For me, I have to love the gameplay cause no matter how good the minis may be, if they don’t mean anything to me because the game doesn’t play well, I wouldn’t want to keep them. Presentation or theme gets attention but the gameplay us what keeps people coming back. Love these ramblings either way! Awesome content! Cheers.

If you remove the plastic inserts to most of the med-large bigatures in the game, you can safely store the entire game in about 5 boxes. Sure, that sounds like a lot, but compared to 12 boxes, it's an improvement.

FYI, Aloy doesn’t come with the base game, only Kickstarter exclusives.

Hi Alex. During your first multiplayer play, pay attention to the fact that the ennemies have a turn between each hunter. The rules are not so clear on this point and we missed that at the beginning. Here, we had a lot of fun playing just the base game with family ( in semi-coop, as designed). Generally, I like more complex games but this one is a nice go-to game with few unregular gamers/friends just for an afternoon, rolling dices and leveraging hunters. I have to try it again solo another few times with expansions but it definitely no desserve the bad press it has if played as a hunters competition (and not full co-op, it is not designed for that).

Wow, the amount of empty space in those expansion boxes is ridiculous. Surely they could have joined some of the expansions together to reduce SKUs and plastic etc. I love the IP and this looks incredible with a fantastic stark white with gorgeous art on top. Just feels like way too much KS bloat. Glad I passed on it ages ago

Would you consider storing all the minis for the entire game in a set of plastic drawers to simplify set? You could store the human minis in tackle box organizer.

no, I ended looking at the most recent video with regards to this and he hasnt played all the boxes and will get rid of this game lol SFG sent him all these boxes and paid him money for him to do just an unboxing which was kind of pointless I own this game and I like it. I recommend you get the core only and try it yourself. I added a few variants myself and this game is very engaging now. My go to

I'm curious what the black covered boxes are in the kickstarter trailer? Were they just for marketing or were they the limited editions for the kickstarter? There seemed to be only 3 of them.

By the way, when you couldn't remember her name, that wasn't her anyway. She doesn't come in the core box. She is in the kickstarter exclusives box. What you were showing was "Generic member of her tribe" model.

Reminds me of Batman City Chronicles.

Guild Ball was an indie scirmish game from a small english companie offered on SPIEL ESSEN like 8 years ago or so in very small amounts. They sold the game a few years ago. cheers

I sold most of the not ks exclusive stuff than I bought everything back because my partner loved the game....now I'm looking at the half painted thunderjaw and cry....DAMN YOU HORIZON!

Cant say enough good about Godtear. Definitely worth a go (though go straight to 2 champs vs 2 champs or 3 champs vs 3 champs, 1v1 doesnt give you the proper depth).

The amount of boxes in that game is frightening, 😆

A game I wanted, I needed and because it was on kickstarter, I will now never get.

No loss on this one. I got it and I am disappointed. the miniatures are not good.

the mimis are frahile af. For the price that is inacceptable. Do not buy this crap. I bet by now there are ppl selling SLTs for 3d prints. Save money for a printer then either create your own sls or buy those instead of guaranteed broken miniatures.

Hope to see the review including some expansions. Heard it is too grindy for a board game, the same as Dark Souls. People don’t mind doing it on console but grinding on a board game with 3 or 4 of your friends? Hope those expansions fixes it!

Wish I could just have the Minis and nothing else for a reduced price. Or for the same price but painted.

thats a crap load of boxes, if you don't end up keeping it, that will be a ton to ship to someone, lol.

Would love to see your review vs the negative press it has from "no pun included"!

The list of games that don't get negative press from NPI is very short. Even games Efka recommends have a very dreary, negative overtone to them.

I've come to the conclusion that Efka sets out to explain why his opinion is a strong one / correct, rather than informing the viewer of how the game plays and letting them decide themselves. At front and centre of this is his (and ditto SUSD's) starting position that most crowdfunded games are overpriced rubbish excepting the beloved Gloomhaven. Hence the channel's coverage of crowdfunded games tends to be a reinforcement of this overall opinion, with inaccuracies / slanted commentary common. Good for those that have a chuckle at the genre being mocked, but it very much can come across as a sneering attitude. Aside: that's one of the reasons I appreciate Alex's coverage - My tastes are no more aligned to him than Efka/Elaine, but I trust he's describing the game honestly, with him understanding that others may have a different overall opinion to his, and he's trying to be genuinely informative rather than being an 'influencer'..

@@iansutton7416 I think you're describing the difference between an "overview with some opinions" (what Alex does) and a "review with some overview" (what Efka does). They're useful in their own ways; Alex for quick hits, Efka for in-depth analysis. Personally, I prefer Efka's reviews as I don't think any channel is as well written as his.

Ian nice summary. I never saw it like that. Alex lets you decide if a game is for you while Efka/SUSD shoves their opinion down your throat and allow no others.

