Hong Kong billionaire's last interview as a free man - BBC News

Jimmy Lai is the billionaire owner of Hong Kong’s last opposition newspaper, Apple Daily, and an outspoken critic of Beijing.
On Friday he was sentenced to 14 months in prison for unauthorised assembly - for participating in two protests in 2019.
Mr Lai is one of the most high profile people to be arrested under Hong Kong's new national security law, as China tightens its grip on the city.
the BBC’s Danny Vincent interviewed the man prepared to risk it all by speaking out.

@Jasmine A million marched peacefully and thousands camped out for weeks. Violence escalated because China's leadership only knows one rule: Obedience. Obedience from the masses means nobody holds the executive leadership to account. What do you reckon the average net worth is of China's princelings? And what is your net worth? 🤣 you can never change the system or the authorities, accept your station in life.

The protestors even set an old HK man on fire for criticizing the protestors. They would mark and smash shops owned by "Chinese" (just like Nazis did to Jews). So much for freedom of speech! Woke Generals at the Pentagon get their priorities strait. Biden is absolutely a racist based off of the things he has said and done over the course of his entire political career. If any other candidate said a single one of his slip ups their campaign would go up in flames before they walked offstage. Please don't act like the pathetic "I wish things were different" was any actual admission of guilt or regret. The Main threat that we face is, that everyone honest knows, is the Chinese Communist Party. Their Economy will soon Outpace ours, China now has the largest navy on the planet. WHY DO THEY HAVE THAT, why would they feel the need to build it? Does that have potential consequences for us? Yes. If China moved against Taiwan how exactly would this woke mess of a HICOM, a Pentagon, respond? More likely if China was to close international shipping routes it would cripple our economy. If they decide to shut down our internet it would bring our lives to a halt. If they decide to occupy Malaysia, that would be grave concern to the world. Why did the democrats give China back their stranglehold on manufacturin after Trump had the balls to strip it from China? Why was Trump, a Republican, the only one to have the guts to call out China’s containment camps that are still reeducation millions of Uigurs (Chinese Muslims) on the scale of WW1 camps in cruelty. Why was Trump the one that had the guts to call out the Chinese owned News. If China moved on Taiwan, Built the canal in the Balkans, advanced on Japan or South Korea, moved on India, Occupied Malaysia, raided American bases in Brazil, expand into the Middle East, GAINED MILITARY ACCES IN CANADA, Mexico, the South China Sea, the Philippines or even Vietnam, our close friends. What would this woke pentagon do about PATRIOTS IF WE DO NOT DO SOMETHING, THIS NATION WILL FALL TO SOCIALISM AND THE WORLD TO COMMUNISM. THIS IS THE TIME TO FIGHT, THIS IS WHEN THE TRUE PATRIOTS MUST PUT EVERYTHING ON THE LINE FOR AMERICA AND FOR THE CONSTITUTION. I am against racism. Joe Biden was for segregation, wrote and passed the 1994 crime bill which negatively affected minorities for decades. He is the definition of systematic racism, having been in politics for 47 years, pretending like trump, who has been in office for four years has created his (Biden’s) problems. Trump has only worked to undo the nasty policies passed by Joe Biden and the historically racist democrats. The party of the KKK. Oh, and the Republican Party was formed by free Black slaves, and Confederates were hardline Democrats

