Balance is the key when riding any motorcycle. And we’re not talking about just balancing on two wheels: We’re talking about the balance between size, weight, power and handling that makes some bikes great-like the new Honda CRF300L. Based on our previous CRF250L, for 2021, it gets a larger engine with more torque and a whole host of chassis and suspension refinements. What you end up with is one of the best-balanced bikes ever for on- and off-road use. Perfect for weekend trail rides, it’s also among the best choices ever for commuting or urban transportation. And if you’re looking for a version with a windscreen and Dakar-inspired bodywork for a little more weather protection, make sure you check out our new CRF300L Rally.
Hello my name is Andrew, My family and I love powersports. Just something about the feel of freedom and power you get from a bike or ATV. On this channel you will find content for the Honda 300L as well as our journey we take together in the world of power sports.

Hello. I’m a Honda dealership mechanic in East Tennessee. I just watched this video and wanted to comment my experience. I actually had the chance to assemble a 300L and a cbr300 on the same day last month at work. I remember doing them both at the same time and doing the test ride around our dealership at work back to back. I remember telling my coworkers that the 300L felt so much better just riding it around the lot at work after riding the cbr300. I was a motocross rider 20 years ago amd my last bike was a CBR600r about 10 years ago. The 300L just “felt good”. Plus the model I assembled had ABS. Granted at work a test ride is basically just a few trips around the lot and burnishing the brakes, the fit of the bike made me think twice about it. And as of the summer 21, we have only gotten 2 of the 300L in stock and they sold fast. I love the user display on the bars and the height of the bike. It feels more like a dirt bike to me than a street bike. I would recommend going and giving one a test ride!

I hear ya on the 40 yrs! I’m almost 64 and...not to boast...walked in to Honda in NanImo BC, slapped down some money and two days later picked up my CRF300L with a skid plate and rear rack put on! I was looking for the Yam KT250 (first bike 1973 Yam 175 Enduro) but nada, nowhere! Glad I moved over to the Honda. Taking getting used to seat height mainly just from being off-bike for so long and a tad anxious about what the heck did I just do! Lol My 73/175 had a jake brake which was awesome. This one has a similar ‘engine brake’ that kicks in whenever letting throttle go. Weird when you want to coast down a slight slope so be ready for that. Now I just use ‘Mexican Overdrive’ when coasting! Have only put 10Km on it getting it home but I am thrilled with the thought of hitting the trails! Oh, mine is the red colour option!🤣👨🏻‍🦳

Absolutely fantastic review! The quality and entertainment value of your review is second to none. As a very happy teen who grew up with a Honda 125 cc enduro in the late 70's, I could never shake that unmistakable feeling of freedom along with all of the great memories, that my little Honda facilitated. After a significant riding hiatus, I am finally looking at resurrecting that wonderful 2 wheel riding experience & picking up my first motorcycle in over 40 years. More specifically, I have my eye on an adventure bike, likely a 2023 Honda Transalp 750, pending its availability. To add to the enjoyment & riding experience, I also want my 20 year old son, who has never owned or operated a motorcycle, to join me, mostly on off road & single track riding. For a first or beginner bike, it seems the Honda CRF300L along with some riding lessons, is just about the perfect place to start.

Great work on the video! I am a relatively new rider. I had been looking at the dual sport world and as you know the market has been absolutely crazy. Any used bikes that are for sale are going for near new prices. I had been debating between a used KLX250, Yamaha XT250, or KLX230. I then saw the release of the CRF300L back in January and immediately said that would be the perfect bike for me. So I put a deposit down and waited and waited and waited. It got to the point that I almost took the money back and went the expensive used route. But finally after 4 months delays my bike came in. I agree with all of your review. It’s a great bike that isn’t perfect in one thing but it’s truly a blank canvas bike that you tweak to what suits you best in your type of riding. Thanks again.

