This is a cold start of Honda XR 400 R4 2005 simple and easy with out words..
But it is worth it to mention,after last (and every previous ) riding,the carb i competely run out of petrol(leave on idle when tap is on off position).One old friend told me,thats helps to fire up next time.As you see,it works.
Kind Regards

    Nice easy starting. Start my XR650R the same way. Leaned my 400 over to flood the carby first, then same procedure. Dont really care if it starts first or 20th kick, as long as I'm out riding it. My XR400 was my favourite bike, with easily controlled power. My XR650R is a torque monster, that I have yet to control, lol.

    650R is a demanding bike, much heavier than XR400 which can be taken anywhere for madness...Love it ! And regret I've sold it.

    The XR 400 is, in my opinion, the best dirt bike ever produced. They say it's rated at 34hp, yet it's faster than the 2013 CRF450x, and the CRF450x is rated at 42hp.

    I agree.Never let me down,as long as tyre have a grip it wont stop ! They are fast,and like for me,it's plenty for off road riding and local street racing,supermoto wheels on this bike is great job due to fenomenal balance of the bike.Great machine no doubt ! Regards.

    Hi ! Yes,before start the engine I set the kill switch on "off" position and kick twice to delivery fuel to cilinder with out ignition.After that,turn the kill switch to "on" position,set TDC (I dont use decomp lever-proper kick will do ;-) ) and fire up the beast... It works for me every single time. These bikes required a massive torque from the kicker :-) and spark plug (iridium) in very good form. Thanks for rep.

  • @xxstarforbrianxx
    @xxstarforbrianxx9 жыл бұрын

    Definitely helps to use all of the fuel sitting in the carb before the next time you cold kick it. What works for my '02 XR4 is leaning bike over 45* against my leg so I flood the carb with fresh fuel, full choke, turn idle up one full turn, then a strong kick from TDC and hold the kicker down for a few seconds to get things really turning over. After 10 seconds I drop it to half choke, then no choke after a couple of minutes, then bring idle back down to normal after a couple of minutes. Usually starts within 1 - 3 kicks cold; sometimes I mess up and it takes me several kicks to get it going. My bike will usually start in one kick hot. The main thing to remember is you never want to lug any engine at too low an RPM or it's hard on your crank and starves the top end of oil due to a lack of oil pressure. It's probably not a bad idea to give it a few slow kicks to get the oil moving before you actually fire it up.

    Brian Pech Hi Brian ! Thanks for your important comment.Fuel in the carb itself it helps,it's clear.But if the XR4 sits for long time not in use the fresh fuel from tank will give better effect,fumes are get out from the carb and octan's are reduced drasticly,then start of the engine become more "time consumption".XR400 may become hard to start for many reasons,your method is as great as mine,as long as it works,and helps to the other people to start their XR"s it's fantastic.My XR hot,start's first kick with no doubt.The main think here is to understand how the four stroke "single" cilinder engine works,the imagination is need here and some knowledge.To low idle,will kill the carb throtle cilinder,cause the pressure when the cilinder suck the air in,it increasae in time and wear at the bottom part of the throttle it's excessive.The result of it is v.noisy low idle kind of flapin noise.My XR have have 6k km on dash and auto decommpressor get faulty.Video and explanation shortly.....Kind regards Brian.

    No decomp, turn idle up, full choke, 5 or 6 gentle movements on kicker, find comp and give it a mans kick....fires 1st time every time. Back off choke and re adjust idle and let warm up.

    Thats the 4th video I was looking at. Bikes in Nice condition but when it is about kickstarting nobody explains the strokes you are going through! Your kick-start won't last long like this! I never let mine flip back like that. I had people breaking them right in the middle... 136$ for the kick start only!

    I can assure you, if you have Honda genuine kick starter it wont brake. Any biker with super single 400cc engine piston knows very well what's TDC and how it feels...

    @@thelightinatunnel4551 I know very well how to kick it with closed eyes, as I own several xr400 and 250R and I saw people break them, especially flipping back with a high ping against the frame or engine. And there are no copies of the xr400 kick starts on the market. They are 136$ OEM and they wear through excessive kicking at the wrong point. Normally a xr400 can be started by hand kick! Not because of low compression...because of being on the right click and a well adjusted carb and perfect compression!
