Here's the thing: when your whole life you've been told by the people "above" you (parents, older siblings, teachers, managers, etc) that you're "weird", "difficult", "too slow", etc then yes, this is the reaction to "I need to see you in my office". I wish I had someone guiding me through social settings everywhere in my life. My husband is crazy helpful, but sometimes I get frustrated trying to explain this to him because his ADHD was diagnosed as a child and his family was loving and supportive and got him resources. My AuDHD was diagnosed as an adult, after we had our first child, so I'm still researching and learning about how to work with my brain instead of hating it.

@jimwilliams3816

It is in fact a coping strategy! I’ve come to the realization that coping strategies can have both upsides an downsides. Anxiety has kept my inattentiveness from causing as many problems as it might over the years, like checking obsessively that my keys are in my pocket, or gaming out every possible problem and how I might respond. It pays some dividends, only thing is checking constantly that I haven’t lost something has fed my hypervigilance. Relaxing a bit helps with the hypervigilance, but if I relax at all then I lose and forget more things. Sigh...

I don't think it's classified as a symptom of ADHD, as it's more like a comorbidity than an actual symptom. Because ADHDers can have it (and many often do, sadly) but it's not a naturally occurring symptom - it's more like a trauma response to social rejection/ostracisation, bullying, abuse, etc. ADHDers who haven't undergone any social trauma/abuse/rejection don't develop it. Just us "lucky" ones 🙃 But having ADHD does make us more likely to develop it, due to the fact that having ADHD makes us more vulnerable and sensitive to bullying.

I am nearly 47 and relate to so many of these videos. Any little thing and it spirals out of proportion in my mind. it's awful.

Me too!!!
Pretty much every video feels like a snapshot of my life. I've decided that I have to talk to my doctor about ADHD on my next visit.
One thing I've ALWAYS hated is "We need to talk later". I will spend all day overthinking it, it knots up in my chest and becomes physically painful.
I’ve recently found you and I want to say thanks. I have honestly sent several of your videos to friends and family members who just never understood things about me that I have never been able to put into words. This one is a big one for me. Again, thank you for sharing
I feel like a weight is lifted off of my shoulders learning I'm not the only one experiencing this. Thanks :)
I do all of these and I remember this girl who was in my friend group but always acted like she didn’t like me. (Cursing at me, yelling at me, telling me to go away, etc…) and she was like “go get me an ice cream” I did it and when I came back with it because I really wanted that feeling of getting approval and she goes “god… you’re like a golden retriever :/“ and I go “thanks!” To which I’m immediately met with “wasn’t a compliment” before she continues talking to someone in our friend group. Never quite understood why that was bad but at least she got her ice cream :D

In my experience, if people are shitty to you on purpose, not being phased or still being happy is why they can get mad. But it also means they aren’t worth your time because they’re purposely trying to bring you down. Keep being a ray of sunshine and focus your attention on the other people that matter :)

To be fair, every time I've ever called someone a golden retriever, it was a compliment, soooo. I think she just didn't realize it's actually a compliment to call someone a golden retriever

I also had a strange encounter with someone who used it as an insult too. They combined it with the r word and asserted the breed was stupidly obedient ergo i was stupid. They seem like a pretty capable breed to me. I've worked with several. Maybe these people are confusing disposition with intelligence... which is ironically kind of dumb, lol

I suspect many of us ADHD-ers were treated like garbage or straight out bullied as kids because we tried so hard to fit in and make friends? Well, I sure did. It only got better once I stopped caring, which probably is not ideal either lol. But even now, almost three decades later, my RSD still has me freaked out with stress when I have to interact with people for work.
Why is this me 😭😭😭 A few of my friends say I have ridiculous anxiety and bro this is literally everyday

Ok but also bossed should not be texting you after hours and giving you cryptic messages about early meetings. I eventually just stopped letting work notifications to my phone because I had toxic admin who for sure did it as a power trip.
I’ve never heard of RSD, but after seeing your videos on it it has helped me to understand why I think that way in those situations and that I might have it.
Literally my everyday struggle summed up in a one minute video that most people would actually be able to understand Thank you for making these videos as I'm sure I'll be sending them to people when they have trouble understanding some of my strangeness well at least to them it's strangeness I like to consider it quirkiness because I'm a glass half full type guy
There are many helpful informational channels relating to ADHD, but yours has really gone in depth with relatable situations that have truly helped me better understand my psyche. Having been diagnosed in my late 20's and only a few years into some sort of treatment, you've helped me understand just how many of my 'normal' behaviors throughout life have been attributed to some extent to this diagnosis, and am now working to recognize and intentionally/actively/promptly try to correct the behavior. Thank you SO much!
This is like the first time I’m hearing about rsd, I think this is why I’m triggered and get worried about stupid stuff all the time. This is rlly helpful thank you for posting this
I thought it was a people-pleasing problem. I am always trying to smooth things over.