I’ve recently done a lot of off-road training on my Africa Twin, which was fantastic, but of course it’s tall and heavy and takes two to lift upright when it falls awkwardly. I was in the same boat I agonized but finally went for KTM690...a LOT more money but so incredible! I just did not want to end up bored...I wanted to ride with local off-road clubs and fit in....I don't recall seeing any of these in 250s or 300s so far...no KLRs d rarely even DRZ...Maybe because there is typically high speed highway sections getting there and then many miles of serious "truck trails"/fire roads ....something else that does not work well is the huge displacement adventure bikes....basically it leaves 450 to 890 bikes with good power and handling Seen a number of other 690 enduros, lately more and more 700 Teneres and 890ktms and typically a couple bikes such as the KTM EXC (350-500) or CRF450RL ...those bike haul butt on the rough dirt sections but they are not much fun at all on highway sections! The 700s and 890s are wonderful on the highway and apparently other than being a bit more tiring they handle the off-road really well indeed! I am constantly amazed because they are like 100llbs more than my 690....the 690 is sort of right in between the 450/500 singles and the 700-890 twins...mainly just lacks a windshield to be nice on the highway....good luck though

Oh and the economy bikes that I have seen several do quite well with us believe it or not is the venerable old XR650L...Always seems to be older ones even though brand new are identical to 20 years old....Those old bikes have the power and are still light enough to handle decently with good tires...and a good rider though seat height is up there a ways! I hear they are like bullet proof too...I actually bought an old one but then I got the KTM so I quit riding it...Thing'll do almost 100mph! I never have taken it on a run with the club but I bought some new knobbies for the old girl (2005 with 1600 original miles!) so I do plan on at least trying it once ....I would try a 300 too...IF it had suspension

Fantastic review. I agree with you 100% I've had my 300 long enough for the rear tire to basically be almost bald. In a couple of days I'm installing the Motoz Ralls on the rear and a Pirelli MT21 Rally on the front. It'll be a pretty serious tire upgrade. Both are 10-20/80-90% road/offroad. I had a KTM 690 Enduro R which I sold in favor of the CRF300L and I don't regret it. The 690 was 50 lbs heavier and had way more power than I needed for off road riding. I also have a KTM 390 Adventure for those days I'll mostly be on road but still want the option to explore any dirt road I come across. I was one of the lucky ones who found my 300 a day or two after I started looking. Prefect timing. Thanks for sharing. Subbed.

My question to you would be, how big of a deal would it be having a smaller tank compared to Rally. I love the look of this bike but bigger tank on the 300 Rally appeals as well. Best review I've seen so far of this bike--thank you for the time and effort it must have taken to put this together, super helpful. I keep stopping by the nearest Honda dealer, and they never have one out to look at--all of them that come in are pre-sold, so as soon as they dealer puts them together and gets them prepped, the buyers swoop in and get their bikes (I would, too!) before they can hit the floor. One of these days it will get back to normal, but for now, you just have to go with it and be patient.

Because it is taking me so long to save up for the kind of bike I want, if is allowing me more and more time for research. Every time I see a review of a new bike I might like, I go down the rabbit hole of all the reviews and articles on that bike. However, I keep coming back to the 300L. I a bit over 50 and go back and forth between XCs and dual sports and have touble deciding if I want to have one for just off-road or one to go here and there and also off-road. The info and personal experience you share really helps me lean in the dual-sport direction. Affordability, trail access, running around town with fun and awesome fuel efficiency... just seems a smarter choice. Anyway, I just keep babbling on here.... so, I really appreciate your videos. Thanks! And keep on rollin'!

