I think a good strategy would be to find the remotes without picking them up so that you can always switch cameras and pick them all up instead of having to give up a camera. Also I think the cameras are other maid bots

Na, you always have INPUT6 to switch to and the timers for respawn are 30-40 seconds or so. As long as you have two spare cameras and INPUT6 you're effectively immortal aside from the timer and it removes risk you goof up and get jump scared taken out on one of the other cameras forcing you to waste time returning to its location. So you only want to leave one idle on a remote camera in the end not all of them. The more cameras you have to switch to the more chances you have to reinsert the tape or get weird bugs.

The animations on the maid are fucking superb, very impressive with the way she moves like a robot and jerks around but still somewhat flowing and graceful. Especially the little scene where she's looking through the broken robots for parts; that's pixar level of animation detail which is pretty rare for an indie horror game like this

At 40:32 it's explained that maids' eyes glow different colors so we know what mode they're in. I'm guessing we're controlling maids as well, except ours aren't evil (the "bad maid's" eyes glow red and is in Alert Mode meaning the factory itself is controlling it.) I'm guessing we can only control one maid at a time, and our maids are either in "Waiting for the Command/Executing Command" mode (green/blue eyes) when we're controlling it and "Sleep Mode" (eyes are unlit) when we're not. The "evil maid" is probably being ordered to attack any maid that isn't in sleep mode or alert mode. (It's probably not smart enough to know when a maid is "dead" so it can be fooled by sleep mode)

@@williamdrum9899 I think it would make much more sense if the one that is evil are the one we controlled, and the red glowing eyes maid is the one trying to stop any maid that is function abnormally (like operating while in sleep mode, or the one trying to plant a bomb in your house?) that would explain the ending in my opinion.

Everytime random interference occurs there is a chance that the maid already spotted you, to avoid the maid to disturb your favorite puzzle the camera is locked while the mini game still going on (usually you could move your camera even when you are at it) so that you wouldn't looking at her by accident and awkwardly switching camera in mid mini game. That's how he know when the maid is already there.

I love how there have recently been popping out quite a good bit of new retro-futurist horror games, It's two genres that go together so well. Atomic Heart, Routine, Control, and now this one.

Atomic Hearth is Soviet Bioshock/Systemshock Immersive Sim and not Horro Game.

The atmosphere in this game is incredible, and it does incredibly fresh things like the movable 1st person cameras, the fast forwarding, and just the creep factor of the maid just... Standing.

@@Mound_Maker Issue is, that it needs to be fast since the game encourages you to swipe through the cameras and needs to have have intended effect with the odes that the player will scroll just like they have the whole game

16:27 This was actually pretty cool, scrolling through the cameras and they all stopped what they were doing to notice you.

I really liked this game, the filter gave it a very good atmosphere and the map itself was a bit scary. I didn't find it that hard after understanding when to switch cameras and I really liked that the robot didn't always chase you, but sometimes just stood still as if waiting for you. Plus, it had a robot maid so it was perfect.

I do like the idea here , unlike other games where you would be hunted by a machine gone haywire. YOU are the broken/haywire machine and the ones hunting you down are trying to prevent you from causing harm. I love games like these where you are playing the villain without knowing it at first.

Manly has insane reaction time. I'd like to see him take one of those online reaction test things. Bet he averages sub-180ms at least.

I don't know who planted the bombs, but I bet the "remotes" you are collecting while playing as a MAIDAI are the detonators. Someone was remotely controlling the maids to make them detonate the bombs...or the maids were doing that on their own due to malfunctions, not sure. The red-eyed maids you aren't controlling are actually just doing their job trying to stop you (maybe getting their commands from AGREST). That's my current theory anyway. Very cool game.

I thought the remotes were radios needed to control the final maid (input 6). Since this technology predates Wi-Fi and cell phone internet they had to use radio as a means of communication for the maids.

Fastforwarding to sprint was pretty funny, I like it. I wasn't sure of what to make of the game, but it's pretty neat. I mean, the cameras have footsteps so maybe you're a group of little security robots. Everyone wouldn't mind a little robo buddy but nobody ever thinks of what could go wrong.

It seems like the MAIDAI recordings and the explosion at the factory happened 3 months (January to April) after they were released. The MAIDAI are supposed to be sent back for maintenance. My theory is that one or more of the workers sabataged some of them to plant the bombs at the company, and the MAIDAI you see might or might not be malfunctioning, but they are definitely on alert. Perhaps they are unable to clearly recognize the sabotaged robots due to malfunctions from not being properly maintained. (This negligence may come from Loocre's poor management policies.) It's honestly hard to tell what's clearly going on due to the nature of "switching inputs". Is it the detective switching cassette tapes? Yes, but could it also be the controller switching which bot they are using to throw off the patrolling bots? Maybe all the tapes are happening simultaneously, but then how do the controlled bots avoid detection by the patrols? Perhaps the controlled bots go inactive when not controlled, and the patrols are searching for active MAIDAI. Idk this was interesting but now I don't wanna think about it anymore. I love the design tho!

