I've been using charcoal in my gas grill for years. I just put a screen down on top of the burners just like you do with that one and just put regular charcoal on it lighted are then turned the gas down to low or turn it off completely.

Seems to me you would get most of the benefit if you allowed the smoke to build then put your chicken over a different burner. Maybe there you would not have the problem with the flareup. I’m going to check this product out based on your review. Seems like it has potential.

That’s a good idea. You could also put the chicken on a higher rack where the flare ups wouldn’t reach it possibly. I like this idea though.

Hi Tom! Thanks for sharing this. We have a Kamado Joe and love the lump coal flavors. Just ordered a Monument grill directly from them in Atlanta Georgia! American made baby! Big discount and no sales tax for WA state. Was hoping to find something like this for the charcoal flavoring. It looks to me that you are using way to much charcoal. At least the videos I’m seeing appear that way. Sprinkling it lighter may allow the grease to make it to the drip pan. Thanks pal! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 4:10

Kalamazoo builds a hybrid wood/gas grill. It’s a similar idea, my friends brother has one and says it’s amazing. I’ve never used one. The idea is cool.

Looks interesting Tom. How was the cleanup on it? Try using the pecan pellets. Ooooh man! Chicken looked tasty too! Cheers buddy.

Maybe good for those with just a gas grill. Weber kettle is inexpensive and produces better results.

Seems like you could simplify by just using a charcoal grill. That Blue's Hog sauce is insanely good.

I have a nice Weber gas grill as well as their 22” charcoal grill, and an Oklahoma Joe offset smoker modified to Franklin standards. Each has its use. I came looking for reviews of this system because adding some charcoal flavor is never a bad thing. I wanted to see how well it would work in those circumstances when I prefer to use the gas grill.

That is interesting, but a smoking tube would work better in my opinion. I wonder how the charcoal bits(or charcoal pellets) mixed with hardwood pellets would work in a smoking tube. This would probably work pretty good for lean cuts with no skin.