@@tiago7720 Oh yes, global warming is a hoax too. They tell us snow melt will overflow our oceans. Do you realize the ocean level is actually a little lower than it was over a hundred years ago? That is according to measurements taken at Fort Denison in Sydney Australia. Ocean levels rise and fall, but have trended up about 3.15 inches over the last 140 years. It's not a problem. A major reason the billionaires are scamming us is because their RINOs & Dems can't win elections without scams. One popular KZread personality says keeping people in their homes was the way the U.S. military was taking over cities in the middle east. Business shut-downs destroy the economy to weaken the people. Shut-downs kill more people than covid because of addictions, suicides, poverty & empty shelves. Hundreds of doctors say covid deaths are being way over counted on purpose. Many kinds of covid scams are being reported. People have even reported testing goats & papayas and the test showed they had covid. Even with masks, flu numbers didn't go down last year...hmm. The CDC admitted that less than 10,000 people died of covid alone as of 8/30/20. That's less people than die of the flu. If you die of a heart attack and covid, they count it as covid...to SCAM & ENSLAVE YOU. Hydroxychloroquine is excellent at stopping covid. Oh they couldn't have that so now pretend it's a dangerous drug...even though that drug has been used safely for other purposes for decades. WE WILL NOT TAKE THEIR EVIL VACCINE. We will insist that our doctors follow their hippocratic oath and prescribe hydroxychloroquine. We're also hearing great things about Ivermectin, such as it is as safe as Tylenol, can cure covid illness, and can be found cheaply at your tractor supply store. Mail in ballots do not require an ID like absentee ballots. The unionized Democrats in the post office can "lose" boxes of ballots from Trump areas and there is no way of knowing it happened. One top Democrat came forward and said he lead teams of people who used many scams to cheat using these ballots. Dems will keep using covid and claims of racism to increase the amount of mail-in ballots, just so they can steal more elections. Billionaires like Bill Gates are wringing their hands hoping to stick one of their "vaccine" needles into us. Bill was the man who started common core education to dumb down and brainwash children. His MSNBC currently brainwashes adults. On video, Bill's wife is seen wearing an upside-down (Satanic) cross on her necklace. Bill could barely contain his excitement on video, saying the next pandemic WILL get attention this time. Bill has one patent application with the number 060606 (666). He has another patent that contains Luciferaise (Satan's former name was Lucifer). Expect Democrats to try to force us to take the shot in order for us to go to our jobs. DO NOT take that shot.

Mr. Lai. You are in my thoughts and prayers as are your family, your staff and their families, all like minded people around the world - past and present. Evil triumphs when good men (people) do nothing. You and all who walk the walk and talk the talk like you are the reason freedom and opportunity does and, in China's case, will triumph. You humble me and give me something to strive for. Love yourself so you can love others. Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

In 2003, over half a million people took to the streets in Hong Kong against a proposed security law that rights groups said threatened basic freedoms. It was shelved. In June 2014, China issued a policy document underscoring China's sovereignty and ultimate authority over the city. That August, China's parliament ruled Hong Kong could have a direct vote for its leader in 2017, but only for candidates endorsed by a pro-Beijing vetting committee. Pro-democracy advocates in Hong Kong denounced this as "fake", and on Sept. 28, thousands of protesters thronged key roads, prompting police to fire tear gas. The "Umbrella Revolution" - named after the use of umbrellas to block police weapons - occupied roads in three major districts for 79 days, before being cleared by police. Beijing granted none of the protesters' demands, including universal suffrage. In 2019, millions opposed a bill that would have allowed people accused of certain crimes to be sent to China for trial. Peaceful protests snowballed into a populist movement against Chinese authoritarian rule. SINCE 2019? The imposition of a national security law (NSL) to punish crimes such as subversion with possible life imprisonment was a turning point, squeezing Hong Kong's space for political and civic expression. Almost immediately, arrests of opposition figures began. Under the NSL, authorities raided media outlets - many of which shut down - and civil society groups, and detained without bail key democratic politicians and activists. More than 2,000 people have been jailed for offences linked to the 2019 protests. About 200 have been arrested on national security charges, including 47 democrats ensnared in a single police raid for holding an unofficial primary election. Hong Kong's rankings for economic freedom, media freedom and quality of life have tumbled since the NSL was imposed. In March 2021, China's parliament approved an election bill to ensure only "patriots" could rule Hong Kong. In the most sweeping electoral changes to Hong Kong since 1997, the moves included giving police the power to screen electoral candidates and decreased the number of directly elected seats. There are no opposition democrats in the legislature. Beijing says the system is more democratic than before, despite Western criticism.