I think our maids avoid detection by going into sleep mode. The "evil maid" is probably programmed to attack other maids on sight. But sleep mode looks identical to a maid with a dead battery so it can't tell the difference.

As for all the "glitches" that's just a faulty VCR. The consequences of which aren't real in-universe, the ending we see is what actually happened and the detective is just watching recorded footage.

My thinking is that the specialized dept mentioned in the notice at the beginning was Loocre's goons and those guys planted the bombs. That would also explain why they blew up a transformer several blocks away. To cover their escape and to make sure the plant was shut down.

Man, I really dig the animation in this game. They did a great job!

I thought this would be a goofy gimmick game, but there's a ton of high quality work here. The animations of the maid are really good, especially the clip of her digging through he junk pile. The implementation of the VHS aesthetic works really well too, it actually serves the gameplay and story instead of just being slapped on for aesthetics. Plus all the extra little booklets and newspapers are so well made. Hats off to the devs :D

Apparently it’s a SINGLE Dev?? And yeah, I was also blown away by the animations of the robot, they’re so expressive and fit that balance between lifelike and stiff/robotic. Really really impressed with this solo first time project, just absolute wow factor

MAIDAI robot that haunts the player character doesn't behave like an AI with a certain set of commands. I'm pretty sure there would be no such command as "bang your head against a wall" or "try to reach the portrait of the businessman but hesitate".

The thing is, it isn’t one maid but at least 5 different maid units acting up, 10 including the perspective we are playing as. The fact that the maids are in varied states of acting up makes me think the 6 maids we play as, including the inactive maid 6, had made a choice that self destruction was preferable, or were programmed to do so. Indicates that regardless, this operation wasn’t ran with great health and safety in mind.

It's a bit selfish of me, but I like manly and this smallish community. I liked markiplier most in his early days more as a lets player playing Indie games rather than the public figure he is now. He's still great, just not really my niche anymore. Many fits that niche now.

I think Mark just has an upbeat personality, which mixes the wrong way with the horror atmosphere especially when he unconsciously tries to prevent his audience from getting bored. Manly's chill attitude definitely fits well with the genre. I still follow Markiplier's content but only the collaborative ones. He reacts more accordingly with the people that he's supposed to deal with (like Bob and Wade) than with the general viewer base.

I suspect we're playing a bit meta, we're watching a detective watch recordings of Loocre/Grafft/Doyle sabotage the Maidai with bombs for the insurance money/revenge, unaware the recordings would survive. The maids attack the player for being in manual control, because we're trying to shut them all down to set off the bombs, and thus aren't glowing red. I suspect the villain is Grafft- the names are all meaningful. Loocre = Lucre, means money, he's financing it. Pryce = Price, his business ideas are expensive, he pays the price. Grafft = Graft, defined as the acquisition of gain (such as money) in dishonest or questionable ways, he probably was stealing money or customer info. Doyle makes sense as Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes. This is a detective story disguised as a horror game, and Doyle may be the "author" of the plots events

I think this is the most likely explanation. It seems to me that, in universe, we're just watching the footage of what happened and we're not actually controlling the maids or under any time limit. (The VCR glitches are on our end and don't affect the maids in any way)

@@williamdrum9899 it does have that level of haunted technology in that switching "tapes" or "controls" somehow makes a Maid magically disappear like she's Golden Freddy, but then again they can also somehow move quickly and noiselessly- one camera doesn't have sound, but the only sound we can ever hear is our current' Maid's footprints, not the others. That said, this game is one of those ones that viewers/players in future years will get the wrong idea of how VCR and Cassette tapes work.

I like the mechanics of this one, they seem both unique and pretty well thought out. Though I noticed one thing that didn't seem to work out; it looks like the developer tried to dissuade the player from sticking to one input at a time. When you switch there's a risk of a cassette error which wastes time, and sometimes individual inputs will become distorted, but neither of these effects are severe enough to outweigh the disorientation that comes from navigating multiple layouts at the same time. Still, I love when horror games like this that come up with their own weird mechanics and manage to make all the pieces come together relatively smoothly.

I can't tell what's going on, is each maid you control in a separate part of the building? Or is it possible to move all your maids next to each other? I'm guessing the former, but if that's the case, how many maids are hunting you? One for each of your maids, or only one that can somehow teleport anywhere?

