Hello Jim!! I have a question. I’m looking to buy a metropolitan 50cc scooter it’s a 2008 but it has 2200 miles. Is that a lot of miles for a 50cc ???
@jdplus3
2 жыл бұрын
2000 miles is nothing if the oil has been maintained. 2008 is still pre- fuel injection (2013). Pros and cons. Easier to modify but a little fussier possibly. But still oh so reliable. Just sold a 2007 with 6k miles, no issues.

Yes, scooters are easy to handle, I ride a 150cc and it keeps up with traffic no problem to 50 mph, easy to maintain, park almost anywhere and I believe safer than riding a bicycle on the side of the road

Glad you like it, but I'd get a Vespa 150. Far better for riding in traffic and much higher quality. If you look at the VIN on that scooter, you will find that even though it is a Honda, it is made in Thailand. Honda is no longer a Japanese brand. Vespas are still made in Italy.

@pasteve59 You are right. New Vespas are expensive, and their parts can start getting hard to find after just 10 years or so. That is pretty much the Japanese philosophy as well. They build disposable "appliances" with a planned lifetime of 10 years. Many Japanese dealers won't even look up a part for a bike more than 10 years old. And they won't work on them either. I get my Japanese bike parts from places like cheapcycleparts.com. I can still find parts for my 1987 Helix there. But there is just something about a Vespa I can't resist. I have a 2006 GT200 and a 1979 P200E. Vintage 2 stroke manual shift Vespa parts are easy to find. But I would at least go with a larger scooter. I've had a couple of 50cc scooters, including a bought new 2007 Metropolitan. I almost got killed on them. They are nowhere near fast enough to keep up with city traffic where I live.

@@geraldscott4302 I agree with everything you say, however, the Honda Super Cub seems to be good. Somehow they just keep them going and going. And plus the Thais like to customize them.

@@markwalters1584 I like the Honda Super Cub except for a couple of things. One is that "clutchless" transmission. I used to own an '83 "Passport" which was just a renamed Super Cub. Shifting that thing was a nightmare. Very clunky and hard to shift. A real clutch would have solved that problem. My issue with the new Super Cub (aside from the same crappy clutchless transmission) is that they do not offer it with a full length seat, and at 6' 240 I just don't fit on that tiny little seat that is way too far forward. The 2022 model is going to me matte black, and I refuse to own a matte black bike. I call them YABOBs (Yet Another Blacked Out Bike) I keep wondering when, or if, that absurd fad will ever end. I like bright paint and chrome.
