Horrifying child abuse case: Can the children recover?

A Milwaukee couple faces multiple charges after their two children were found roaming the streets naked and covered in feces. Their mother Katie Koch and her boyfriend, Joel Manke face multiple counts of child neglect and imprisonment. But as they deal with the legal side of things, many wonder what the children’s future looks like now.
Last Thursday, July 13, a neighbor spotted two children on the street in Milwaukee in such bad condition he thought they must have costumes on.
"They had a bunch of bed marks on them and they had no clothes, totally terrified,” said Rick Eder.

If the damage is done during the first 7 formative years it can rarely be undone.

The people who want kids can't have them and the people who have them are horrible parents

Let’s be real. The prognosis for these kids is terrible. Children with this significant of trauma are basically doomed to struggle with severe mental health issues and addiction. These kids have been given a life sentence. It’s time for the country to stand up and give child abusers the same.

If these children commit a serious crime as adults, no one will care about their childhood except their defense attorney.

If the neighbors didn't know that they even had children in the house, then they're lying. The boyfriend may not be the biological father of the children, but he still had an obligation to seek help when he saw the deplorable conditions these children were being subjected to. He chose to live there and ignore it, so he is just as guilty. The adults look sloppy and dirty. Is this what they think is normal ? Both of the adults should do jail time, especially the mother. She should do a year for each year each of the children were subjected to these conditions. It should be mandatory that children who are home schooled be seen each year by a medical facility to ensure their well-being, so cases like these are caught before damage is caused to the child. They should also have to go to a school setting near the end of each school year to be accessed to make sure the child is at grade level and is actually being taught. This would give at least two opportunities for neglect and abuse to be caught, the medical could take place in December or January, and the educational could be done in May or June so the year is split in half and the children are seen by some kind of professional every six months. As a society, we need to ask ourselves what kind of members of society these people are producing ? Left to these abusive situations, they surely won't end up being productive members of society one day, and we all pay the price for that in one way or another. These poor children are more likely to have a greatly decreased quality of life. Being a parent is an obligation . When we decide to bring another human being into this world, we have a responsibility to give them a chance at a decent life by giving them love and guidance, making sure their needs are met and ensuring that they at least have a high school education. If you're not willing to be a parent, then don't have children , it's unfair to the child. Keep your legs shut, problem solved.

I was severely abused until age 10. I am 40. Haven't recovered yet. Multiple suicide attempts. I still have nightmares. Ect. Children dont just recover. They never really get over it. I never will.😢
