The character on the clip says 'Qin,' in the style of writing used during the Qin Dynasty. The characters on the cap band say 'Hongdian,' in that same old writing style. I can't make out what is engraved in the piston knob from the video, but on the nib and feed is Hongdian's logo--a stylized writing of the character 'hong.' Not sure if you are interested, but just FYI...

I love your pen reviews when they’re just pen reviews, but I am always rather enchanted when you take the time to share your travels or to provide extra context and stories to enhance the reviews. Videos line this are really special. The end of the piston looks as if it might work as a stamp with ink or wax. I really enjoyed this thoughtful review.

Thank you for another great review. I always enjoy the background information or tangents you bring. As for the mysterious lines in the cap under the gold overlay, it is a map of the central China at the end of the "Warring States Period" where 7 major states remained in contention. You can actually see the names of the states in Chinese in ancient script. Qin conquered the other 6 states between 247-221 BC and unified China. I think the patterns on the gold overlay are Qin and the overlay over the map symbolize Qin's domination over the territories it conquered. The pen is like a puzzle....

Whoa... the green one is pretty cool. I'm usually not a fan of overly complex designs, but this one leans in so hard that it loops around to working for me.

That's a bit too busy for me, even though I have a soft spot for Hongdian; their Black Forest is maybe the first fountain pen I bought when I started in the hobby, and I'm happy to keep it in my office along with my Preppies as a knockabout desk pen that always writes.

What an interesting pen, and thanks for going the extra mile in giving the details and history of the pen.

Yes, with so many keywords you could be searching for a refrigerator and that pen would pop up. Great pics of the terracotta soldiers site, wow! The pen wrote nicely, always a plus for a pen.

nice review. I believe the meandering lines beneath the metal overlays on the cap are supposed to be a map of the alleged borders of the warring states of that period.

If I remember correctly, another reason for not unearthing the emperor is the mercury. They had some belief that mercury would preserve the body and it is written that there are rivers of mercury there. Hence there is fear in the amount of poisonous gas present in there. Last I heard, archaeologists were using tech to map out and get a better idea of what is inside before planning on what they would do to safety excavate the site while preventing the exposure of outside elements and its collapse.

Doug at Inkquiring minds mentioned the cap represents the warior's helment. Perhaps,, the line underneath duplicates some leather protection underneath which mught have been stitched together.

Let me suggest that the meandering groove you pointed out might be a representation of the Yangtze River

Additional colour of Blue/golden, purple/golden now available. In some foreseeable future, this series will be like rainbow family. Hope Emperor Qin, underneath, will be liking it.

Greetings from Australia. Thanks for the video. I love these pens so much that I have bought three of them (green, black, and red). The pen has an ink window which you either missed or forgot to mention? I suggest that you have a look at the Hong dian N7 blue peacock and N8 red maple leaf, these pens can be bought with a Long Knife nib which is an architect's nib. Hong dian are putting China on the map as pen makers who are not blatantly knocking off other designs.

How cheap does it feel to hold? Like the Scrivener, I though that felt really plasticy and cheap metal.

To me, it has more of a "solid weight" feel rather than a "cheap weight" feel...if that makes sense.

Very ornate pen. I like it though. I do wish they used the same nib on the D1 that is soft than this nib.

I'm not one for minimalism but this particular line of pens just doesn't quite scratch my itch (though most metal pens don't). I wish more brands would mimic the resin style of a brand like Benu in different shapes

The thing with this pen is: too busy! It tries to jam all possible historical elements into a 14cm pen. Imagine three women gathering in panty.

One thing which I constantly see in Chinese pens: they do not provide any other sizes of nibs than EF/F, because in China they are not needed, so who cares for customers outside of China. Well, if they do not care for my preferences...

Jinhao, asvine and majohn provide EF, F, and M. Asvine nibs are among some of the best steel nibs being made at the moment, amazingly wet and provide a nice bounce. Wing sung has 14k nibs on the 630, 600 models with about 10 different sizes/grinds available similar to an architect/ naginata so maybe it's time for you to revisit the chinese Market?? 😀

@@bendunbar8334 That's a dangerous suggestion, as Asvine V126 in frosted black and amber are blinking to me every other day! :) I like Kaigelu Medium nibs, I have put them into Majohn M800 pens (two!), they write _almost_ like a Broad. But I still hope they will one day release real B/BB nibs, in newest Hongdian N11 rhombus or swirl it would make reach for my payment card.

Pen is ok, but I am not interested to add this to my collection. Prefer the regular classics: the Pelikan, the Montblanc, the Pilot, the Sailor, the Lamy, the Platinum, the Waterman, etc.