Wow I think I may have that cause I’m constantly doing that especially if they type my name first I start thinking they’re yelling at me and are upset with me etc…. I didn’t know it was a thing . I have been learning sooo much from u thank u I always wonder why I am always so scared now I know
Here's the thing: when your whole life you've been told by the people "above" you (parents, older siblings, teachers, managers, etc) that you're "weird", "difficult", "too slow", etc then yes, this is the reaction to "I need to see you in my office".
I’ve been called over dramatic so many times, and I’ve always thought I was, I never thought this could come from ADHD, I’m getting tested for adhd soon, and I just want my world to make sense.Thank you for your videos!! They make me feel not so alone
Literally every single time I see one of these shorts I think “my god, there’s a NAME for it??” They’ve all been so specifically relatable
You are a godsent for people like me who've had one too many bad experiences with therapists. I'm learning a lot about myself here.
I like to tell people my anxiety is a super power that allows me to overthink any situation, I feel better about it when I think of it that way

Sigh...
Anytime someone says that they need to talk to me it automatically just goes worst case scenario possible
Everytime I watch your videos I learn more about why I'm the way I am.
you are amazing at articulating these situations
Did you record me? Holy shit 😂😂😂 I legit sit in boxes at work when im stressed because it “contains the chaos”
this almost made me cry. it portrays my frequent experiences to a T.
This helped me so much now I can explain to my friends and have them be more gentle and careful
Her stuff is so accurate! I can show her stuff to NT people to explain myself.
My least favorite thing is when you ask what they wanna talk about and they just won’t say what it is. Drives me crazy
I want to say thank you again for making these videos! It's the first time I've ever had the majority of my symptoms mirrored to me by anyone with an actual resolution of what it is. Thank you! I hope that RSD is part of the ADHD. If not please let me know

I really love how you list the symptoms and give examples in a real conversation.
I experience this every single day, and never realized it was a thing others dealt with too. I'll get a negative response on something, and just start looking for another job. Well until I get distracted.
I needed this. These are SO damn relatable.
I'm actually crying. I've lost relationships because of this and I've always thought I was just impossible.
Too relatable... again. Why do I always see videos like this that are too relatable.
I just looked this up to see what it was. Symptoms are eerily similar to what I experience. Thanks for pointing these various issues with ADHD out.
Omg omg 😱 I finally have an answer to why I do these things now thank you so much 😊

