I work in a funeral home. It no longer becomes a "comfort the family, remain detatched/professional" type thing with kids. It becomes personal, even if you don't have kids yourself. It hits way harder. You're used to working with adults and the elderly, not children.

Profound human suffering is a lot of things…. Horrifying, shocking, confusing, confounding, painful. One thing it isn’t is “interesting.” There’s nothing I hate more than suffering and I can’t imagine being inside the mind of someone who can manage to be ambivalent to it.

It's worth noting that the people who would pay to see those autopsy photos wouldn't be paying to analyze them scientifically, but rather to be spooked, like it's a god-damn horror movie: they feel curious and want to look at the horrible images of a murdered kid, not because it would be interesting to analyze, but because they know it's traumatizing and want to feel that fear. What gets me is that I think she knows that, and when she saw the autopsy photos she must have thought to herself "Ooh, this is gonna be so spooky! People will want to see this!" And I bet she was right about that, sadly.

I really don't think that "spooky" should be the word used to describe the feeling someone gets when seeing a little kid who was hurt, over and over again, by someone who was supposed to take care of them. Just because she did not specifically ask for autopsy photos doesn't absolve her of not reviewing her source material. And she asked for everything, which will of course include autopsy photos. Suffer the societal consequences of earning dollars based on freedom of information requests. She is trying to have it both ways. Seeing the body of a child whether you're a judge,a cop in any field shakes you,you always remember. Her excitement is disturbing and you're fully correct in calling it out. The system needs changing ,the fact she could even get them and put them out is horrific.

Public records requests are *supposed to be* for freedom of information, and accountability of our police and court system (ie., does the evidence they say exist actually exist?)... NOT for youtubers to turn into entertainment and paywall. That is the opposite of their purpose.

The accountability it has created is the reason we even have a society that has survived til today. It works way better than you think it does. Thousands upon thousands of court cases are decided justly and fairly every single day, and millions of potential crimes are _not_ committed because people know they'll get arrested or face legal consequences. But fine, go ahead, watch the news and see criminals (and a relatively *_FEW_* unfortunate innocent people who fall through the cracks) complain and shout at the sky about about how "the entire court system is messed up." Yeah we can and should do better. But just like I say to people who complain on their keyboards about the upcoming generation while refusing to become parents: If it's broke, how bout _you_ fix it!

Well put! I almost never venture to true crime channels im not familiar with, because every time i do the tone is so disingenuous its sickening. They seem more interested in the psychology of the killers rather than the memory of the victims. A few key points I look for in a respectful true crime channel is titling the videos with the names of the victim(s) rather than the killer, researching what the family has said on who the victim was, and leaving descriptions of SA very vague. These are very good signs that the channel puts time and effort into respecting the victim and their families.

Regardless about how you feel about autopsy photos, the fact is there has to be a certain level of depravity within you to do something exploitative like selling the private autopsy photos of an eleven-year-old boy and not see anything wrong with that. I've had to see autopsy photos as part of my EMT training, and it was always, ALWAYS, shown with massive respect to the dead. Hell, unless it was a discussion of facial injuries, we almost never even saw their faces, so that their identity would remain private. What she was doing was absolutely disgusting, and I only hope that the family can heal from this.

Honestly most of the people that work in the fields with this sort of stuff (injuries/death of adults and children in the most brutal ways) HAVE to look at everything in a scientific way, but they go home and think about some of the worst cases for years. EMS workers have paid therapy most of the time even tho it's their job it's still mind and heart shattering being exposed daily

i'm interested in true crime because it is actually helpful with finding out who could or could not be trusted. most of the time it's very obvious, but a lot of times it's the people you'd never suspect. Thanks to true crime and just trials in general i've found out and learned that my mother is not to be trusted because of her narcissistic behaviour. I felt sorry for the jury, family & law enforcement who had to look at those pics. I can't even imagine a normal person wanting to look at something as sad as a murdered child.

As someone who has a background in forensics and the medical field-I could never imagine thinking this was ok. I’ve seen many victims of crimes and the defense of her looking at it from a “objective/scientific” perspective is ridiculous and makes me so angry. I used to work at a funeral home, in particular transfers. I’ve had to take children in my care multiple times. Every time I try to remember a certain child all I hear and see is the family members wailing. How someone could willing want to see let alone pay/ charge for photos that should only be available for official purposes is beyond me. I promised the families their loved ones would be safe with me and that includes not giving any information about them or their deceased loved ones to anyone. I’m so sorry this child is getting exploited in his death. Let the child rest. He died in a horrific way.

