One big monster/mech as an opponent with various smaller units floating around the map (maybe randomize these or something?) And have various tasks the rest of the army incapable of actually fighting the big bad can accomplish ie: a squad of Incursors blowing up a bridge/support beam to limit the Chaos Knight from closing in on your artillery, a squad of Bladeguard escorting a tech priest to an offline AA gun to deliver a massive blow to the knight but there's a Chaos Terminator Squad guarding it. Meanwhile the Chaos Knight is getting crazy random buffs based off which of the four gods is blessing it this turn. Could be some fun times.

That would be a fun thing to add as an option; if you roll doubles on your roll, add a unit from another Imperium faction table (depending on availability). So while you've been mowing down hordes of IG... then a Questoris Knight shows up because someone rolled double 6s.

Secondary Objective: Team Mascot - Add a nurgling or other chaff-equivalent model to the center of the battlefield. The horde will prioritize attacking it if possible this turn. Succeed with this objective if it survives the next attackers turn. Success: Everyone gains 2RP, A random player gets a max-size squad of the mascot. Failure: All players must remove 4 infantry/mounted models or 1 vehicle.

I have a group of friends who have been passively interested in the lore of 40k but, with many other could-be-seen-as-competitive games, have a mean streak of “veteran player wants to teach people how to play -> veteran stomps new players to the point of unfun -> no one wants to play that game at all, with or without veteran”, the classic “Im just logging into the minecraft server and youve already gone to the End” dilemma. I think this is going to be a great way to teach people how to play without being salty and learn the game mechanics, and it genuinely sounds like a fun gamemode and am excited to try it. I’m probably going to draft up a list for all the armies my friends enjoy playing as and then try to take them into TTS and muck about.

I'm not yet far enough along in my warhammer collecting (or painting for that matter) to do any playtesting for this, but I absolutely love this idea. This is such a cool way of playing through big lore events like the fall of Cadia or the burning of Prospero. I would be really interested to see how an asymmetric deployment layout would play i.e. deploy in the center with horde spawns on the corners. It would really amplify the "last stand" vibe, but I'm worried it would be too difficult to fortify.

we just started a 40k group in work and it's a very mixed bag of experience when it comes to play. I am totally suggesting this as I think it's actuality such a great idea for the reasons ye mentioned! Looking forward to this now.

I'm so excited to play this I was sold on the concept from the title alone but damn the rules look brilliant. I've phoned some old friends and we're gonna play a game with a guy who hasn't played since 6th.

This is a great framework for my LGS Crusade campaign going on right now. Setting is a Tyranid invasion and some of the Tyranid players have gotten to the point where they have 5k crusade rosters. This would be a good way to have multiple defenders play against those players.

This is outstanding, I have semi-recently moved to a swing/night shift thing that made Mon-Tues my weekends instead of Sat-Sun, this might allow for meaningful interaction with the hobby as a solo player usually and with others on those rare occasions it works out

I've already got an idea to play this with a mate. We've been having a few games between my K-Sons and his Votann, but we could quite easily slap his Necrons into the mix and suddenly the nerds and jocks need to team up against a bunch of sleepy skelly boiz. We've also got another friend we're wanting to get involved more in the hobby so def worth experimenting with him

As someone who has been playing homebrew Horde Modes in 40k with friends since 3rd edition (just did a Horde Mode Helms Deep with my best friend a couple months ago), I will be all over this and hopefully I'll have enough time to play a few games and give some real feedback over the next little bit. I love the ideas of multiple formats! :D

I've been watching you guys and listening for about a week and a half now just kinda binging your content when possible. I enjoy your banter and the visuals of your videos believe I subscribed only a few days before commenting. However i just started painting models, not just Warhammer, when you explained the game in a few episodes. I was interested but have no friends that play nor an army and I haven't reached out in my community to connect with anyone, yet! After one previous episode I had the thought of a horde style or big boss battle style homebrew, if you can't tell now that I'm a D&D Forever DM, this video sealed that i wanted to create my own and play your mode. Thank you for all the information I've learned from you guys and the fun!