ok, but the way you’re phrasing it, out of the blue, just like “but have you actually been diagnosed with it? Like by a doctor?” Is coming off harsh. And you’re doing it on multiple comments. It sounds like gatekeeping, and you don’t need to do that all over the place. Plus, is it really your business if they have spoken to a doctor about it?
Seriously Olivia!!! Thank you for showing me……me! Always thought there was something wrong with me, know I’m beginning to understand at my old age
I thought everyone freaked out about having to see the boss. Like a whole come to the principal’s office feeling.
Thank you for this! Well done! RSD is something I'm battling with too. It very hard for me to think that people like me for... well... me. I always feel like I'm doing something wrong.
I felt this too hard-
I thought it was just me being an introvert 💀
Girly you know I’m your 500th comment, thanks so much for teaching me more, I was never really talked to about my ADHD but this is helping and I’m really understanding myself more!
I literally was freaking out like this and i ended up getting a raise
Your videos are honestly so helpful
Thank you for this video! It explains a lot. I had this happen to me at work. I got into an argument with a coworker and she reported me. When my boss came to visit the both of us, I figured I would be in trouble. I actually got praised but tbh, I thought it was a joke.
I just learned about this and it makes me feel so much better. I genuinely thought I was just crazy...
i did NOT need to be called out like this today
So many of these hit home.
❤ Where have you been all my life 😢 You help me understand myself. Thnk u.
I can relate. The worst is when people text with a tone
Stop this EXACT situation happened. The email seemed dry, I was like IM GETTING FIRED!! I got promoted 😭😂
Omg, yes! Every time my boss wants to talk to me the first thing that always pops into my head is “oh no, am I getting fired?!”
I literally had that last week. My boss scheduled a meeting in a few days later. Imagine everything that went through my mind. 4 years of possible mistakes I could have made passing through my mind and then when the day comes, I got a promotion!
hardest part of ADHD for me :-(
Ok but actual I can't believe I've been doing this for so long 👀👀 its so cool to finally learn this thought process has a name lmao
Everything you show has been me thinking « oh I’m just being selfish » or « I’m being narcissistic! » etc.
Omg this is such a good example of how my RSD messes with me.
jesus christ i kept shrinking back every time it got more and more relatable 😭
Any text from any authority has me feeling like this
Judging from the fact I almost cried over this and can perfectly relate, imma go look some things up…
Well this sums up most of my anxieties. Adding this to my list.
I did not relize this wasn’t just my anxiety freaking out
The worst part is that I was in a toxic relationship for a long time, so I'm used to my anxiety being right, so now I can't convince myself my fears are just RSD
Things are starting to make so much sense now
I love how my managers always add in their meetings "you're not in trouble" I always thought it was funny cause I don't do anything bad so I shouldn't be in trouble but I do always assume I'm in trouble. Though I'm told 'I have no notes for you, you're killing it.'
I went through a break up and I got a job interview that day aswell. I was sitting with my friends haveing a lovely time and then I just go YESSSS! This is good. They go what's up I tell them I've just got a job interview that I didn't think I'd be accsepted for so I'm glad I have the opportunity! X
Literally me when a co-worker already told me I was going to get a promotion, and I still freaked out when my boss asked me to set a meeting with him ;-)
Thank you for naming something that was hard to explain
I... I didn't expect to be called out this hard today
You make my problems seem more normal
I literally had to have my step dad call to set up my car inspection and oil change because I needed to know if the shop could replace or repair the vent shunts for the air in my car. I figured the answer would be no, and the fear of *that* paralyzed me. This is a really good representation of rsd & I'll be sharing in
Lol this is so me. I got pulled in to the office the other day I literally thought I was being fired and I ended up with employee of the month.
I am so glad I have higher ups who recognized this early with me (whether they know the name of it or not) and whenever they call me in always (at some point) say I’m doing a good job. It really makes my life easier at work.
Ever time you pop up for my I feel called out 😅😅
I wish my mum knew how much I relate to these videos 😪
I knew about RSD but I never associated my work thoughts like "I'm not doing enough someone is going to yell at me for getting distracted or not finishing up this other project instead of these projects" even when NO ONE has said anything about this for months I'm always worried they're secretly thinking I'm a terrible employee
Lmaooo I thought I was crazy for getting so nervous! I hate when bosses wanna talk🤦♀️
The way my fingers went numb with anxiety when she said what the text was at first and me just imagining it being my boss- 😭
I feel like those people who start hearing common symptoms of some neurological disorder and slowly realize that it's describing them perfectly, only I know I have Adhd and Autism
And then it turns out to be too good to be true as always
I always feel like I'm being over dramatic but like that wVe of anxiety is absolutely CRIPPLING. I have stress seizures so thats usually what follows if I can't calm down.
This feels so personal
😂😂 this is so me. I managed a few years ago now to have a shower dry and change all within one advert break of deadliest catch.
I’ve never felt so called out in my life 😅
This was me when my boss texted me that I had been doing a good job lately.
Had this situation, only my boss wrote me up for not answering the phones three months prior when her daughter was standing in the way having a conversation with them. Funnily enough, it was just a week before I would be getting a pay bump, as we agreed in contract. I did my last shift and quit that day. There was more horrible crap going on, but that was just the last straw.
I create the worst case scenarios all the time. My boss told me last week she needed to talk to me and I immediately thought I was getting fired.
I seriously saw this while panicking about the fact that there was supposed to be a phone call with me and my friends and now I am scared that they will say something. And while I am at it yesterday I freaked out because I hung up too early and then I was petrified of going to school because I thought my friend would be mad at me yet instead it was just my fear of going to school.
I started texting my bosses/supervisors back "what's this about" it let's me know what I need to be worried about at least. Lol
This is so amxing thank you for all your videos!!!
You have no idea how much your videos on adhd have helped me! I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 29 and I’m now 40 and STILL learning how this affects me. It also helps me with my youngest who has it too. Thank you so much for your hard work on making content for us! 🫶💕
Holy cheese doodles! This is me. I panic any time a superior says they want to talk. Had this happen a month ago where the COO asked to speak with me. Turns out he justed wanted to know if we had any baseball game tickets available.
It’s bad that I relate to this, I already have adhd and anxiety, I don’t need a third thing on top... hopefully I don’t have it
Your content makes such a difference in my life, I appreciate you!!✨
