Honda CX500 ignition and carburetor problem

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

My Honda CX500 would not start as you can see in the previous part in this small series regarding the carburetor. In the, part 2, I continue where i left off. Its been quite a struggle and this video will show that struggle. For you it may be informative as I go and try to find out the problem. Vintage motorcycle have carburetors that will give you problems as you put miles on the motorcycle, so learning how it works through trail and error as i have in this video will always be a great help at some point.
The funny thing is that the main reason i bought this Honda CX500 is to learn how it works without it being a complete wreck to start with. Guess I got more then i bargained for.

Exactly Jon, you do and learn with things like this. Even when you are an middle-aged man like myself. Never too old to learn!

There’s probably 1000’s of Cx’s parked idle in sheds because of these carbs, I know mine is and I’ve been though all that you’ve done, they aren’t the easiest carbs to remove and replace and I haven’t the hands of a Japanese child piano player. I’m seriously considering the Mikuni’s. Thanks for the great videos.

I've seen those "things" being cracked (very hard to see) on different video's the past few days. I'm going to inspect the h.. out of those 😅and you'll be able to do those carbs in your sleep 😄

    CHECK THE FLOAT NEDDLE

Float needles actually were never the problem (i did place new ones straight from the get go). The bowls ended up to be the biggest problems. And i found that actually riding the bike helps to settle the carbs (if that makes sense..). riding it cleans and flushes out a lot of debris and dirt. Also hitting the carb with a rubber hammer helps to seat the needle good.

    HT LEADS MILES 2 LONG

I’ve had that reply before. In the end the did not cause the issue. It was a poor connector at the back of the bike. The HT-leads are still the same and the bike runs fine. Still Thanks for the advice but long ht-leads have not been the problem. Cheers J

WHY DID YOU HEAT PLASTIC WHEN YOU CAN BEND METAL ?????

  • @DutchedShedBuilds

These are floats that dont have metal in them. There are two kinds of floats on these honda’s. You do know that right? some have little metal lips that you can bend and others only have plastic (older models). Like the ones i came across. If only they had those easy to adjust metal lips. But… they didnt and this is a video on learning by trial and error. So stop with the CAPS-LOCK 🤭