@@gilliesiut2332 I don’t think anyone is disputing the fact that she was legally within her right to request those records, however, with these kind of cases, especially when they involve minors, those photos are sealed. The Watts case also took place in CO and there’s a reason why you cannot get those photos, even if you request them. Obviously this is strictly a morality issue (for now anyway). My hope is that the public outrage will cause other states to follow FL’s suit and exempt autopsy photos from public record requests. You can watch the trial, read the autopsy report and study the body diagram if you want to get a better understanding of the case and Gannon’s injuries. The photos are not necessary and no one should be profiting off of them.

Even if she didn't show any pictures of the boys body, she still saw a tragedy as nothing more than an opportunity to get some extra money and promote her patron. She saw something awful happen and only saw profit. That is absolutely disgusting

I always knew that regular people can get sensitive information like that, but I feel like they tell you you can't duplicate, share, or sell it?

I remember Gannon’s murder and one of the saddest, most disturbing parts (to me), was when the stepmom kept talking about how sweet and kind and helpful he’s always been to her. She didn’t have a negative thing to say about him. I can’t remember if this was in the interrogation or like a news clip from when she was pretending he was missing, but she sounded genuine when she said it. She seemed almost surprised about why anyone would want to hurt him (like she couldn’t even believe she did it). I know it could be an act but it seemed oddly sincere, which makes this even more tragic. I mean, there’s obviously never a motive to kill a kid, even if he’d misbehaved, that’s not a green light for murder, but according to her he was a great kid. And then she google searches things like, “I hate my stepson.” It’s such a fcked situation

She had followed the situation for years actually. Also the trial is over, which makes all this so much worse. The trial is over. We all already heard the awful details from the medical examiner. It was devastating enough the first time. There was absolutely no reason for her to request and post the pictures. There were diagrams she could have used. The family of Gannon asked her to take the pictures down, but she didn't until Patreon did it for her. Just disgusting...

At that point it's just poor taste on her end. Reality is grim and fucked up in many many ways and we can either silence reality / keep the internet squeaky clean and masturbation-friendly, or protect the rights of people like this to disseminate fucked up pictures obtained through legal channels. Honestly I'd rather the internet include the ability to see horrors like this than to not; because without the barbed edges we just have advertising and purported moral highness (Carbon Neutral Since 2007!) despite shoveling equally yet different forms of mental torment in its many vague forms. I dunno, seeing 700 articles telling a denomination of men that they suck and are responsible for all manner of atrocity is pretty exhausting and the ignorance of climbing suicide rates proves that there's double standards everywhere. I've sat through a coroner's detailed description of someones autopsy who was murdered in court. It made me immediately understand why news and others don't show it. Seeing how traumatized the friends and family were... There's really not a need for that level of detail for a true crime channel.

At first I thought well maybe she didn't realize they were in there, but she HAD to know, she had to go through it herself.

I remember when Explore With Us just started promoting their patreon for access to uncensored videos, etc. cuz YT hates true crime and anything that discuss morbid stuff. There were people on the comment section that were disappointed that they DIDN'T SHOW GORE like autopsy photos and other stuff. EWU posted an apology in their community section to the people disappointed BUT HELD THEIR GROUND ON NOT SHOWING GORE. This whole situation is literally the opposite of what EWU had to go through.

Regarding the records requests, you CAN make an open records request for just about anything, Dash cam, body cam, reports, etc. But usually it costs $7-10 and they can also deny it. Not only that but usually a lot of personal information is redacted.

Rest in peace gannon. Im so sorry your story has been exploited in such a way. Knowing that people out there actually agree with her opinions sickens me to my core.

It seems like balancing on morality to get gruesome never-released-publicly images (meant to be used as proof the police didn't fake evidence) and then using that for monetary gain. Even if they blur it. Because as soon as you post something like that online, then the victims of the family/friends have a higher chance to stumble upon those traumatic images or for an unhinged subscriber just sending the family/friends those images. Basically what she did was unnecessary and will only result in her profiting while the victims are retraumatized by imagines that were not originally already released to the public or leaked.

So much to unpack here... I got curious about the autopsy records request process in CO, specifically in the county of jurisdiction where this happened. First, I thought these records may have been obtained through the County Public Records or Court Clerks Office, but exhibits of that nature would be restricted- and if it wasn't then wtf? So I looked up the process for autopsy records requests and it looks disturbingly easy, though I'm not sure how she would have gotten them without lying about her relationship to the deceased based on the following criteria: "This request needs to include your name, relationship to the deceased, name of deceased, date of death and information to get the report back to you including address and phone number." Oh and also: "Homicide autopsy reports are not released without written approval from the District Attorney’s office." I'm not sure if additional verification is required after the form is submitted, but autopsy reports are public record in Colorado. Super gross that anyone would be requesting them for entertainment... like, the only people who should be requesting that information who doesn't already have access to it is maybe family? News reporters I guess? Anyway, however she obtained them couldn't have been honestly or someone really effed this one up at the County. Either way, abhorrent behavior... Tried to go to her page to see if this was a one-off and, absolutely unsurprisingly, this degenerate is all about finding and exploiting the details of people's most tragic loss and exploiting them for equally complicit *checks notes* 87k cohorts. Ew.

