Edward Nygma mmm, i get the feeling that official government libraries - like the Library of Congress - would either keep their books safe and secure as chaos ensues, or keep electronic copies of each book in flash drives or hard drives or something, also hidden away somewhere. granted, some of the information could be biased since it is a government library and all governments, for better or for worse, have an agenda of their own, but people who work with information tend to be really protective of information in general - even the less flattering parts. too many libraries throughout history have been destroyed or burned down during wars. countless texts, a treasure trove of information, completely lost to the ages. there's got to be people out there dedicated to preventing something like that from happening again. so, have no fear.

Actually, I remember reading a Twilight fan fiction in which the author basically rewrote all of Twilight. Bella was logical and smart, and Edward was not creepy.

What pisses me off the most is that I've read some AMAZING fanfiction, like great writing style AND plot. Stuff that's better than a great deal of novels I've read. Yet something that's worse than what I can write while drunk off my ass and high as a kite at the same time is what got published, popular, and turned into a movie.

I was 15 when I saw my mum reading it, so naturally I asked her "Hey, what are you reading, what's it about?" She gave me the synopsis, and I legit went "Wow this sounds like crap" and she said "That's because you're too young for it!" I saw it to see what all of the fuss was about. I have seen worse films, but I still didn't think it was any good. Compared to all of the crappy "erotic thrillers" that came out on VHS in the 1990s, it's well-made: shot by an award-winning cinematographer, cut by an award-winning editor, it's professionally put together and technically well-made. But it's also stupid, a film about a nasty, abusive individual who takes to destroying the life of a virginal girl. If it's supposed to be a character-study, an examination of modern sexuality, or a satire, it does not work at all as any of them. The dialogue is George Lucas-bad. What I know about BDSM (or sex, for that matter) would fill the head of a pin, but apparently it's been none too well-received in the community, and it's not hard to see why. The film has no interest in portraying it as part of an adult sexual relationship. I kept hoping they'd get someone like Paul Verhoeven to direct it, with thay ferociously European sense of being totally unafraid of sexuality, but the whole movie feels sanitized. There's way more consumer porn than actual porn, the sex scenes are tame (I'm a notorious prude) and dull. The icky sexual politics and messages aside, a larger problem is that the movie is just boring.

Whenever I'm working on my book and feel like it'll never be popular, I just remember that Fifty Shades of Grey was not only made into a series, but movies as well, and I feel a little better about myself.

In a group project I'm doing for a class, one of the members of my group told us that his step-mother is a editor for a fairly big publishing company. One night a few years back he woke up at 1-2am to use the bathroom when he saw that the light to her study was still on. He went in, and she was sitting at her desk with two empty bottles of whiskey, cursing out loud. He later found out that she was editing 50 Shades of Grey after one of her friends recommended it to her.

50 shades treats BDSM like a way for people to abuse clueless subs. Its like this chick didn't do any research on what it is or what the boundaries are. Its not an excuse for rape or abuse. BDSM is focused on trust and bonds as well as kinks, what I hate the most is the movie treats it like the dom is in charge when in reality the sub sets the boundaries and decides when to stop or how far they can go, the dom just works around that. Grey doesn't listen to her and even keeps going when she tells him to stop which is just straight up rape and doesn't fully go through what SHE wants or what SHE is ok with. He makes her sign over her virginity and shows no care for her feelings, he doesn't even comfort her or take her out of that state afterwards. That's not romantic. For the love of god don't use this as a reference for what BDSM is like, otherwise your just going to hurt people. The book wasn't even good literature, the writing was littered with spelling mistakes and repeated phrases and grammar errors even a primary school student would write better smut so don't say the book was better all that says is you havn't read a book in your life.
