I love this plane, I flew it again last night, my first low light flight...... I have to say, for me, even though I'm a complete beginner, this plane has been far more helpful in learning to fly than my one session on the apprentice trainer..... this plane flies beautifully, but a bit more of a challenge and more capable than a trainer to keep things interesting, and to me that's what I love about it.

Brian, Megan. Y’all are spot on. I would like to add, If you can put it in your budget, get a RealFlight simulator and fly fly fly with the sim especially when the weather doesn’t permit flying outside. It will pay you dividends honing those pilot skills. The best part of a sim is if and when you crash, you just tap the reset button at no additional cost. Buddy boxing is great too if you have the opportunity to go to a club flying field. I personally taught myself how to fly by using high wing trainers and the sim. Just keep at it and don’t beat yourself up when you crash. Keep at it and one day it will just click for you. 👍😉

Absolutely, and around here, we get a lot of bad weather days, during winter, in particular. We fly in CRAP weather, since we can come right inside after we're done sweating or freezing our tails off...but when you have to load up and drive there and back - this enhances the impacts of poor weather....simulators can and do help a lot, but when I was new, I didn't get anything out of it...only frustration. It was like using drugs without any high - LOL ;) I felt it was too easy to walk away from the PC or the Cell Phone, and just move onto something else...but again, that's just my experience. Everyone has different reasons for what they do and why they do it. I just love doing it now ;)

Thanks for the great videos and advice you give us. After many many years of helicopter pilot I wanted to try my hand at piloting a plane. I tried the Cirrus V1 (blue) and a second hand radio dx7, I was delighted with the realistic flight and also low speed with 50% flap help .... but also in aerobatic flight it does well. The improved V2 certainly more performing. A really good plane. Greetings from Italy.

@@BrianPhillipsRC so sad to see feuds like that happen! The problem is the market is small and they probably want to be the top dog. Both companies are great. Of course not every product is great but the problem people run into is they buy a plane that isn’t so good like the aerscout mini they never flew anything it crashes and they think the rest of their products will fly like that. Clearly that is narrow minded. I think if I had bought a decent plan like the thunderbolt 2 or the Cessna airliner 30mm ducted fans I would have loved 🥰 horizon hobby and eflite from day one.

Hi Brian, first off I love your video's, can you do one on how you fly low and slow. I am watching you fly the Cirrus and it very cool to be able to do that. I have been practicing with my Apprentice STS but it is not as easy as you make it look. Keep up the great stuff-thanks

  • @BrianPhillipsRC

    @BrianPhillipsRC

    2 жыл бұрын

With lots of practice this comes pretty easy. The key is to keep the plane flying...meaning, keep the nose pointed where you want to head...so if you turn, use lots of ruder to keep the nose from pointing UP. Also, when you slow down, get into the takeoff flaps, and when you slow down more, use landing flaps. Most people don't play with flaps unless they're landing, but they're a huge part of slow flying. Also, be very cautious of how fast a plane can get out of the hole and respect it by getting into throttle earlier than later, when you think you might be entering into a stall. One last thing, make sure you're leading the plane when you fly low...you will be flying near obstructions, so make sure you're looking about 5-10 degrees in front of the plane. You have to switch back and forth from the plane to in front of the plane, and this too comes with practice, and flying known locations helps a lot too. You can do it, but just remember, it's a higher consequence style of flying.

@@edwardlistander2961 I would add one more thing, which is get the plane up high, cut the throttle and hold the nose up until it stalls, with and without flaps, straight and in turns. This will show you how it behaves in a stall, and what speed it stalls at. To get out of the stall just point the nose down and add power.

I don’t know if you plan to do a 50 things about you, or at least a video that your community can know you a little more. Another thing is, why you have never tried nitro airplanes or gassers. Would you consider sharing thoughts on collecting a “quiver” of planes that is reasonable size and covers the spectrum of different flying experiences that are out there? Perhaps a half dozen aimed at intermediate (or different perhaps different quivers for beginner intermediate and advanced pilots) pilots? Thanks!

I wonder if they will release the blue version again in the future? I am new in the hobby less than 2 months and somehow already have a few planes so the last thing I probably needed to do was buy another plane but after watching some other videos of this and the Cherokee, I personally felt like the Cherokee was right for me and a touch less expensive as well. Maybe I'll pick up a Cirrus down the road to be a hangar mate to the Cherokee as I also love general aviation and realistic looking and flying airplanes. The fleet includes an FMS 1220 Ranger and it's twin step brother the BlueJay, and the Arrows Trekker and Tecnam 2010. Still boxed up and in wait as later graduate planes I have the 1400 FMS Sky Trainer 182 and the HSDJets 2 meter version in red. I LOVE 182 Cessna's! I am a high wing guy so the Cherokee will be my first low wing plane. Maybe next spring, I'd like to get a T-28 in the hangar as well as an XFly Twin Nova if I can find one. My Ranger and I think the Tecnam 2010 both have floats and I am looking forward to trying takeoffs and landings in my in-laws large pond soon for a new aspect to the hobby. Love your channel and all of the great content and camera crew's recordings are some of the best I have seen. Kudos!

