Dutched Shed Builds is my channel in which I will show you how I work on vintage motorcycles. With the help of youtube and other social media I hope to build or modify my own bikes and get in touch with others who do the same. And maybe I will inspire someone else to get building and learn new skills and to just do it.
Beside the work I do on the bike I also work on improving my shed, making my own tools as well as working on my skills as a diy-builder, editor, filmmaker and mechanic.
I hope you enjoy my video's and you can also find me on Instagram (@dutchedshedbuilds)
If you like to support me in making my video's you can get merchandise (hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, mug) from my E-bay store: www.ebay.com/usr/dutched-shed-builds

Just went to their site to look at prices and I get a message saying no longer available in your region.......bloody Brexit!

Thanks for the video, wish you had shown how the throttle cables came off.
Agreed. Because those can be really hard to get on and off. Its good to know that underneath the airfilter there is a adjuster in the cable to get some slack (not much). Also its important to really free the carb up as much as you can before you remove the cables.
Tutorial?
@@monkitribe7826 no. But if you want to see the how-to…. Check out my channel
What pump did you use, the pumps I’m finding aren’t rated for petroleum.
I used a very simple (cheap) oilpump from a local supermarket/hardware store. There was hardly any fuel left in the tank. If you cant find a pump then use the 2nd method i showed with an aircompressor. Thats the safest way, but you will need and aircomprosser (even a small one will do)
Coils are a major source of problems on older machines and I usually always change them as a matter of course as testing them properly is not as easy as folks think!
@@johnrocker2986 coils were at my attention but just swapping out (potentially good parts) is something i wanted to avoid. The video is a while Ago and the coils themselves where not the issue and are still working fine to this day.
@@DutchedShedBuildsthe thing with coils is spark degradation over time usually caused by age but checking needs very expensive and precise equipment and cannot be tested by eye, but can throw up numerous running issues unless they are 100%
Thank you for taking the time to this and really well done. Can I ask you your advice, please? I need to do a temp job until I have the time to take the carbs off. I have decided to hot wire sensor switch socket. What would you recommend to keep the wires in place (as you did in 5:50)? Bullet connectors? I worry about their getting stuck inside the socket. Thanks
bullet connecters should work oke. Anything that will conduct electricity will work. But be aware that water will get in there, so find some way to keep the water out. You could just a small bend of copper wire (5-8cm long) and the fill the socket with some sillicone. As a temporay measure of course. Good luck with it., and thanks for watching!
Thanks for your helpful video. I bought a nice eBay '82 CX500 and rode it 200km home with fuel leaking from the left carb all the way. Didn't find out until I I stopped. Got the carbs off, cleaned them and changed the float needles. All good so set off on a 300km ride but went onto one cylinder not far from home. Limped back. Carbs off again. Float needle stuck. Cleaned and reassembled and now running great. This seems to be a rite of passage for CX500 newbies 😂
Seems like it my friend. These types of bikes need attention and love. Not a problem if you like a bit of wrenching every now and then. Glad to hear you got your bike running, you learned along the way, and thanks for watching!
Well done! Improvised but sometimes it's about keeping it running. And the wiring isn't improvised at all. BJ's merch again... ;) 👍 all these GS450-boys. ;) 🙏🤘✌️
Yep, keep ‘em running. And im dutch so if we can do it cheap.. 😊. I installed before the DGR2024 and it worked perfectly. Too bad I couldnt somehow fix the old one.