Med examiners still have more empathy than that. They have to try with all their might to buckle down and find out what happened, but it’s still traumatic. It’s NEVER easy for them. It never gets easier for them, so they force themselves to only momentarily detach to do their jobs..

I accidentally saw a picture of a murder once and I couldn’t sleep easily for days. I genuinely don’t get how she lives with herself knowing that she exploited a murder victim.

It doesn’t matter in the SLIGHTEST how she thinks she views the photos in a “scientific” way. What matters is that it is instantly disrespectful to the family and the child to look at and spread the photos, no matter how “scientific” you look at it.

i can't imagine the pain someone would feel losing their child, knowing that a parent's worst fear is outliving their own kid. and the fact Gannon died in a horrific way as well. Not only is the mother horrified and mourning her son but knowing some random woman on youtube just made people pay for photos of her dead son??? some of the most evil inhumane shit i've ever heard. RIP to Gannon.

@@TemulonWHY would she want to sell them, though? really, she is not a close friend or family member of the victim, and personally I just don't think she had any right to display any of the photos in the first place. the people wanting to buy them are just as nasty, absolutely, but this does not mean that she deserves to be defended. what she did WAS morally wrong, there is no good side to this story.

Someone is interested a case? KACHOW, right in the mouth. You don't get to access public information of cases, which are a public interest, this is fed territory now. You wanna share a picture online? KACHOW, right in the groin. You don't get to post your stuff online, you will give us your information, so we can protect you from harm - you are obviously too dumb to understand privacy. Or in short: Public information is OK, and it's exceptionally well handled by paywalling sensitive content like that - it's part of the case, and if stuff can be removed, then she'd be accused of lying ... as would the police.

What Charlie is doing is addressing the situation to let it be more known. What this woman did is wrong and if people just let it slide, she won’t face consequences.

@@AnalogFunktion That wasn’t his intention though. During the whole video he talks about how it’s wrong. And I’m pretty sure her Patreon has been taken down as of now. Or at least it should be. Just don’t accuse him of doing wrong when his intentions were good.

There was a point in my life where I considered working as an autopsy assistant but then I realized there would be children and the thought was too depressing.

Same here, but in my case I wanted to work in law enforcement and make my way to being a homicide detective. I couldn't deal with the idea of working cases that involved children

Yes, I agree it's very depressing, but I want to be one as there's not a lot of people working for forensics that much making a decline in the jobs. I like to think of it as being able to help & serve justice to those that have been affected & the victim (if i do crime autopsy's), and giving closure to friends n family in being able to give a "death diagnosis." Sad, yes, but someone outta do it & i volunteer.

I wanted to be a cop at one time, until I realized that sooner or later I'd be dispatched to a murder scene or an accident scene and would see a child and I would never recover from that. A former boss of mine used to run a mortuary/funeral home and he operated as a pickup specialist where he would be called out to scenes to retrieve and engage the deceased. The horror stories I heard from that man would make the strongest of constitutions dissolve immediately. He remembers in vivid detail some of the most horrific scenes he had been called out to and let me say without the detail he provided...you'd see one of the many he had seen and would've called it a career the next minute. How the sweet Hell he managed to do it as long as he did amazed me and still does to this day (may he rest in peace). In the decades that have passed since I had that urge to be in law enforcement, I have seen some dark shit on the internets and now have become so desensitized to gore it's unreal...but even thinking about seeing kids all dead and stuff still horrifies me. I don't know what it is about humans that we can deal with so much bad stuff including mangled corpses but as soon as it's a kid all bets are off and we are all different people.

Those children deserve to have their story told, which includes a well performed autopsy.

Even though these stories are sad, and drop my mood down quite a bit, I think Charlie bringing light to these situations is a very good thing.

I knew Gannon, I went to preschool with him. He moved away and his parents got divorced. It’s disgusting what happened to him. I hope his stepmother rots in prison for the rest of her life. I feel for his mom and dad. RIP Gannon.

it’s so sad how desensitized people are, or say they are, nowadays. i listen to a lot of true crime but i refuse to look up photos of the people being talked about because it feels so wrong to see them in the last moments of their lives. they should be remembered for more than that and to think it’s okay to have people pay for it is appalling and shows how brain dead people are.

She's the kind of person that would dig up a grave and charge people to see it.
