Honda EU22i Generator | Jayco Journey Outback Test | How much will it power!! | Features and review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we look at my Honda EU22i inverter generator. I primarily bought this generator to power my 2018 Jayco Journey Outback caravan.
In this video, I go over some of the features of this particular unit and explain why I chose this make and model of generator for our caravan. Most importantly I power it up and see just how much it can run on our van!
I hope you enjoyed the video and don't forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

    We have used the kzread.infoUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    I appreciate your time in making this video. I live in NZ and we seem to get more power cuts as time rolls on. Did nt know much about generator inverters until now, so off to the Honda shop I will go.I also checked the second hand market for the Honda and found they are up there with the best in depreciation. So its a great buy Thanks

    @@oliverberger5380 : Curious as well. Not only are they considered the most dependable but my small engine mechanic I use says they are the easiest to work on because parts are easiest to get. I will never own one because I can't justify the price. I am considering a WEN or a Generac. As far as big generators, I have a Miller 12,000 watt Miller Trailblazer engine driven welder with a built in inverter. Amazing machine and welds like a dream. Yes it costs $10,500 but I make money with that so I could justify that to the wife. Hard to cough up $1,200 for a 2200 watt Honda when WEN sells a 2250 watt for $442. If I was a wealthy guy it would be a Honda for sure.

    @@survivalguyfyi5718 honda generators are cheap in India cus they have a factory here and most of their production is either here or in japan... a new eu30is (2.8kw cont.) is 1000$ and 70is (5.5kw cont.) is 2500$. Brand new.. I got my eu30is used on Facebook market place for 200$. The engine was ceased. The owner thought it was dead after he did not use it for 5years And so i bought it cus it was spotless and only had 20hrs on the display. Long story shot turns out the owner had filled the gas tank to brim about 3 years ago. He ran it occasionally and the last time he shut it off he left the fuel valve open and so the fuel had leaked from the carb and the intake valve was open when the generator last stopped so the fuel filled the cylinder and passed the rings , diluted the oil and the rotten residue of the ethenol mixed petrol caused the piston to get stuck. The carb and fuel tank was in rough shape. Carb boul had black tar to top and i had to soak it in methanol for 3 days then in diesel for a week before running it through ultrasonic cleaner few times , i didn't want to buy a new carb cus in my experience the aftermarket ones run worse than the oem even if the oem is not perfect but the oem carb is expensive. After i managed to clean the carb and tank. I ran the generator and it started in 3rd pull. Made power immediately. I ran it for 2hrs with a variable load. (18000btu ac non inverter ). And it ran so good. I was so happy i went to the honda dealership and bought a whole gasket kit and fuel system parts to replace all the rotten and cracked pipes and filters in the tank. All in all i spent 200+50$ to get that generator running again and about a month of my time. It was totally worth it. I have converted it to lpg. I don't want to deal with preserving petrol and cycling them . Lpg is cheaper and burns cleaner , no fear of calendar degradation. I keep a bunch of lpg cylinders and they each run the generator for more than 12hrs. I have already ran it for more than 100hrs last year after a cyclone knocked off the tree in my yard and fell on the transformer that powers my home. I was without power for a 5 days. Generator ran non stop only stopping every 12hrs to replace the cylinder..

    @@KuntalGhosh . Wow! What a great find. I wish I had you mechanical skills. Yeah I’d love a Honda. Just something small. Between 1000 and 3500 watts. I have an Miller Trailblazer. If you aren’t familiar with those, it’s an engine driven welder that puts out 12,000 peak watts and 10,500 running watts of electricity plus 2,700 watts of clean inverter power as well. It’s an awesome stick welder and Tig welder and makes one heck of a generator as well. But it’s about 700 pounds and a little much if I’m just running a freezer and a few lights and fans. Sure would be nice to have smaller one around. I’m glad yours turned out good. Thanks for the story. I’ll have to remember what you did and keep my eyes out for one.