In that other video, he said SFG sent him this game so he likely wasnt even interested in it in the first place. I.e. how do you not know who the main character is? lol From expansions I recommend you start with Sacred Land, Forge and Hammer and Frozen wildlands (currently on sale at SFG) , I also recommend you house rule the game by limiting crafting to once per turn and increasing the health of the enemies. I play this solo all the time and its my favorite game once you make difficulty and variety house rules

It took me and my whole family about a weekend to learn and personally that's the biggest turn away for this game. I have played the base game only as one player with each character and played 3 player simicoop 2wice with my family now. It is supper fun and my mom loves it. My dad had fun but got frustrated because of the type of game it is (each card adjusts things). I personally absolutely love it and if you can get past the Learing phase, I thi k it is completely worth it. Side note- it would probably have been quicker to lear. If only one of us read the rules completely and then taught the game to the family and addressed the rule book as needed.

I backed the game. - Yes, it is insane. - No, I haven't played it yet.

I did get it as a gift because Horizon is kinda my thing, and my mom and I Love it. i have played it with 4 people so far and I really enjoy the competitiveness of going for the most glory. I have a friend group of 4others and I want to try playing it as a group of 5 where one person is a GM running all the monsters. my biggest complaint with the base game is that if you break the scanner of a scrapper, it alerts them, defeating the purpose of why I targeted the scanner. my biggest love with the base game is how the machines act surprisingly true to the Video game. I very much enjoy it, it just takes a bit to set up for me to play it solo. but the few times I have, I enjoyed it.

Bloodborne is one of my favorite video games of all time, it is certainly not for everyone and it does not have to be. You do you, life is short. Play the things that you enjoy.

I'll be honest I got mine months ago and it's the first Kickstarter I've ever received that I kinda ended up hating. The miniatures are great but the gameplay is lackluster and the rules were very hard to learn. In my humble opinion, steam forged hasn't had a hit since guild ball.

I really like it. It's easy to teach and flows along at a nice pace with a neat deck building approach. The game tho is in competitive play esp with 3 to 4 players.

SFG still need to work on their darn big boxes of minis...you will be stacking 3 CMON games, while stacking 1 SFG game...that is one thing I think SFG needs to look into. Not only is freight charges getting more expensive with such... it takes out needless space, and i don't wanna sing the environmental tune.....but less materials will be used.

I had this problem with Primal KS. It was just Monster Hunter. If you take a look at the Curse of the Sapphire Feather expansion, any MH player can tell you that that is definitely Mizutsune. They didn't even change the color or what not. A lot of the other monsters and mechanics were taken from MH as well. Which is sad.

That's because Monster Hunter was the primary inspiration for the game, as mentioned in the kickstarter. So they took the overall look and feel of it and altered it enough to avoid copyright problems. My problem with Primal was similar to what Alex said: the rules do not make it easy to table the game. I can very easily explain MH World the boardgame to anyone quickly and barely any questions will pop up. I'm not sure I fully understand the rules of Primal myself.

@@SheepOfChaos yeah I understood what Alex said, and I went with another route. Did you take a look at the expansion and Mizutsune? If that is altered "enough" then I dunno where it stops.

It will be interesting to see what you make of it, and I trust you'll give it a fair and reasonable assessment (unlike one popular UK channel which seemed to delight in trashing it, but that's something they do rather too often). Not a game for me, but I don't enjoy seeing someone ridiculing a game for giggles/views and I'm glad that's not your style.

I have heard not very good things at all about this one unfortunately.

The trash?! And here I was thinking that they went to a nice shelf on the Gamers Ranch... 🥺

Oh I did....but I also find them super critical of games I know full well I've enjoyed...I don't think this is there genre of game.

i was so tempted, the game seems bland and no campaign was the push away, but man everything looks pretty. I know SFG are great for pretty things, gameplay is iffy

I only have the case game currently. But. The lack of campaign is by no means a problem, it creates a serious of fights and you and your hunting party kinda make your own story. That's my input.

I have the base game and one expansion The Sacred Lands. Im enjoying the game now that I have more machines to go up against. Can't stand the semi coop aspect. I only play full coop or solo and have a blast trying to figure out the best way to manipulate the machines.

You must play competitively as if you are trying to be the best hunter at the expense of he others. Then the game is really fun for us. Semicoop is a poor description of the gameplay.

Very useful unboxing video (and the rambling was interesting, too). My first exposure to Horizon Zero Dawn was Adam Duff’s review of the art book on his LucidPixel channel: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gp-VsKeamreTe84.html I found the world that Steamforged Games created to be very fascinating, somewhat along the lines of Monte Cook Games’ Numenera RPG, so I was quite interested in seeing what you had to say. But, like some others, it seemed to me that this game was quite overproduced for my tastes, too much shelf space required and too many minis (I’m really getting tired of them). I may consider the base game after looking into it some more but I would really prefer something like this to use acrylic standees printed with images from the art book and game: wonderful art, more compact shelf space, and no unpainted “hordes of minis” on the board. 😉

This game is a MASSIVE letdown. I backed it for the miniatures. The game was delayed so much that the second Horizon videogame came out. Stores got the game before backers did. When the game FINALLY arrived one of the big miniatures was broken out of the box. And the miniatures are SUB PAR they are nothing like what was advertised. They look like they are sculpted with chewed gum. By the time I got this combined with the issues all my enthusiasm for the game was gone. If you want this for the miniatures SKIP IT!

I am sad a didn't buy, but i am happy I didn't buy this game 😂😂
