Knees is a song she wrote as she was thinking about her grandma in a night when IU had sleeping problems and suffering from insomnia. It's comforting and feels like a sweet lullaby

She wrote this when she can't sleep and worried about her sick grandma, her grandma raised her after her family separated because her parent bankrupt and has much debt, IU and her brother live with her grandma. The one who playing piano in this clip is Kim Jehwi, composer of Through The Night, Dlwlrma, My Sea, etc

IU is the only idol that im following in all of my social media acc and when I see IU's content I clicked faster than the speed of sound

Knees, Love Poem, My Sea are part of her 'lost childhood' songs. All involve a fatigued adult wanting to reconnect with her past child self. I want to include 'Bad Day' but she wrote that very early - while she actually was still a child, but the sentiment is similar.

She used her sleepless night to compose a lullaby for us 💜

love this song. In a interview, she said this is THE song that she wants people to remember her when she's gone. IU songs are hard to translate but in my opinion, this song shows how hard she struggled and maybe is still struggling with insomnia.

I think “knees” refers to IU grandma’s “knees pillow” where she used to sleep in grandma’s lap and fall asleep slowly.

This is the first time that I see Aaron so emotional, so moved by a song, and like I definitely feel it too, this song is very emotional, makes me wanna cry for some reason

that "sururu" part near the end is actually onomatopoeia of fingers brushing someone's hair. like in the lyric at @11:49 . also at @15:39 , Aaron said the melody compliments the lyrics perfectly. this is probably because IU wrote both the lyrics and the music (the song is also arranged by Kim Je Hwi, the guy who played the keyboard in the video)

Knees is a insomnia song and when she’s writing the lyrics she think about her grandmother. IU said that Heart and Knees are the songs she want her fans to remember her when she’s gone.

Listening to this song, even without knowing the lyrics yet, gave me an incredible kind of comfort and soothing effect. Like somebody telling me, yeah it‘s been a long day but you did great girl! She wrote this song(compose+lyrics), just like "The shower" and "Heart" in the same album(chat-shire). The special clip of The shower is awesome, you will like it.

You might want to check on Lullaby too, her another lullaby song. Cant think of words. But IU is such a very talented human being with a pure heart.

I listen to this song every night! I learned to appreciate more about Korean language because they can express exact emotions with words just like the end of this song which says your eyes are getting heavier and closing eyes slowly when you are about to fall asleep. Every time I hear that part, I feel sleepy and so shooting.

personally, Knees was one of the song that make me uaenas... Its melody, and the lyrics are just so soothing and emotional. At first listen, I dont believe this is kpop. This level of honesty feels in song is rare in kpop, this kind of song is more on indie-jpop like from Ikimono, Mr Children, or YUI. FYI, many ppl take Knees like a soothing song after working hard in S.Korea. In there (well, maybe everywhere too, lol ), ppl working hard every day and song like Knees is like a healing potion for them. Thats why Knees will always be sleeper hit for IU (pun intended).