    This was a good overview and test. I watched this vid before buying my dual fuel EU22i in the UK a couple of years ago. These things are bullet proof. When I run it on LPG a 13kg cylinder lasts about 40 hours at around 750w average, but nowadays I mostly use petrol... in the long run it is better for the engine. Thanks for the vid mate.

    That was a brutal way to test a Gold Star Genset. To be honest figure out the wattage of all the kit you desire to run at the same time and budget for a unit that can produce the power It's easy to calc and rather than have the Honda screaming its rings off, just cycle thru what apps you need to run. With your getup I would have invested in the 3000 unit. My 2.0EU runs 99% on eco and gives me 13 hours run time per tank, yes it idols all night long lol That's just juicing up a 80lt Engel and a 400w kicker system and LED lights I purchased the Honda because it has 100% service coverage in Oz. 5 years ago the Yammy was still growing the service sector. But both brands are mint.

Naturally I expect to see the US model have 110 DC current but I'll be using the DC outlet to charge the bike's lithium batteries. I haven't had any drama's with this unit so far and service I get from Honda would appear to be superior of those from other Chinese brands. Further, Yamaha's 2400 unit is much bigger than this unit and wouldn't fit in my van and further to this, their comparative unit at the time of purchase was the 2000W, being inferior. The solar not keeping up due to trees coverage. Is it a couple of hours of generator running time to top up the van batteries via the Redarc DC30Manager. Or a lot longer? Our biggest power consumption is an 85L Evakool fridge. Cheers Anthony.

  • @XploringOz

    Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed the video. So, yes essentially the generator will definitely help keep those appliances running and charge the batteries each day for a few hours. Whether or not it will completely fill the batteries would be a question of the idle amp draw of your van, the size of your charger and the setup of your charger. You will find that some chargers slow their rate of charge significantly when reaching the 90% to help with battery longevity. If you planned on using the generator once day, every day for a few hours, then it should be enough to keep the van ticking along. Cheers, Nathan.

    @@neosamurai5374 I bought my 2200 around this time last year after they resolved the leaking fuel recall. I did some research then and decided against the model with co-minder. I just did some Google searches and honestly I can't find a lot actual failures with it, just see a lot of people trying to figure out how to disconnect or bypass the system. When typing in "honda generator cominder" one of the first things that popped up was "how to bypass", lol. It appears that all Hondas will have it soon so you'll likely have to get it. To me it seems like another safety device/point of failure that is not necessary for people who know they're supposed to run their generators in well vented areas. I just picture setting up my generator in the very corner of my porch (trying to keep it out of the weather) after a hurricane and then have it turn off from the co-minder because there's not enough ventilation. It's not like I'm going to use it inside my house or garage.... the Bluetooth function would be pretty neat.

    @mdees88

    @@neosamurai5374 I knew I read some stuff that made me not want it, I just found it and it's in the owners manual. Download the owners manual for the eu2200iTAG then read about cominder on page 24-25. It says do not use in partially enclosed areas, do not cover with wood or a tent even if away from building, do not place it next to another generator (even though they're made to be hooked together), make sure the generator exhaust is not pointing into the wind. Also there is a service life of the sensor (5-10 years I think) and a light will start blinking when it's close to needing to be swapped out by a certified Honda technician. Also there's a light that blinks when the cominder system malfunctions. So it can shut your generator off if the wind blows the exhaust by the sensor or if you're using it next to another generator or a running car, or if you set it up in a dog house, outside, to keep it out of the weather or if the cominder sensor reaches the end of its service life or malfunctions. No thanks, if you can get a non CO minder I would get it before all their generators have it....

    Best to use them electric items separately one at a time especially the kettle as they are often over 2000watts and will over load the gen set cut off switch into action. Toaster will be ok with the fridge, will need to turn the a/c off tho most likely and the hot water. Two slice toaster will most likely be 1200watts, them coffee machine use less power than a kettle 1200-1000watts but take up a tad more space, microwave could be used instead of the kettle running at around 1400watts. If you have an inverter microwave that’s even better as you can put it on 50% and only use 750watts but need to run the timer twice as long.
