As an older person coming back to motorcycles living in the U.K I have been drooling over this model. It ticks all the boxes for style and ergonomics. I need to save up my pennies for a long time as they seem to be holding the value Hoping you are a generous benefactor and ship it to me. loved this content and presentation. Genuine and heart felt.

Love my 04 VFR, owned it from new. CBR600F4i front forks,8 spoke rear wheel, SP1 brakes (linked brakes removed) 24kg of weight removed. Catless headers,Power commander with custom map. Runs beautifully and in my opinion how Honda should have built it. Everyone who owns one keeps them for ever. They are awesome bikes with a peach of an engine. Had mine 19 years now and will never sell 😊

Hi Laurentiu, I only have a VFR but with CBR parts on it. The VFR is heavier than the CBR but way better for longer trips. I suggest you try one as when I did I fell in love with the V4 engine. I had a Yamaha R6 before my VFR and can travel just as fast with as much fun but with a bit more comfort

Sold it when I got home and realized I made a mistake about a month later but it was too late! Wish I still had it.. bought a 97 750 just for kicks it’s a great bike to but loved the 800…

Nik - excellent VFR review. I bought my white '06 VFR with 9k miles and now have 56k miles and love it!! Funny story... I sold it at 50k miles and replaced it with a beautiful '04 BMW R1100S, but I didn't ride it as much - it just wasn't 'dynamic' compared to the VFR ...so I bought back my VFR and sold the R1100S!!! Will never sell my VFR again!

Awesome story. I could see why one would want to buy this bike back. My 1200 VFR is very satisfying, but i still miss the VTech. I was parked next to a fully equipped 6th gen yesterday and found it interesting how much sportier the 1200 sits, and the luggage is at least 10 inches lower on the bike, both side cases and top case.

I bought one of these years ago with 110,000km on it. Ran perfectly, took it to my mechanic and he said the engine was in excellent condition. The body looked like it had only 10,000km on it, amazing how well it presented for the kms it had travelled. Really a beautiful bike that I enjoyed a lot. So stable on the road and lovely engine note with aftermarket exhaust

That's a lot of miles but the bike is really well engineered so it's great to hear that they sell even after 100k. I see local gold wings for sale with close to 200,000 miles which is unheard of or any other motorcycle. Since changed to the bigger brother, the 1200 VFR so please stay tuned for that review. Honda all the way. Build quality at the best. For your money can’t buy better bike than Honda. My personal experience in my 20 years of riding and I’m 36. I had all kind of bikes and since first time I had Honda vfr800 I fall in love with that v4 sound. I still keep my vfr in garage. It’s only 60.000 kilometers (37282 miles) and for that engine that’s literally nothing. Except the oil, filters and chains and sprockets I never changed anything else on that bike. It’s 2008 and now it’s been 16 years old bike, but still on the street they turn around their head and admire the beautiful design that Honda made. Legendary! Cheers to everyone out there. And safe road. Also thank you for this nice review and your time to make it sir.

Great and very comprehensive review of the Honda VTEC! I will be subscribing as I haven’t seen another independent reviewer who does such a complete job of explaining what these VTEC bikes are all about. I am in the market for one and with the help of your review I am now better informed about these bikes from Honda. I have been considering a BMW ST that is basically in the same class but I have heard that parts for BMW’s are considerably more expensive than what they are for Honda’s. I really like what BMW has to offer but I’m not sure I want a massive bill every time something needs to be repaired.on them. They are both very good brands known for their quality workmanship so my decision on which one I eventually get will be determined by its overall cost when everything is considered. Thanks for the very good video and I look forward to seeing more.

Good video, very thorough and detailed review. The linked brakes, having 3 pistons on each front caliper, only operates the middle piston on the left caliper when pressing the rear brake lever. The front lever operates all 5 of the other front caliper pistons. When using the front brakes, the auxiliary cylinder on the left front caliper sends pressure to one of the pistons on the rear caliper.

Omg this ended up being a trashed 8900 mile bike. Was unsafe to ride. No break fluid in the master, clutch slave was empty, 12 yr old front tire, scratch up that you can’t see in pics, no maintenance records, black oil . Just a sad example that might be worth 2500 and not 5000. Would need everything done maintenance wise. Not worth the effort. Passed

If you didn’t see the mileage you would have thought it was in the 40,000 mile range just by looking at it. Brake pads worn , chain and sprockets bad. Was just a huge disappointment.

Thanks for the great reviews! I actually found the channel looking at the KLR650, DR650, and F650 videos, but then was researching the VFR as a replacement for my old 93 CBR1000F. Your video definitely aided in that decision and now I own an 07 VFR. Unfortunately mine was not the deluxe model, so at some point I'll be looking at luggage. Is there any soft luggage you think will work, and if so any recommendations? Or would I be better off saving my money for a set built specifically around the bike and it's under tail exhaust? Keep up the great videos, looking forward to watching your epic rides section soon, but saving it to watch on the TV instead of my phone!