Hi, do you have any advice on upgrading the headlight? 82 gs450l here. My carb is off now. Im also confused on finding the right plugs. Seems like I have to change the caps because I can't find threaded terminal ends on the plugs.
Hi Rob, upgrading the headlight to led will require an additional led-resistor. But i used the motogadget and that takes care of that issue. Other then that you can put on any light you want. Not sure what you mean with the threaded plugs, the plugs have pins in them and you just twist them on to the sparkplug wire. The caps are usually sold as a complete unit. Just turn them straight on fresh wire. They self tap so to speak. Hope that helps. You are welcome to dm me on instagram of via my website
I can't find the intake boots to replace the ripped ones on mine where did you find them??
Hi Anthony, it was a while ago but i think i got them second hand. Cant really remember to be honest.
Do you recall what coils you used when you replaced the originals? I have a CX with a misfire and I'm pretty sure it's a coil issue. Replacement originals are nowhere to be found!
I never replaced the originals with aftermarket ones. The ones I used to test them were originals also. And in the end I never swapped the old ones as they were not the issue in this case. Dont know where you live but here in Holland they are fairly easy to come by (second hand and new)
Ok thanks for getting back to me. I’m in Canada and they’re tough to come by here. I’ll keep checking - I definitely am missing spark sometimes.
Top spul!
Thanks for sharing the show! For all of us who couldn't be there. I really share your appreciation of the building itself! And of course there are a lot of cool bikes. 👍🙏 Cool thing to do with dads. 🙂✌️
You are more than welcome! The building is really cool. The entire area is to be honest. Maybe you could go and have look yourself at some point in time!
Good luck with the repair, hopefully it works out long-term for you.
Time will tell.
Good repair! I had my carb fixed with a similar Dutch product years ago and never leaked.
Thats good news! Never thought it would work so good. Brings hope to screw-ups like me😊
Lets see if it holds up to petrol and vibration like you said. If it does then this is a great fix.
Reading all the comments i think it should be oke. But time will tell
I've seen it used to repair a leaking petrol tank on another video, so I think it will be ok in the carb. I would be tempted to remove the bare minimum to leave a fillet around the base
Oke, that is reasurring to hear about the fuel-resistance. Yeah i hope i didnt take too much away but it feels pretty solid. Although if that idle-mixture-screw gets stuck over time it might cause the repair to break. I guess i will find out
I think any 2-part Epoxy Resin, such as Araldite, would work!
I totally agree with you. I shoud have mentioned that in the video that there are plenty of different brands available. But this one just came along so often that I had to give it a go.
It was great to meet you in person. Also fantastic to see ‘Alchemy’ on KZread. Great video.
Same here!
Way too many BMWs and you walked straight past the cool red Moto Guzzi (one of the most beautiful engines of a bike ever made for customising). Other than that many thanks for showing us all the beautiful custom bikes. A bit too hipster for me I think I'll keep to the more classic bike shows but still very nice to see what people have created.
The pro-builders did most (if not all) the BMW’s. Most of which are commissioned bikes. So a big market. I skipped a lot of beautiful bikes, i just wanted to give you guys a look at the motoshow. I think you would have enjoyed yourself, the athmosphere is really chilled. And you can skip the hipster tattoo and barber things if you want 😉
It was a great show and i loved seeing you again! Your dad too!!
Think we bumped into each other whilst trying to work out the price of the hats. It wasn't until about 5 mins later i realised why i recognised you and it was from watching your videos! Great work and be great to see what kind of bike you'd build if you built one for the show!
Ah.. the £33,- bikeshed hats 😜. I remember. Thanks and im also pretty curious myself 😂🏍️
I've seen those "things" being cracked (very hard to see) on different video's the past few days. I'm going to inspect the h.. out of those 😅and you'll be able to do those carbs in your sleep 😄
Yeah, t-piece for the fuel is a strange thing. The manual does not show any o-rings, but if it works better with then that oke i guess.
on my 450, for that fuel inlet T that leaks, the previous owner of my bike slid some o-rings into the carb fuel inlets for the T to seal against and it seems to work pretty well, the T sits in there snug and doesn't go side to side at all
I have a 450e as well gives me problem with the carbs to. I have air filter box and vacuum pipe connection as well
Well done! Good to have same old parts in stock... 👍 Have a great DGR! Unfortunately I can't ride at the moment.
Cant beat a good stockpile.. sorry to hear you cant ride this year but there is always next year! Where will you be riding?
@@DutchedShedBuilds I would choose a place in west germany, so not that far away. But before planning this I have to go through other things. The classical "first things first" type... :)
Awesome you got her running again! I can't seem to get mine running in time.😢
Oh no.. 😢
Лайк тільки за три тижні зняття шпильок😅 хороша робота дякую.
That nut was already lose! I Did that and broke off the part of the case where the coolant pump bolts into my H2 engine watching this dumb video smh Use a clutch holding tool!
Shit happens mate. Sry to hear that. A clutch holding tool is the best way but sometimes you have to make due with what you have. 🙏🏻
Hey bro what size jets you got?
I know you know now. Wider wheel base. Oops, I didn't see the wheel fail. A light SHS frame 75x75 topped with a 5mm aluminium checker plate would be nice.
Thanks for sharing! You did not give up and get it solved. Never easy to undo a screwed up screw... I think the bike is worth the detailing you do like on the cooler fins. I think the text information is really well placed and helps to follow your thoughts. Enjoyed watching it. Thx! Ride save! ✌️
Thank you for the complement, there is another video in the making with the same type of setbacks… carbs that time. Glad the text helped out!
So what's the job list on this bike. Apart from what I can see from the video, which is Exhaust leak, starting problems and not running on all cylinders ?
Correct. The radiator was a bit of a setback and i hadnt expexted it. So it was radiator, sensor, carbs-rebuild, cleaning of the tank, replacing fuellines-filter, oilchange, masterbrale cylinder repair, new brakelines at the front, brakecaliper overhaul and paint, the dash, handles,…. So lots that needs/ needed to be done
@19:46 F**K IS the correct word in this situation. You have master the English language well :)
Took the time to put shitty music in yet you didnt take the time to put the torque specs in.. lame man..
Wish you would of put the torque process and ft pounds for what you were torqued down
I used a haynes manual in which all those kinds of things are stated. and i would advice you to do the same. Good luck
@@DutchedShedBuilds I give this a thumbs down video... no torque specs.. hell you have more of a plug.to.your sons lame ass music then you did any important info.. just all around lame video..
Love the channel and videos! Have a GS450 that i'm currently rebuilding. What exhaust is on yours?
To be honoust i do not know. I got them from a different purchase. But they seem to be low cost mufflers, custom pipes and exhausttape to cover it all
@@DutchedShedBuilds Thanks for the answer! :)
My condolences to you and your family! That's always hard. I finally saw that brick house builds returned the favor with the cap ... The connection between bike builders is something special, I think. Even more than between bikers. I appreciate your videos. 👍
Thank you for your kind words! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Good job!. I have my Euro to do this weekend so might give it a go. By the way..I have the same spot lights, they really suit the bike😁
Yeah they really do! Makes you a lot more visible to others. Getting the seals in was not easy, so be aware of that. But it is do-able, good luck👊
@@DutchedShedBuilds You were right , I failed trying to get the seal in and damaged it. I then took the fork out completely. Had a spare seal and found on google the 'insulation tape' method. Wrapped enough around the stanchion to cover half the seal and it seated instantly with one thrust of the stanchion! Am sure that would probably work with the forks attached ... thanks for the great site
I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Prayers for you and your family.
Thank you🙏🏻
Sorry to hear about your mom. Lost my mother April 2nd. Like the new exhaust on your gl1100

Sorry about the engine, will you continue the build? Asking because I was having the same problems and have had trouble finding parts and tips until your videos.
Yes i will! Its on my list for the spring! Is there anything in particular you need help with?