Thanks, and congrats on a large fleet of amazing planes for only a couple months deep in the hobby!!! Keep at it, and you're right, the Cherokee is easier flying than the Cirrus SR22t, but the nose gear is less forgiving on the Cherokee, so make sure you're putting her down on the nose gear. Are for bringing back the blue, generally once a plane is "discontinued" they don't ever really make one in that same livery. There are some strange exceptions, like the recently re-released P-47 V2 ( P-47 alnk.to/7X2KL7a ), but since it's one of the only times we've seen it, I would make plans to pain the RED one if you can't live without the blue finish ;) bprc.me/Cherokee bprc.me/CirrusSR22T

@@BrianPhillipsRC I agree the Cirrus is arguably the sexier and sportier choice, but I felt like I would do better for now with the larger, deeper wing shape of the Cherokee and it's slow flying characteristics. I'll focus on landing on the mains which is what my other tricycle gear planes are teaching me. I had one incident with the Ranger so far which has already taught me all about the use of hot glue, toothpicks and even servo replacement, lol. Having a blast so far.

I used to do it all the time. It's pretty easy in real life, but a huge pain to film... I steal BEC power from the Aileron servo wires, and then run an led on the wingtips. Tail lite was a must too, so I'd pass some motor windings wire through the fuse and really keep the weight down. This works well, and for that wire, I'd just tap an unused bind plug, rearranging the pins (sockets) to line up with +V and GND rather than SIG and GND

Hi Brian, Thanks for everything you and your wife are doing for the hobby! I have a question about trimming a plane. Do you have a rule of thumb on when you manually adjust the trim after you have trimmed it with the radio? For example, if the radio trim is plus/minus 10, do you then make an adjustment to the control horn? I am working within an AS3X environment. And then I assume you should let the plane do the “dance” after the adjustment to recognize the change? Thank you!

I only worry about trimming g mechanically to recenter my trims, IF I have something like 1/4 or more of the trim used up. This is a preference issue.

Awesome plane , waiting to Maiden it . I watched all 3 of your videos on this plane. Your unbox build was great 👍 but set up was a bit confusing 😕. Mostly on radio set up. Once I completly re reading the manual as far as getting thrust reverse working all should be good. Suggesting LIKE Magen noted: set all planes up the same . Gear and AS3X and Safe should always be on the same separate switch so if and when needed you don't flip gear up or down instead of trying for recovery panic mode / Safe and Flipping the wrong switch. ( To each there own ) I get it , but your set up had me saying Holy shit : to much jumping around. I'll rewatch .on my computer instead of cell phone so I can clearly re play many of your settings over a few times so I can keep up. If all else fails just read the manual. LOL I'll have it ready to fly when I return from camping next week. Keep em' coming👍

I assume most are watching on a PC, forgetting that many are using tablets and cell phones. My apologies. Keep in mind, the Radio Setup for this plane is almost EXACTLY the same as the Commander mPd, if you'd like to watch that one instead. To be honest, there just IS a lot of jumping around...so since we film the real process, and not some refined "corporate talking piece", it necessarially looks messy, because it can be. There's always something to "remember" and that's kinda annoying. If I weren't doing this for KZread, I'd spend 4-5 minutes and setup a plane while I'm swapping out planes ;) It does eventually come somewhat second nature, but I find that doing it gives me a better understanding of where switches are, and what they do, so there's less guesswork when I get in the air - a very valuable, plane-life-saving commodity I want to have, and suspect you enjoy too ;)

I would vote for the Apprentice. The Cirrus is an amazing plane, but it's faster to fly/harder to land than an Apprentice. Plus, the beautiful scale details are going to be more work to fix in the inevitable bumps and bruises of a new pilot. The Cirrus as a 3rd or 4th plane... definitely! Never mind Brian. I just watched your review of the Cherokee and you clearly emphasized that it is not good for tanking off on grass unless you are on golf course style grass due to the low propeller clearance. Oh well! I guess I am out of luck for getting either one. Rats 😢

Thats great!! i want also the viper 70mm but the cirrus is so cool with his scale leds and stuf! I mainly fly in the evenings. That's why I thought the Cirrus was a bit more fun to fly at a nice scale. And than the viper is maby a little hard to see. Greets from the Netherlands! 😊
