This Road Test takes a look at the Honda NC700S.

I’ve owned my NC700s since 2014, I ride Alberta’s highways with my friends who own larger bikes like 1300 cc and larger, it really surprises them that I could keep up with them at 130 km cruising for an extended period. I have to say that I chose a very good bike.

I have mine since August 2013 and we're now just shy of 70000 km ! I am riding the bike pretty much every day and it still rides like day one 👍thanks Honda for something absolutely worth the money! Of course a few things have worn out during those four years : front and rear wheel bearings,a set of sprockets and chain, four sets of tires, three sets of brake pads, a headlight bulb, a foot peg since I let it fall over once and somehow managed to break the left rider peg..... During those four years I also had two affairs with other two bikes since I am just a human being...... A 2015 Z1000 and a 2015 Versys 650 LT...... Guess which bike I still own and which two bikes I have parted from...... Honda did build an awesome all rounder that will get you almost anywhere 👍no complaints whatsoever !

+Rocknium1 why not, it's for starters a honda. the honda name is legendary in its own right. it's cheap, economical well built, and did I mention the Dame thing has a trunk lol. I'll post a vid of mine

mayantribe bx this is cool and all, but the fz07 has more torque and its fun to ride too.

+Rocknium1 your 100% correct, the yamaha is faster, I guess it all comes down to preferences. the deal maker for me was the trunk. but don't get me wrong, I had my eye on the kawasaki versys 650 first, but then settled on the n.c.

Nice looking bike, of course good fuel economy, comfortable for tall riders, low enough for short riders, plenty of storage space especially with other luggage (I have a pack rack and a backpack), and decent power. BUT the bike has poor power at the upper end, weak brakes + little engine braking power, struggles with a pillion/passenger, irritating rev limiter (and for the non-DCT aka manual version!! Why?!) and is too heavy for its power. It's as heavy as my old Honda Hornet 900! In some areas a good design, in some areas it's just bad. Sadly, wish I hadn't bought the NC700S and looking to sell ASAP! For old farts, frugal riders, learners coming to a full license, ex-scooter riders/city-commuters, it might make sense but otherwise this is at best a boring bike and at worst, a weak dangerous bike.

I have owned 18 bikes now from Goldwing's to Harleys and rockets This is one of the nicest bikes to ride. Great on fuel and ins. I have a 500x and the 750x now.. would not change it..

Tigadee00 Based on your comment, as I am a “frugal old fart commuter” this may be the exact bike I’m looking for. 😉

@@decab8292 Oh indeed! And I was wrong about the little engine braking power. It does have sufficient. BUT it still does struggle with a passenger, brakes could be better and the rev limiter is still irritating but I've trained myself to avoid it now. After two years riding it now, I have accepted its flaws and worked around its limitations, but I do still look longing at other more exciting bikes...

Tigadee00 I agree on looking longingly at other bikes, but I am looking for a daily commuter in all weathers and the Honda seems to fit my criteria. Being in my fifties now, and looking for something that will get me there through city traffic easily. Oh and all the speed cameras etc.😉 Thanks for your honesty 👍
