    Exactly. I hope to have one myself within a year. Fingers crossed. It sounds like we may start seeing them in charter fleets around the world soon. Great little vacation “homes” for couples and small families!

    Great Interview, thank you. It’s interesting which advantage electric motors on sailboats have. I never thought about advantage of winterilisation but for sure it’s easier and lithium Ferro has no problem with low temperature

    Yup! I ordered mine and should be picking it up this spring in Miami. Can’t wait! No more shaky engine mounts, diesel fumes, all that maintenance for engines! Just water and waste winterization, super easy! Oh, having a 12v AC installed, so I’ll have to drain that also.

    Hi Paul, I'm from Cape Town and been following from the start. Love the concept and hope to sail on one in the future! Would love to do a European canal tour for a few months and even the Med. Let me know if you have boat avail for few months for advertising 🙂

    There’s one up for sale in Miami next week actually. Brand new. Owner couldn’t take deliver for medical reasons after waiting 9 months+. There’s something called a SmartYacht, if that doesn’t work for you. Most of the space is down stairs in the hull. I’ve been in one, lots of head bumping and stairs that my knees don’t like. But closest thing size and price wise. Has an electric drive option.

    What are the engine specs on the motor only version, including pricing. What if I don't want a mast & sail but would prefer a kite. I am just interested in getting between Trinidad and Tobago

    Hey, sorry, I’m just a KZread. Did you reach out to the HopYachts team? I believe it’s the same as the sail version, but with more batteries and fold out bulkheads. They’ve very flexible builders it sounds like, can make it whatever you’d like that fits in the hulls.

    Yup! Just plug it into the shore power inlet, strap it on to the transom, and you have a very efficient hybrid! I’m adding a 420 watt wind gen, so I can get a few kWh extra day mininum, even when sleeping or during storms.

    "Condo on the water." They should use that in their marketing. "Houseboat on the beach." Do you work in marketing? Surprised you didn't go over the regen capability when it's under sail.

  • @ZeroFun

    @ZeroFun

    Жыл бұрын

    So, it turns out, regen under sail is a little over-hyped. Specially in a sort of hybrid sail/EP boat like this. You don't get much/any generation until 5 or 6 knots, which is about the most you'll get under sail alone in many conditions. However, with excess solar power, just a few hundred watts, added to the sail speed, you get 5 knots all day long easily pretty much. So, I'd rather have extra batteries that aren't E-Propulsion branded (they're required for regent with E-Propulsion pods) and enjoy motor sailing all sunny day long.

    I think "Condo on the water" was my best work also. hah. My wife hates boats, but I think if I can time tides, beaching this thing for a night or just an evening could be enjoyable to her. No bouncing around.

    I was surprise they are not using a heat pump for heat and cooling the cabin as well as providing hot water. It is far more efficient than resistive heating while also being able to provide efficient cooling.

  • @ZeroFun

    @ZeroFun

    They didn’t have heat/AC back then actually. But they added an extremely efficiency AC system for the American market. It’s DC and only pulls about 300 watts when cycling on. The water heat, yeah, it would be nice. I’m not sure they make tiny heat pump water heaters though!? It’s only 3 gallons or something barely enough for a single shower.

    If you put in a generator that would be possible, but than you have to carry again fuel.
