HopYacht - Designing the floor plan

During the design process of our new HopYacht 30 we realised it wasn't simply about building a better mousetrap, but more importantly about creating a better environment for the mouse!

The solar panels are the bifacial ones?

Pedro hi ... we currently use Sunpower Maxeon 3 panels which have proved to be really efficient. However, we are keen to see how well bi-facial panels will perform on yachts, especially given the reflective GRP surface they are mounted on. Do you have any info you could share?

@@paultomes2 hello, I thought exactly that. mount them on a very reflective surface, and there are some that are made with the borders of glass too. I think they would be good for laterally diffusing light at sunrise or sunset. based on what has been said, the bifacial plates increase the effectiveness of the panel by up to 30%.

Incredible consept, seen the trial video and wish you all the best. My thoughts though are implementing some changes as an option: High/low transum for dingy/beachclub with a reversible cocpit sofa (so you can sit and lookout over the sea if you wish. And I would absolutely have a bigger galley inside. Why? Because I think you have no limites to mileage and as a couple/single this could be the absolute best around the world little yacht that one could buy.

Thank you Rob ... Love your ideas. The current Hopyacht in production has a reversible cockpit seat and fold down bulwarks to increase the floor area of the aft section of the cockpit. We designed the boat based on our own experience chartering yachts mainly in the Mediterranean, hence the external galley unit. For colder climates however your thoughts of moving the galley into the saloon are very valid and we need to look at that. The boat is not currently rated for blue water sailing (CE certification category C) however our sailmaker at North is determined to enter the Cape to Rio Race in a Hopyacht!