@@williamdrum9899 Each of your inputs is in a separate section of the building. Based on the ending, there seems to be only one enemy maid, but it can teleport anywhere. While I do like the gameplay, I can also say that the mechanics don't make much sense from an in-universe perspective, which makes them less intuitive and more difficult to figure out.

@@EmperorZ19 Yeah I think I saw the enemy maid just appear out of thin air once. If she can do that why can't we just teleport to the big red button? Or maybe that's what we're doing when we switch cameras and we just don't get a good enough signal hence the need for the five radios

I feel as if, much to the design of Manly's interpretation, the game itself is a story of sabotage where other defunct, defective, or susceptible MAIDAI (a key example of which is no.3 that has its audio broken) are being controlled by someone, more than likely an employee or a business owner amongst the dozens taken in by the business before, but then are done dirty by terrible management or something else, and is promptly hunted by a MAIDAI thats been assigned as a personal assistant to the bosses themselves along, which can explain their apt nature to be in the viscinity of their image, or even be a showcase for their business, but most importantly, to keep things tidy and clean, which can be attributed to the fact that despite it being triggered to security mode by several other MAIDAIA acting unaccordingly, or rather, unprompted, it doesn't break them, but merely disables or maybe dismembers them, only to put them back together by the end of it, to "tidy" them up, so to speak, and to put things back to the way they are, although idk much about the part where it wants to hurt itself by using the doorframe as a headrest, aside from that MAIDAI being a prototype and having problems of its own. As a conclusion: still smash 10/10

I think that the maid chasing us is acting "correctly," i.e. how it was programmed. The maids we control were hacked to be used to destroy the factory. Seeing as how the bombs didn't go off until the factory was started up. I think the timeline of events was this: * Somebody planted the bombs at the maid factory. On April 18th they were discovered and everyone was evacuated. Only the maids remained at the factory. * The bombers planned on using the maids to activate the bombs by starting the factory. However, for whatever reason they couldn't take control of the maid in the area where the start button was (input 6). They could only hack the five other maids (inputs 1-5) so the five radios were needed. * However, any maid that wasn't hacked was trying to protect the factory by attacking any maid that wasn't in high alert mode. Those were the maids chasing us down.

"There's your problem, this one was set to Evil." Nice lore details but it kind of sounds like it never worked right but made it to retail anyway... I guess that happens. :\ Excellent art direction, was thinking it was early to mid 90s time period and the documents confirmed that. Very nice documents that actually look like the real thing, too many games where it's like they don't comprehend what media format is.

@@williamdrum9899 Yeah that is a tricky protocol to manage mostly because of all the noise from various other radio signals. Like for example on Red Dwarf their RC robots would go nuts every time a cab drove by the TV studio. :P

@@loganjorgensen And car phones. I'm pretty sure car phones caused a lot of issues because those things were stupid powerful. They also used to broadcast completely unencrypted because we didn't have any standards for that kind of radio communication. Car phones were like HAM radio tier powerful.

Talking to my "smarter than me" friend about it and he figures broadcasts would have be two or three times redundant for errors much like how optical drives work for potential dust compensation. Even said the source signal could interfere with itself let alone other signals. So very rocky. Yeah encryption would be a necessary step but also another aspect that would bottleneck that kind of bandwidth. Security has it's own performance dragging history heh.

Man, this really maid my day. I'm not sure if you take comment requests, but could you play "Bark!"? It's a horror game where you play as a puppy in a stressful environment. ok paused it about halfway but here's my theory so far: A company made these maid robots but they back fired and revolted like most Robots in games. The company shut down and tried to recall and stop anymore robots from getting out and being around real people, possibly harming them. All the cameras you play as are robots within the factory that you have been able to hack into and the only way to permanently shut down the robots is with getting the remotes. The main robot (One chasing/targeting you) Let's call her RBM is the only one that hasn't been able to be hacked/controlled for some reason. I believe the cameras are robots like her because the only time she actually attacks the camera is when you're the one controlling it. In the one shot where she's looking through the pile of parts I believe she may have been looking for parts to "Fix" her friends and make it impossible for you to be able control them too? Also another little theory, camera 3 (robot 3) is RBM's sister or maybe a close friend and that's why she attacks you so much and everything is way harder on camera 3

I actually believe it’s there is a slight twist. It’s a team of robots trying to stop rogue A.I. The only way to stop it, and by extension themselves, they must all self-terminate. Alternatively, there is someone hacked all these robots with remote commands. That is partly why the recordings are ongoing because the events described at the start of the game have *already happened* in the factory, and that we are playing from the perspective of an observer watching the recordings after the events have taken place.

