Easy--it was the Wachowskis, who brought us The Matrix, which blew moviegoers away with bullet time so good it had to be copied to death. In Wholly Odd, I mean "Hollywood", money talks and bullshit talks even louder, so the money-making, gender-bending sibs behind the Matrix trilogy, who had plenty of both money and BS to spare, got this greenlit. It's not a bad movie if you like weird cult movies, but as a mainstream action flick, not so good... to put it mildly. It's weird, even from the Wachowskis, but it's not as awful as the thousandth remake of any TV series from the 50s to the 90s is. Then again, if some Hollyweird producer thought turning the Banana Splits from a silly kid's show to Five Nights At Freddy's: The Movie, you know that the Dream Factory isn't exactly a hotbed of intellectual prowess.

He had a legitimate reason for it. But it didn't resonate with the audience. “His larynx had been ripped out by this wolf man, so I made this slightly bold choice-which I thought was right-of talking like this for the whole film, which I felt suited the costumes and the extremity of the world. But in retrospect it may have been too much?”

I think I may be the only one that actually really enjoyed the film no matter what this crappy honest trailer says I think it still pretty good

I feel like the Wachowckis would have been more successful making their ideas into novels, where they can take their time expanding on everything, instead of shoving everything they think up into compact movies with way too much happening and no focus on a single plot. They have good ideas, but they're using the wrong medium.

What I’ve read about the wachowskis is they have lots of ideas and don’t like to ‘discard’ ideas so that’s why the person said they should write novels lol or maybe shows with many seasons!

I feel like the plot was written by a 12 yo fanfic writer who did 'spin the wheel' for all of the plot points lol

There were parts of it I really enjoyed. I liked how imaginative the sci-fi elements of the plot were, but I loathed several lines of dialogue and Jupiter returning to Earth and cleaning toilets. Also, wings on a guy spliced with a wolf? That's like one patch of hair away from being a furry...such a lame ending.

I watched it, and that is literally the plot. No hyperbole. No exaggerated metaphors for comedic effect. Nothing extra at all. That is literally just the plot. A shame too, because as a person who loves sci-fi/fantasy, I was really stoked when I first heard about the movie.

I watched it while drunk... kinda made it bearable.

Just watched this movie on Netflix for the first time. Immediately came to honest trailers to see how funny it would be. You did not disappoint.

The way I like to describe this movie is "it's like a really bad fanfic based of an awesome franchise that doesn't exist." Like it's a fanfic, 100%. And it's kind of beautiful.

That's actually super easy to achieve, given the quality of the movie.

During the Covid-19 outbreak, when things are looking bleak, I come back to this to remind myself that worse things can happen. Like this movie being made.

The most best one yet. That line about taking back the oscar from Redmayne was gold.

Honestly I kinda want to watch this because of the description they gave of the plot of the movie, simply because of how hilarious it sounds.

I remember watching this at the movies with some close friends, when the scene about that the Bees recognize royalty - we all looked at each other and laughed, at that point we said we got up and left the cinema ahhaha

It took me two attempts to watch this film - on cable. The first time I gave up just after the Terry Gilliam bit at the bureaucratic maze. I then worked out how long and started watching again from a bit before that scene and managed to make it to the end, but I kind of drifted a bit during the lead up to the wedding ceremony, so I'm not quite sure how it transitioned to then skating in through a ships broadside barrage… I can live with that unresolved question. And I made it though _Cowboys and Aliens_ …!

IMO Cowboys and Aliens was honest B-movie grade cheese without any pretenses of being more profound than unsophisticated entertainment. This film was equally pretentious and idiotic!

@@SacredDaturana I was just re-watching the movie and I was seriously thinking the entire time, why isn't this a book? Because a it has the ingredients of a SF YA, but if they actually developed the characters and well, anything interesting that's not mind boggling from the movie. I felt the entire time that I was watching a poorly handled book adaptation that might actually be quite interesting.

+Shine Bright So, I actually watched the movie a few days ago. It has potential to be a decent movie, but it is too far out of balance and remains distant. The single performances or plot concepts are not too bad that it kills it, but it's the combination of everything that just doesn't work. The tongue in cheek parts like this quote work well and are quite funny though.

That reminds me: watch Jeremy Irons's performance in "Dungeons and Dragons". It'll make you laugh AND cry.

Man i thought it was amazing. Every single line was a message. Entire scenes dedicated to claiming your fictitious corporate name from the gov. Really well put together.

1:08 We actually got that with Katniss Everdeen from THE HUNGER GAMES.

When watching this movie, I got the feeling it would have made a better trilogy than stand alone movie. The plot, characters, and world all seemed like things that would be good if you took the time to tell the story.

Daniel Ortman I thought I might be the only person who felt this way. The film had a great idea, but also felt like it was cut to death. There was some mood whiplash that didn't help. The montage of Jupiter navigating the bureaucracy seemed to be written and directed by Terry Gilliam...it felt out of place. Brilliant, but out of place. What did the movie want to be?

Okay, so that plot was ridiculous, but DAMN, those costumes! I'm impressed.

'IF YOU THINK THIS TRAILER IS DRAGGINT TOO LONG, TRY WATCHING THE MOVIE', i totally get it cause 5 mins in i thought I had watched an hour.

0:24 - "Battlefield Earth" was actually a really good sci-fi novel. It was over 3000 pages. Making it into a movie was a really stupid idea. The story was written 10-20 years before L. Ron Hubbard started a religion based on his own favorite science fiction themes.

If that one in the picture cost 4k that's a rip off big time. When you get into the multi thousand range you can buy ones with 14" aperture reflector optics (way bigger the the on in the video)that are fully motorized and have GoTo object location and automatic tracking of over 42,000 celestial objects. Enter Jupiter and it will find it for you and track it and that's for under 3k
