Honda Rebel 300 Oil Change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Ah, spring is here! The sun in shining, birds are singing, and your motorcycle is waiting… for an oil change, that is!
Today we’re doing just that with my 2019 Honda Rebel 300. No matter the milage, always change your oil at start of riding season before you fire it up, do this machine a solid and drain the swamp before you hit the streets. The reason you should always change the oil before you fire up the engine in the spring, rust particles can flake off into the oil and scour bearings and other parts during operation, leading to wear.
Before we begin get your supplies together, this includes a new gasket, oil filter, and 2 litres of Honda’s full synthetic HP4S 10W-30 Engine oil.
You’ll also want a socket ratchet, 12 MM socket for the drain bolt, 8 MM socket for the 4 bolts on the filter, and a socket extension to make life easier. We also have rags on hand, makeshift oil pan, and a newspaper to line the surrounding area beneath the bike. Although reusing the drain plug seal washer is not unheard of, it’s good practice to replace it at every oil change. If not, just be sure to carefully monitor after sealing to ensure there aren’t any leaks.
1. Start by getting your supplies ready.
2. Setup the oil pan below the bike ready to catch the oil.
3. Drain the oil into the catch pan.
4. Loosen the oil filter bolts and remove the oil filter (Have catch pan under)
5. Clean up the area and let the remaining oil drip out.
6. Re-install the drain plug at 18 Ft-Lbs
7. Clean oil filter contact area
8. Lube oil filter seal with fresh oil.
9. Re-install the oil filter and reinstall cover ( 9 Ft-Lbs )
10. Fill the bike with 1.5L of oil.
11. Run the bike for 30 seconds and check the oil level. ( Make sure the bike is in the upright position.)
12. If required, add more oil 50 ml at a time until the oil is at the desired level.
13. Clean up all of the area.
14. Go for a ride and check for leaks.
While sitting upright on the Honda Rebel, the level should fall somewhere between the two lines at the side of the sight glass, not too low, and not too high.

Just rolled Rhonda out of the garage today. I'm going to change the oil before I start'er'up. I feel like a sucker for buying a funnel when I could have just used a rolled up calendar😡😂

Good video but the only thing you left out was to warm up the bike before releasing the old oil just to make sure everything gets out, it has happened to me before some of the old oil didn’t come out and I added more oil And it was way too much oil in the bike

What happens if I don't put the spring in the filter cap? .... I wish I had seen your video before I changed my oil... I didn't even know there was a spring ... until my friend told me there's something inside my dirty oil bucket :( 😞 can I ride it without the spring on the filter ???

Not sure the exact size but I suppose it’s in the manual or go to your local Honda dealer they will set you up! 👍

Hello! I am just a beginner and I have a 2018 Honda rebel 300! Just checked my oil level on my rebel and it’s above the top line!!! Would you recommend taking some of the oil out?

  • @CruisersCorner

    @CruisersCorner

If it is higher than the top line you should technically drain a bit out. Can you see the fill level at all or is the window completely full? Also make sure the bike is completely level with you sitting on it.

At the risk of sounding dumb (I'm new to this) my maintenance manual says I'm not due for a new filter for quite a while but that I should do an oil change. Should I only be doing the drain and fill or do you recommend I still replace the filter anyway?

  • @CruisersCorner

I usually just replace filter anyways but you it’s up to you. Technically the filter probably still has life left.

I sold my 2014 1832cc 6 cylinder beast valkyrie and bought a rebel 300, I love it, I'm in the process of making it a dual sport so no it's not just a beginner's bike, I've had several bikes and so far the customizability and simplicity of this bike is awesome, if you want to go on very long road trips and hate getting passed at 70mph then the 500 is for you, if you want a little bit lighter and simpler to work on the 300 is still a good buy, for me the 300 short first gear is the plus for what I'm doing with the bike.
