    I’m not saying the VC isn’t impressive because it most certainly is but the breathtaking artistry, ,engineering, and design language of this Reverso is absolutely mind blowing. What’s more is it accomplishes this level of avant-garde design while still remaining classical and timeless. One of the most amazing watches I’ve ever seen and while I love what JLC does I’ve always felt their designs were missing some little something. Apparently they were saving each one of those somethings to put in this watch. Just glorious.

    I'm in awe of the beauty and engineering genius involved in the design ideas and then actually being able to build these masterpieces. But as I listened and heard them say how the reality is that you'd never really use most of the complications. Id love to see someone design a watch with the idea in mind of adding complications that people would actually use fairly regularly. I'm trying to think of some right now and it's tough, so that would be the real achievement in thinking of what people need on a daily basis that could be turned into complications.

    When I was buying a replacement rubber strap for my Ikepod chronograph in St Moritz . I was shown a watch containing 3 Tourbillons located at different saptiial angles. At that time retailing for about 700 K Swiss Franks. I guess that would be a good contender in this area. Never being able to have one it's fun seeing and knowing about such time pieces.

    Of the three watches here, the JLC Infinity is my favorite, while the Happy Days watch is my least. Diner kitsch is just that, it's kitsch. My hat is off to the watchmakers for engineering this marvel but sticking a jukebox in the Louvre doesn't make the jukebox a masterpiece.

    The Reverso is gorgeous. I think the fact that the base of the watch should be counted as adding at least 2 more Complications one for each side if not more than 2 seeing the challenge of transmitting power and information between the movement where that transmission not only has to swivel but also slide when the movement is flipped! Also in terms of aesthetics, the Reverso wins handsdown. The VC looks kind of like what you guys described at 1:50 ... running out of space and just fitting this function here and that over there and squeezing the other in that corner under that and this.... etc. The VC may have more complications but just complications for complications sake does not make it beautiful. The opus 14 is complicated in a different way and yet the design language gels well just like the JLC.

  • @CheesyCore

    @CheesyCore

    2 жыл бұрын

    I wont say its a modern antikythera mechanism, since its a very outdated mechanical technology that is meant to show craftsmanship more than anything else. its a 50's antikythera mechanism for a modern day antikythera mechanism on your wrist, strap your phone to a band and download something like skysafari you have a skymap throughout millions of years sun and moon (and plenty of other stars) location relative to earth and distance. again throughout millions of years orbital paths of thousand starts relative to other stars your phone also has perpetual calendar that adjust to century leap years, which is yet to be done on a watch in history it has minute repeater, in multiple of languages memovox, multiple simultaneously even split second chronograph, and split minutes, and hours, and even days if you want it is unbelievable impressive what jlc has achieved mechanically with this watch. but it's absolutely not a modern day technology and is far inferior scientifically to what we got today

    I've really been enjoying this new format, it has a very Derek and Clive vibe.

    If I could choose one it'd certainly be the JLC... But the Midnight Planetarium by Van Cleef and Arpels is still my favourite

    That was a very thoughtful piece. I think it’s an inspired move by Swatch to democratise a high end watch brand. And it’s just *fun* and playful- and we could all use some of that now….

    Please start adding Navigation through your videos + always write down the name + nr, I find myself often searching for watches you are talking about without knowing exactly the name or exact ref. nr. Thanks, great work - kind regards

    As long as the moon phase and time are correct, the tide level indicator should work correctly, you probably dont need to set that separately since tides mostly vary based on time and the moon phase!