Thanks so much for the support and for taking the time not only to watch my reviews but to comment. It's supportive words like yours that make me want to keep doing this work. I look forward to hearing your opinions about the epic rides, and a new one will be released early next year about eastern Sierras. The next review will be of my 2020 Yamaha super 10 array and that has till now the best filming footage, so I look forward to the responses. Regarding your question about soft luggage, there isn't any specific brand that fits this specific motorcycle, but I use my Oxford saddlebags and for sport bikes and they did okay. They tend to scuff up the paint and they can't really fit a lot, plus the way they open make them less useful, but this is the case with every soft luggage system for sport bikes. I know that Givi makes cases and carriers for the VFR but the OEM is always the best option. Happy holidays and thank you again for being part of this channel.

Nice vid as always. Just a couple of points I noticed. The early VFR750 wasn’t VTEC. The first 800 did have gear driven cams. And the VTEC systems on Honda cars operates differently. And Honda’s V4 engines began on the Magna and Sabre in 1982, and then the first VF750F Interceptors in 1983. Those engines were the ones that had early cam issues which for a while damaged Honda’s excellent reliability record. The VFR750 Interceptor was a complete redevelopment to regain that reputation. Interestingly the US models of the VF750F Interceptors (with the solid alloy wheels) were built in Honda’s Marysville Ohio plant. I have one here in the UK that’s sadly still in need of a full restoration. Too many projects and too little time. Ride safe. Peace

I watched this review, then went out to buy my first bike! Honestly, I was intimidated by the thought of starting on something big and heavy, but it turned out to be a very good decision. The bike is smooth as butter, and once you change the pipes, the sound becomes beastly (if you care for that). Handling is also great, though manoeuvring it in the garage can be a hassle. I have always like this gen of VFR800. I test road one once and it felt too sport. I did get a Concours 14 with 2" bar risers. Sold it but now 4yrs later I bought a NC700X for a gas saving tool and it's actually not bad. Fun to be back on 2 wheels and easy to work on, takes up less space in the garage and I get 62-64mpg on a regular basis without even trying to baby the throttle.

Good video, thank you. My Honda's are a bit older: an early ST1100 and a RC36-2, a 4th gen VFR 750. I'm still struggling which of the 2 I prefer most. The VFR is a lot more handy in the garage, yet the lump of the ST vanishes once you ride it. The biggest problem for me with regards to the VFR is that it does not provide the same luxurious feel the ST does. Very personal of course. I'm probably secretly longing for a Gold Wing... I'm old, that's my excuse!

I have to say I don't have experience with the St as of yet. I'm now riding the VFR 1200 that's visible in this video and I'm really loving that motorcycle. It was created first as a concept vehicle and it sure feels that spirit. It's extremely sporty and even the luggage sits a good 10 in lower than on the 800. It surprised me when I saw them side by side. Very satisfying and beautiful motorcycle. And as for gold wings, don't be so quick to judge about the age, I've owned more gold wings than I can count on one hand, including the two that I own now and the two that were from the first generation. I find that to be an exceptionally sporty and comfortable touring bike, and there's nothing not to like about it. One of the most popular reviews on this channel is of my 2003 Goldwing actually as well as the gold wings buyers guide. I've also reviewed the first generation Goldwing and provided some history there if you're interested. Careful though, if you watch it, I'm willing to bet you're going to want to go out and buy one. I'm only 35 and don't feel like these bikes ought to be delegated to the older Riders. A great motorcycle will appeal to any motorcyclist. Thank you so much for watching and participating in the conversation and I look forward to your take on the Goldwing now that the spark has been list. Do take a look at my playlist though because if you look for one, there are a few things you'd want to know in advance what to look for. I also interviewed on this channel a gentleman traveling around the country pulling a trailer behind his Goldwing and that's a very interesting conversation. Thank you for being part of this community.

Great review of the vfr. But I think your understanding about the side braking effect is not really exact. (around 26:00) since the rotor is located in between the forks, probably less than 2 inches from the center axle, the turning force applied on the front axle would be very small, negligible compared to the handlebar's distance to the center of the fork (your hands), therefore, you'll never really feel the brake-steering effect even if it's a single rotor at the front... like a lot of motorcycles are single front rotor. Your example of a side-cart demonstrated the effect of a turning moment applied from almost 1-1/2 feet away from the center of the motorcycle. my understanding of the C-brake is only 1 pair of pistons at the front get activated from the foot brake. because some might use foot brake while turning, and you really don't want too much front brake during a turn.

Had my eyes for one of these few years back but ended up on an FZ1 Fazer instead back then, after 2 years I wanted ABS, 2 up availability and to be more upright. Therefore I bought myself a FJ 09 Tracer and then another one the same, been riding those for 4 years now total but still love the looks of the VFR. The one that got away i guess. Thinking of switching again although the Tracer has been phenomenal, you think I'd be disappointed going to something that much older? The 6th generation definetly looks the best and would be my choice. Does it also work as good for 2 up touring as my tracer has? :) Great review and both of them VFRs look great. 👍👍

Please stay tuned for that review. I think anyone will appreciate the vfr800 VTech. I still miss the VTech since the new one doesn't have it. The 1200 is definitely more adequate for two up, but the 800 will do the job. Nothing beats three piece matching luggage.