Great video, I was fortunate to have one get traded in still under warranty and highway miles on it , at local dealer. Great bike your video is really spot on, about the rear shock, being an older rider 60 , I have found this soft shock actually useable when ridden with an effort to incorporate the riding position in the tougher terrain as if on exercise equipment, sounds crazy but it works for me and I feel great. Thanks again

308lbs!?!?!?!??? Holy crap. How is it even that heavy. Is it a steel engine? If you think that's maneuverable you should take a ride on my KTM xcf 350 which is only 222 lbs and extremely fast, lol

  • @cjohn8440

    @cjohn8440

    2 жыл бұрын

Prob doesn’t matter to much but the 350 is about 238 dry (at least the 2020. The 2018 is listed at 229 dry), which is a little trickery that ktm does with weights, so add another 15 for liquids. Again I’m sure it rips compared to the crf300. I sure hope your getting double the fun and performance because your going to be paying more than double the cost of the crf tho. Both prob great bikes, but likely slightly different audience for each one. BTW I own a 300 rally which is even heavier lol

@@cjohn8440 mine is a 2017 mint. I have it geared low for woods riding, 13/52 and it still hits 80 mph. You can wheelie it practically in any gear easily, insane torque. Just have to be careful riding it cuz it could kill you really quick haha

  • @MotorcyclesOffroad

Yeah all those bikes lie about their weight. It can be 238lbs but then add gas +16, add coolant +8, add oil and brake fluid +8 now you are already at the 270lb make. The exhaust on the 300L weighs like 18 lbs alone, my battery swap saved me another 5, footpegs another 2. What are we really talking about here? its not even a difference of 10% in total weight comparing the bikes. Me personally I dont feel weight is the most important thing with a bike. I will gladly take a bike with more weight to not have to chance the oil as often lmao.

Just fitted YSS suspension front and rear ,Renthal bars and Acerbis hand guards and plastic skid plate .. I’m 210 pounds so the suspension needed upgrading from stock. Spend a few quid and you turn a great bike into a brilliant one Had a F850 GS and it was beyond my skill set and with my old knees and bad hip it was too heavy for me. The 300l is just a great bike to get started off-roading and a great bike for every day use and commuting . It’s turned me into a 52 year old hooligan . Love it. All the best from the UK . 😁🇬🇧🏍

I used to ride as a kid started with a Honda 50cc and worked my way up to a Honda CRF150L (I think) I rode for close to 9 years and when I went to college we had to sell my bike. Now here I am 23, graduating, looking to buy another bike, because I need something to scratch that adventure and outdoors exploring itch. This seems like one of my best options for the price and I loved how detailed and put together the video was. It was fun and interesting for me to watch and I'll probably watch this again in the future because it's just a good video. 0 complaints will watch again thank you for posting and giving me a bit of knowledge!

I appreciate the review. I have been looking for a dual sport for a while. Ive had lots of used bikes but ive been looking for something faster, something I dont worry about getting rear ended on the highway doing 30 under the limit. I don't like buying new, I never have. My cars, trucks, vans etc are all used and I love them, something just doesnt feel right about dishing out so much money. That being said after humming about it and watching almost every review of this thing on youtube, I think it is exactly what I am looking for. I also totally hear you on reliability. My dirtbike is still a 1986 suzuki sp250. That thing takes so much abuse, has so many km's on it and its perfect for what I do. Plenty of power. And the best part, it still starts on the first kick every time. I pull it out of the garage after its long sleep through a winter in the rockies and it fires up on the first kick every single time. Now if only I could get it to stop blowing the front tire. Hit a massive pothole, flat tire. Ram it into a tree across the trail, flat tire. I think thats mostly on me though.

Had mine here in Aus for a couple of months. Also had to wait on a list but it was well worth it. Almost a perfect example of what 'dual sport' means in a practical sense. Easy around town, goes amazingly well off road, does highway speeds, is a good looker, has a great suspension (if you're not a Crusty Demon), and if going by my experience of previous Hondas, should be reliable as ever. I own a number of bikes and this is no doubt my favourite.

I put my deposit down for my 300L in March, then planned a 16 day Colorado adventure to break it in. Booked the time off work for June, and waited on the arrival of my new steed. 3 days before my departure date, I finally picked up the bike and breathed a sigh of relief! I’ve now logged about 5k miles, many of which were rough off-road miles, and this bike, with a few minor mods and farkles, has proven to be my unicorn bike, or near as I can get!
