I hope that since this will now be a day after the honest trailer that the commentary will be able to run longer. I mean, I'd be fine if you did like an hour's worth of commentary if you have that much stuff to talk about. The honest trailer now is going to be like a prequel to the commentary!!!

The character of Artemus Gordon was both an inventor, linguist, and master of disguise in the original Wild Wild West TV series. It was a very meaty and fun role. I'm sure Kevin Cline was excited to play the role because of how good a character the TV version was.

I read a, very frank, interview with Barry Sonnenfeld in Empire magazine years ago where he talks about this film. One of the funniest things in the interview was where he mentioned that Kevin Kline was extremely insecure about Kenneth Branagh being in the film. The reason for this is that Kevin Kline is apparently very proud of his pedigree as a Shakespearean actor, however Branagh is one of the finest Shakespeareans of all time and many would argue the best, or joint best, living Shakespearean (along with Mark Rylance). So according to Sonnenfeld, whenever Branagh was on set, Kevin Kline would be constantly doing soliloquies from various Shakespeare plays and generally looking like an insecure child acting out. Sonnenfeld said it was very disrupting and just plain embarassing.

"The Wild Wild West" was a wonderful series ('65-'69), with two great follow up movies ('79 & '80) with the Robert Conrad and Ross Martin. (I am a BIG fan.) And Dr. Lovelace was a regular villain played by Michael Dunn, whose stature was occasionally mentioned (he had legs) but the main focus was that he was truly an interesting villain (think Loki). Many of the little things in the movie were attempting to pay tribute to the series: Man in the painting, Artemis Gordon master of disguise, the train. For years I've tried to find positive's with this reboot... but you're right. "It sucks." As always thank you so very much.

I can't think of another movie with a giant robot spider that breaths fire and destroys old western towns, and a black cowboy that hunts and kills old Confederate soldiers on a high tech train! I loved this film even if it's dumb. Also that man's head line broke me. Come on Screen Junkies! Not once did you guys bring up the fact that they used a severed head as a freaking overhead projector!! Any sane person would be freaked out by that no matter the time period. My contention with this movie as always been, from the time I walked out of the theater having watched it, they picked the wrong villain. Michael Dunn worked HARD, in the TV show version of Dr. Lovelace, to make sure that while Dr. Lovelace was a villain, we had empathy for him. Dr. Lovelace was a little person back in an age when the only thing they were thought capable of doing was being in circus sideshows. His villainy was based on his ire at being a VERY smart man, but because of his size, no one would take him seriously. He was going to make everyone take him seriously. Michael Dunn played him beautifully, and that's why we was a reoccurring villain on the show. It wasn't just the character, but how Mr. Dunn made us feel for this villain, and want to see more of him. What this movie did with our beloved Dr. Lovelace was downright disgusting.

The TV show was original, clever, and funny. Also, great actor guest stars and horses. It did have the typical Sixties spy movie fondness for treating women like sex objects crawling all over the heroes which made me roll my eyes, even as a little girl, but, otherwise, it was awesome. I've read that Will Smith apologized to Robert Conrad, the original James West, for the movie. As well he should.

The people in the painting gag is from the TV show guys. Just watch the opening theme to Wild Wild West. It was a motif of the show, though the way this film does it makes no sense. Also Kevin Kline plays the President because in the original tv show they had the same actor that played Artemis play the President too so he could impersonate him in various episodes. Also never mind the fact that Loveless in the tv show was a little person, that was not racist! Sure, cut off a guys legs, that equals the same thing! Lol

Minnesota is not included in that yellow plot of land - it would be in the top left of the light gray tract. While not home to many large urban centers, Loveless Land would contain an abundance of natural resources and beauty - Nevada is nicknamed the Silver State, you'd have Crater Lake, the Cascade and Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, the arches of Utah, big sky country, forests and fisheries in the PNW, and the agricultural bounty of some of the great plains.

You know what else is gross about the Arliss Loveless no legs jokes? The character is without legs because he's based on the show's villain Miguelito Loveless (the movie producers not even bothering to learn the character's first name) who was played by a little person -- excellently too, and he also played the deep Alexander in the classic Trek episode "Plato's Stepchildren." So the movie character is half height because he's based on a dwarf, which is just cruel and thoughtless.

Thanks Joe and Dan for mentioning both shows that did living art episodes! Fun fact: Gilmore Girls’ only Emmy nomination it ever received was for makeup for the living art episode. As a huge fan of both shows, I always wanted a Gilmore/AD crossover where the Bluths have to hide out in Stars Hollow. I just need an Emily Gilmore and Lucille Bluth scene together. Also, Lorelei and Michael awkwardly date and Gob has to pitch a magic show to Taylor at a town meeting.

This is crazy with subtitles, at 19:26-19:29 . I think Spencer says "Young Will Smith in this movie would have eaten that head.'' however he mumbles it fast and the subtitles read "Young Girl Spaceman would have eaten that head"

Every single background is a picture of the Mittens in Monument valley. Even at the end of the trailer, when they fly off the edge of a cliff, the backgrounds BOTH WAYS are the same picture of the Mittens.

The whole Maverick is a sequel to the tv show thing is similar to what they did with Mission Impossible. Jon Voight’s character in the first movie is an older version of the main character of the original show.

Hey what are you snapping in Minnesota for!? Also given the area near the corner of Lake Superior is well outside Loveless territory that would place most of not all of MN outside it as well. Feel free to take it out on the Dakota's though!

Sean Connery was also offered Morpheus in the Matrix. I could see him in a dystopian future with pseudo magic powers and... it would be Highlander 2 with rapping... yep now I'm sad. When he realised what a hit the Matrix was he decided to find a big sci fi franchise... League of Extraordinary Gentlemen... still sad, and now selling my steampunk outfit...

I heard somewhere that he turned down the Matrix because he didn't really get it (to be fair, it'd be a weird premise to pitch to an actor), and supposedly was asked about playing Gandalf, but turned that down too because he didn't understand the appeal and thought it would flop.

I still don't know why people don't enjoy the dark humor more in this movie. Isn't there a part where a woman with a thick German accent is transcribing in real time the death screams of a field of Confederate soldiers while a super villain in a wheelchair stares at her ass or something? This movie is super f***** up and you just need to go with it
