Just did this baffle removal today. Prior to the job, I sprayed the screw with penetrating lube [PB Blaster]. I rode the bike about 90 miles before attempting the screw removal to heat the exhaust. Used a pneumatic high speed air saw to cut the tack weld. As I loosened the screw, I stopped when it got hard to rotate. I cut at the edge of the screw and continued as it rotated. I cut around the entire circumference before it was easy to turn. The contour of the baffle mixed with the flat surface on the head of the screw is the issue. Once the screws were out I bent the inside snout with a flathead screwdriver and gripped it with needle nose vise grips. The top one came out quickly with up and down movement as I pulled. The bottom one was harder. Sprayed lube around seam between baffle and main opening of muffler. It sounds much better but still not super loud. Worth the effort.

Great video, and I wanted to thank you for the insight. I just installed my Arrows, Triumph Cleveland now sells them for $799! I learned from your challenges, cut the wield with my dremel, then worked those screws lose, going in and out, taking my time and using spray lithium grease. They did come out, but yep, a definite pain. I removed the baffles with needle nose but it took a while, and now I have baffles that I can put back in should I want to. Thanks for the insight, it made my install easier!

At this point in time i'd buy the Freespirits de-cat pipes for about 1/3 of the price since IMO the stock mufflers look better.. Not a fan of C.f. on the 1200 scrambler. I bet LeoVince, Akrapovic and others will start making exhausts for the 1200 scrambler soon, and both those brands would be my picks over Arrow. Not saying Arrow's shite, but my taste and preference up to now.

Blame the hippies for this dilemma, the demand for clean emissions will continue to get worse and worse. pretty soon instead of a spot weld, they will run a full bead around the whole db killer. To be followed by a flat out ban on aftermarket exhaust, followed by a ban on internal combustion engines.

I had the same issue with mine. I too has to use a carbide burr and carefully grind at it for about 1 1/2 hours. Not fun but I think worth the effort. The sound is deep and throaty without being obnoxious. I tested one of these at my favorite triumph dealer and traded my 2018 triumph T120 black. Equally a great bike but it’s no 1200XE. This things is a blast! Excellent torque, comfortable and smooth. Highly recommend this bike. One test ride and you’ll be hooked.

Sounds like a real Triumph should, at last! The heat can come down if you de-cat the exhaust as the cat holds amazing heat. TEC in the UK do a good vid on KZread how to decat!

yeah well... The cat is supposed to get hot because the catalization process of the materials work once they are hot. People should stop to manipulate the system if they are not using the bike for racing. Let's be eco-responsible riders at least.

Great video. The dealer offered to remove the "db killers." I said I'd ride it myself and remove them if I wanted to. Heh it looks to be a real pain in the backside. So my question is, ride 500 miles and make the dealer do it or pull out the die grinder. Also, I'm curious to what the difference between the pipes with the limiters in them as opposed to without them.

help me understand what you did. the triumph scrambler 1200xe/xc sounds good. but you wanted a different sound so you spent $1200 on after market pipes to get the sound you wanted. you then modified those very expensive pipes by spending over two hours on one bolt, and who knows how many total hours to complete the job to get louder sound which is different from the sound you wanted and destroyed the after market pipes and now you can’t get a sticker. is that accurate? lol

Forget those bullshit Arrows, they still sound muted and the heat problem from the front mounted CAT does not go away. Instead just stick with the standard cans and delete the CAT. Fraction of the price and releases lots of power and sound. Even better, fit a 2 into 1 V&H from the Street Scrambler (fits perfectly) and save a tonne of weight, pick up several HP and produce the most glorious sound on this Earth because a 270 crank firing through a 2 into 1 is heaven!

The screws are welded in because they are not supposed to be removed (homologation). Then you damaged them removing the part that isn't supposed to be removed and complained that it's possible to damage them when doing that? Madness.

@@BackDraftBikes I guess if the dealer is willing to cover for the genius giving out the info, it works. Sucks to stick it to the mfg though. They made them the way they did for a reason. It'd be like the kid at Best Buy telling you to saw on your new refrigerator's compressor and then returning it to Maytag cause it don't work but is under warranty.

Why are they built so that the screw breaks off when the db-killer is removed? Because that's what the law wants - in europe. ;) Euro 4 exhaust systems must not have an easy to remove dB killer. In fact, it must not be able to be removed without damage. The screws must therefore be welded on and should even break off. Because it's mandatory. The exhaust systems that meet Euro 3 may still have an easy to remove db killer. And we would not be Europe if there were no exception to this: Euro 4 compliant silencers that were developed and homologated in 2016 do not yet concern the "new" directive, since the requirements for Euro 4 retrofit silencers were only clearly defined in 2017. Greetings from Germany.