Owned a 1995, 2001, 2007 Anniversary Edition, and a 2015. Still have the '95 and the '01. Styling wise, you're correct, the sixth-gen is the best looking in any color (the '04 Asphalt Black and the '07 Anniversary tri-color are probably the coolest). Just not red (then it looks like a smashed crab). The factory luggage was a nice touch, too, even though it was expensive. Honda took everything that was good about the V-TEC and completely neutered it on the eighth-gen. The valve adjustments were a PITA though. I'm a sucker for gear-driven cams, that whine sounds better to me than the V-TEC ever was. That's a subjective thing though. Regardless, this is quite possibly the most comprehensive review of the VFR800, of any generation, on KZread. I commend you on your editing and thoroughness. Well done, sir!

Well, that is huge praise considering your experience with these motorcycles. It was a Herculean effort to put it together but I'm really glad to hear this review is getting appreciated by knowledgeable owners. I'm a happy owner of the white 1200 scene in this video and I can't imagine selling it anytime soon. I've noticed the luggage sits at least 10 in lower than the 800, which makes the whole bike very sporty looking. I just find the luggage incredibly useful and actually only recently realized that one can in fact fit a full size helmet in the side case if it's turned on the side and looking towards the rear. So so far the 1200 meets all my commuting needs. Please stay tuned for that review in the near future, and thank you very much again for taking the time to watch and to comment and compliment.

@@suddendilemma5137 I liked my eighth-gen, just not as much as my fourth or fifth gen. Coming off an F4i, you will likely appreciate the riding position of the VFR, as it'll be fairly close to what you're used to. I found the eighth-gen to be more sport-postured than the older generations and added the Honda handlebar risers to compensate. That did the trick; wish they would include those like the do the solo seat cowl. I had the Deluxe version, so I had the adjustable suspension, heated grips, self-canceling indicators (they were more annoying than helpful), two-stage TC, and ABS. The suspension, heated grips, and ABS were worth the extra cost. There wasn't any way to turn off the self-canceling indicators, they would stay on for 300 feet and that's it. I felt they either canceled too early or stayed on too long after making a turn. The TC was basically on/off and you couldn't really tell the difference other than in the rain. The LED headlight was awesome. Mirrors were fantastic. I added the electronic quick-shifter which made it a lot of fun. Overall, I was happy with it for the time I had it, but after riding from Nashville to Orlando in a single shot (700+ mi) in order to get home before a hurricane hit, I wanted something that would be more comfortable, so I traded in the eighth-gen for an FJR1300 and never looked back. I will always love a V4, but sans V-TEC and sportbike ergos. Hope this helps.

The first VF750F Interceptors in 1983 (along with the earlier Magna and Sabre) actually had cam issues which for a while damaged Honda’s excellent reliability record. The problem was eventually traced to a production casting issue that they eventually sorted. The cam chains are actually very strong. The VFR750 Interceptor was a complete redevelopment to regain that reputation.

Earlier gens might even have them as well. 34:00 the reason why bikes and indeed cars in California, southern USA are in much better condition is the milder drier climate compared to further north and in northern Europe.

I would consider sport tourers if I had the ability to stretch my legs straight while riding (arthritis). But all of them have fairing which doesn't allow for the addition of foot pegs. :( Great typical review, Kemosabe.

That's a good point. I personally prefer the leaned forward ride over the cruiser style lounge hair for my back. But i could see if one has issues with knees or wrists why that would be uncomfortable. Bit yes, all the sport tourers have that more aggressive ride and even the big concourse 1400 does too. You can always adjust the controls but not like you can on a cruiser with forward controls due to the fairing being in the way. The most comfortable bike I've owned so far that you might look into is the Guzzi California 1400. I regret getting rid of it recently.

I prefer the simpler, smoother looking previous generation. I know the angular look of this one is more modern, but I've never liked the pointy nose and those headlights. And I have to say the 5 spoke looks great on that white bike. I don't see the appeal of the 7 spoke. It looks crowded and bulky to me.

Also baught a 7" Android auto unit I'll hard wire and mount on a ram mount to the fork tube. Last but soon I'll fit a topselliere saddle. With dual heated seat. Full luggage, bazzaz maps, akra pipe, plenty of other options. Candy red of course. It is going nowhere!!!! High strung? Nope. Under 6,000 relaxed and easy. Over 6,000? Hang on. Yes, mine is DCT. Non negotiable. Suits this bike to a tee. Sound? Pretty tame. But I like that. Even with akra it is deep, throaty but subdued. Less is more with this engine. It is no RSV4. Yes some 800s "sound better", but with my akra I have no complaints. I've done long days on this bike with ease. Fast or relaxed, does both remarkably well. It is one of the very rare "goldilocks" bikes. Yep, suspension tweaked & replaced. Very rewarding. I can think of no replacement for it.

Over complicated brake system and old rubber brake lines. 295 rotors were also out of date. If the bike had proper sized rotors you wouldnt need triple piston integrated brakes? How about ABS and traction control instead of some weird over plumbed system. Just weird engineering that in the end is over complicated over weight and does not make the whole package better.