@@gamingforlikes6606 I think that’s pretty much it. I mean, its probably better that the most question is never explicitly answered. Fnaf was far more interesting and horrific when we could only insinuate what was going on. When we have a whole elaborate timeline dictating everything that had ever happened? It becomes bloated and unwieldy. Was it an A.I awakening? Was it a terrorist attack? Were we the rogue units? The fact that the robot stares deeply into the nights sky for a minute speaks more volumes then anything else to me.

The gameplay of Slender the Eight Pages with the atmosphere and distraction/time-based mechanics of Five Nights At Freddy's that lets you see all of the story in a single database menu at the end. This is combining the best of both worlds and making it work well. This game deserves praise.

The gameplay concept is so fucking cool

Such a good atmosphere, interesting gameplay and some neat hidden lore. I agree it's clearly too hard though, I feel they could increase the window of being spotted or make the maids less aggressive to help smooth that out. Still, I definitely enjoyed this. Good take on some analog horror.

I think the premise is a bit odd, the story is very 2010s with its themes of data privacy but is set in the 90s seemingly to justify the VCR aesthetic

I feel like an interesting similar game idea would be like this: You're trapped in facility, and have to wander around to find your way out. There are 5 killer marionettes chasing you, but you have a pipboy screen device that allows you to take control of one of them, leaving your body defenseless but allowing you to see where the enemies are and move them away. The moment you go back to controlling your human body, whoever you just moved will immediately become hostile again =.

This game has a good premise, I'll give it that; The way you have to work the camera and balance between avoiding the maid and not creating a tape error while on a time limit is kinda a neat concept.

Normally if there was something wrong with the tape youd see your picture get lost with the audio and would start hearing the spool and film ribbon flying out of the tape deck or clumping up inside the player itself which was a nightmare to clean up and every person's horror watching their favorite tapes 🤣

I like how you play as robots and not a human. It’s always irked me how these engineers make robots that can easily take down humans, which makes no sense. It’s a maid robot not a killer one, so it would make sense that if we were playing as a human we could just take the robot down.

I really like how the game just drops you in the middle of it without explaining anything gameplay-wise. It makes things feel very disorienting which for a game like this works very well.

It's a bit of a shame the devs went with "obviously designed to look like something you'd want to avoid" instead of something that's more like "designed to be appealing but alarm bells are ringing in your head". More akin to those really creepy "anime maid" robots that actually exist instead of the obvious horror of the design that was used.

_"I can fix you... or leave you crushed"_ I felt bad for the pretty robot maid. And the idea of robots collecting private data without our knowledge or permission is real. Every company says that they don't allow data to be shared, but there was just a news item that showed someone in their bathroom being shared... I think it was one of the robotic vacuums. Map the house, map your activity - all to improve the AI. But where does it stop? This looked like it was a really difficult game, requiring you to react in the blink of an eye. Good thing you are that good, MBH! I wish the lore had been presented differently than long passages of text - maybe a video of a news conference or the internal dialogue between the brothers or employees. Other than that, very unique game.

I just wanted to pop in and say I love your videos and watch them repeatedly. Keep doing what you’re doing!

I kinda wish there were more interesting ways thought up for when she's going to get you. Like if she timed her steps with yours and when you stopped moving you kept hearing steps. Or if set pieces move after you turned away from them. She's already teleporting around, might as well make it more paranormal.

Sounds like a good episode idea.

It is not a horror game - everyone who is down bad.

This is a good spin on the classic slender/freddy formula. By running 5 sessions in parallel a death is not really a death, so the main difficulty seems to come from keeping your orientation. Which is nice as a total package, less screeching and no real relief as the show must go on.

One of the biggest mechanics I figured out is that entering certain rooms teleports you around, for some reason. Knowing this made the game a lot easier.

It's just not the case. The only "teleport" is when the robot catches you and drags you to one or (one of) two predefined spots on the map (there are 5 maps, one for each input)

It's like a blend between Weeping Angels and FNAF. I love the concept, but there's still some work to do. The frequency of the errors gets silly.

Let's all thank Manly for bringing to light various obscure indie games from which much "cultured content" may be derived.

Honestly, I think I'd hate having a robot maid. Maybe I've seen too many doomsday sci-fi films, but I really don't like the idea of something robotic, yet human-like and able to move around on its own living in my house with me.

I think there are multiple Maids and the camera's switch control of them. We are finding the remotes to shut the maids down, hence why we lose the camera when a remote is found. When we are not controlling the maids they're just trying to do their own thing. Like searching for parts or banging their heads against a doorframe. I think that's why Camera 2 is so cracked. Its maid is trying to bash her own head in.

Crazy how "Robot maid stalks you" can be used as a negative statement nowadays.
