are pets. Cows are just (if not more) intelligent but people kind of ignore that when eating steak. On a side note: In my country (or even the whole of the EU?) you aren't allowed to slaughter any animal for food if it doesnt have the papers that make it save to eat. If you want to slaughter a horse you need documentation that says it never got any medicine etc that would make it unsafe to eat for people. Or are these horses processed into dog food etc? It just seems really sketchy.

Hi , I’ve just binged watch many of your videos from several months back and I love this Chanel but I feel like you euthanise your horses to “easily” , what I mean by that is sometimes with the right medication, treatment or surgery the horses could live a better and longer life, and I feel like you “give up” to early ( or maybe it just seems like it on the videos) . Keeping a horse on heavy treatment or medication is costly but I’m sure some people would be happy to help with that or adopt them even with those conditions. I wish sometimes you could explore more options or at least tell us what options you have taken in consideration or if you are certain there is no cure or no way the horse would survive. Side note: this I not a hate comment , maybe it’s because I am to weak and can’t deal easily with euthanasia and I do really appreciate the work you do and am grateful for the horses that you manage to save and rehabilitate !

This rescue seems to try really hard with each animal. They consult vets, and staff to see the best options for the animal. Yes heavy surgeries and strong meds might help but at what cost for that animal? Animals that are to weak or old most likely won't come out of surgery alive, and heavy meds on older and weak animals could do more harm than good. If there's a high chance efforts made to save an animal won't work it makes more sense to put it down. It seems harsh bit they don't have unlimited money to use, and a suffering animal shouldn't continue to suffer in efforts trying to save it. I've rescued quite a few animals, and you can't save them all. What seems like giving up is often mercy for that poor animal. When my goldfish developed bad swim blather issues to did everything I could to try and help but it just extended his suffering rather than help him. It broke my heart but I had to euthanize my little Buddy. In humans we often keep people on life support and allow them to suffer rather than giving them mercy as it's only seen as murder. It's selfish to keep a living creature alive and suffering because you feel like you're giving up on it when efforts to help wont help.
